&Â marcos !
â Itâs fine. â She didnât give him the whole âfeeling sorry forâ treatment, which was what he didnât want.  â Exactly, weâre a really good team and everyone looks after each other. â Back when he had found the Cartel, he hadnât dared dream of anything better than that, but then the mutants reached out to him and he found people that were better than even his biological family. He is not sure what to say when she gives him an answer, but he knows that he probably shouldnât pity her because he wouldnât want that himself. Unfortunately, it was normal for mutants to be by themselves, he had been that for a while too.  â Youâre not alone anymore, you can stay with the underground for as long as you like. If you need anything, even someone to talk to, itâs there. âÂ
this was not the time to feel sorry for each other and drown themselves in pity so she wasnât going to do that with him and she was glad he wasnât doing it to her. jill expected an offer like that sooner or later but ... she still didnât know just how to respond. all she does at first is nod. â yeah, sure. thanks, i guess. iâll think about it. i donât know if iâm gonna stay, if iâm honest with you. iâm not good with all that group shit and ... getting attached to people. â
lilli: you don't have to ask twice
lilli: ... you're going to have to be more specific, babe
sav: idc just choose one
sav: all of them will work
&Â marcos !
Her smart remark earned her a smirk, a genuine sign of amusement from his part. The walk to their destination is not much more than a ten minutes trek. Marcos canât help but take a once over at the mutants that are left as they exit the building. He had just learned to not think about what ifs, but it was hard not to feel that all of their lives rest in his hand.Â
â Back at headquarters⊠yeah. The people there have become my family. â Itâs nice that sheâs making conversation, it makes him less tense and it fills the quiet space between them. Not that he felt awkward with her, it was just the whole âdonât know each other that wellâ kind of silences. Because he felt that he should at least contribute now that she was starting the conversation, he elaborates on what he had already said. â And my biological family⊠theyâre in Colombia. Itâs a long time ago, but they didnât accept my mutant gene. â He looks over at her, giving her a look that tells her she doesnât need to feel sorry for him. It happens to a lot of mutants, and it was years ago now.Â
â How about you? Youâve been by yourself for a long time? â
listening attentively, she nods every now and then to make sure he knows that sheâs listening. â right. colombia. you mentioned that earlier. â a brief pause. jill clears her throat. â shit, man. that sucks, iâm sorry. but ... at least you got a new family now. one thatâll actually look out for you. â in her opinion, families that you found yourself were usually better than the ones you were born in. not that she had too many problems with her own family but ... things could be better. she should have expected him to ask as well but the question caught her off guard. â um ... yeah. i keep to myself. i guess i was better off alone. â after an abusive relationship thatâs not hard to think. â itâs been a while, honestly. i got around a lot. helped a bunch of people, whether they knew or not. but yeah, iâve been my myself for a long time. â
& marcos !
â Thatâs smart words to live by. â Another way of saying that she has a good point.
Technically he was in charge, but the word felt wrong. Even at headquarters, neither John or Lorna were called the âbossâ, because the X-MEN seemed to have given the mission to more than just one person. They were all responsible of keeping their people safe.  â Sure. â He says finally in a careless manner. Now that she called him âboss manâ he could tell that she wasnât that serious about it.
â Nothing anymore. â She keeps being ahead of him, and he decides not to keep rambling explanations, and instead just do.  â Weâre going out and up the road, thereâs a high ground just before a clearing. Iâm thinking we can see whatâs going on from up there. â He waits for a second, then starts walking when he thinks that she got it. He is quickly learning that with her, there is no need to wait.Â
â well, iâm smart. â she replies, suddenly as cocky as ever. jill could see where he was going with his plan and at least it was something to do so she wouldnât say no to it & tag along instead. when he finally seemed to have caught on to how she rolls, she canât help a smile. watching him walk away at first, sheâs soon to follow him to their destination to make sure everyone would arrive safely where they were supposed to be.
while she was usually ahead of most things, always thinking four steps ahead and not wasting any time - she canât stand the silence. â so ... you got your family among these people ? â
&Â marcos !
