There was exactly one person who called him that so Robert knew it was Christie before he’d opened the door - something he did caught between amusement and bemusement, because yeah, he’d told her he’d bring her out someday and that she could come over, but he hadn’t expected her to take him up on that so soon, this late, with stuff, and that slightly out of breath look that told him pretty clearly that she’d not only snuck out but was excited about it.
Which, okay, fair. He could respect that. Besides, all teenagers needed room to explore their rebellion. He wouldn’t say no.
Just, you know, he could still give her a Look before letting her in. He stood aside and Betsy immediately started dancing around Christie’s feet in excitement.
“Hey kid”, he said, and went into the kitchen to fetch his cell phone, which he’d left on the table. “Looks like someone’s itching for some action.”
He couldn’t blame her for that, either. He shot her a smile.
“You sneak out, or what?”
⚜ ᴄʜʀɪsᴛɪᴇ;; – A smile graced her face as she was soon greeted with the familiar face and tone that came from only Robert. Her eyes only dropping when the dopiest and most adorable bull terrier came out and started kneading her paws into Christie’s legs. Naturally, she knelt down, scratching behind Betsy’s ears with both hands, a cheerful laugh escaped her as she just melted into her touch.
‘ Hi, Betsy, ‘ she chimed, ‘ who’s a good girl? You are! ‘
With that, she stood up, pup still trying to get her attention, while hers was focused on Robert. She was more ready than ever to be honest. Thing was, she wasn’t sure if she came at the right time-- Even if Robert seemed to be a bit ready himself.
‘ Yeah, been waiting all week for this. ‘ She nodded. ‘ And yes, I did sneak out of the house. You know how my dad would get if I told him we were doing this. ‘