Thatâs not exactly the response he had thought he would get, but perhaps the one that he didnât know he needed. She sounded as if she was speaking from experience, which made him wonder just how much she had fought on her own before ending up with a group of mutants.  " Weâre waiting. Do you always just push forward like this? â  He furrows his brows at her, but he canât quite figure out what else he wants to say to her reaction about his âwhat ifâ.
â Iâm thanking you to let you know Iâm not taking you or your powers for granted. â  He raises a brow at her this time.  â Donât call me boss, Marcos is just fine. I want to check out how far the other van is and to see if there are any government people still around. The last thing we want is for them to follow us back to HQ. â
there was a lot going on that he didnât know about. so much sheâs been through. so much theyâve all been through, probably. you never entirely know what another person comes from, huh? â thereâs no point in dwelling on the past. itâs over. we canât change it. but we still have some power over the future. â wow, look at that. he made her get all poetic.
another nod then. it was good to be appreciated but she doesnât wanna be put on a throne for it. â well but youâre the boss man, right ? â she wasnât taking the nickname serious. it was just a habit of hers. â well ... then what are we waiting for ? â
&Â marcos !
Marcos nods at her answer, hoping she really meant it. Everyone wanted to get away as soon as possible, it was hard to let some go and leave others to stay in an uncertain hideout.  " Yeah⊠â  She is right that there is a lot to deal with, but itâs not that good of an excuse to be rude. He is still learning what it means to be in charge and responsible on missions.
â What youâve done for us, healing everyone, I appreciate it a lot. Iâm not sure how many would have survived if we didnât have you with us. â Without John or Lorna, Marcos could tell he still had a lot to learn about planning these things. Although no one can foresee an attack like the one pulled on them, there should be precautions for avoiding it.Â
he seemed to be genuinely sorry so there was no reason for her to stay mad at him. it hadnât really been a fight either. so yes, she really meant her words. a huff then followed, she shakes her head. â donât do that. donât let your mind go there. all the what ifâs ... thatâs stupid. you should concentrate and what to do next. â
green eyes find his, lips pressed into a thin line for a moment. â and donât go thanking me either. it shouldnât be something you have to thank me for. so ... donât. just know itâs what i do and you can count on me. iâm on your side, boss. so ... whatâs the next step ? â

@patchofstars ( jill )Â story continued.
They had made it, a van from the Underground was pulling up and the Sentinel Services seemed to have lost their whereabouts. He had already sent a large majority of their group towards the vehicles, but they wouldnât all be able to take the first van. Marcos came inside again following a couple of mutants who hadnât been able to fit in the vehicle. There was no telling how long it would take for the next one to arrive: minutes or hours.
His eyes crossed the mutant he had snapped at earlier, and seeing her brought guilt to his chest. She hadnât deserved to be victim to his temperament. He needed someone to accompany him in finding out the situation of the second van, and in the process, maybe he could apologize. â Theyâre taking off now, you good to stay until the next pickup? â He had to ease in to talking to her again since he hadnât exactly been that nice before. â I wanna apologize for earlier, I snapped. â
SHEâD KEPT MOSTLY TO HERSELF. especially after getting snapped at and having to use all her strength not to snap back. she had used the time to get some rest. on the ground with her back against a wall and arms crossed over her chest, eyes closed. until it was time to gather up. she had been made aware by one of the kids she had helped. it was good to see she was up and well. waiting patiently for her turn to be sorted in as if they were about to get shipped off, the blonde was quiet. she would have left on her own already if it hadnât meant endangering everyone there & more.
getting approached again surprised her but she wouldnât be a bitch about it ( even though she sometimes does have a tendency to hold grudges. ) a nod follows his question, not looking at him yet but instead watching the first van leave. â yeah, iâm good. â jill then finally brings herself to look at him, tired but otherwise indifferent. a shrug. â itâs fine. you got a lot of shit going here so ... youâre okay. â
waiting for a reply then realizing itâs been your turn for like eight years.
They looked like the sort of girls who started trouble just so they got the chance to stick up for each other.

everybody knows children hear and see almost anything - especially things they arenât supposed to. and jamie is known for not having a filter most of the time. whatever pops into her mind most likely leaves her lips mere moments later. uncaring of what âthe adultsâ may think. and now being stuck on a puzzle, sheâs found herself repeating a word sheâs heard a lot of people say while they seemed to be frustrated or upset so she felt it would fit.
