Over the past couple of days Rayne was busy with Medic duty, looking over Wix and her jaw and staying out of Becks view. Today on the other hand Beck was away trying to help Ehrie so she took the time that he was away to walk through the thick snow that blanketed the camp. She was always found of the quietness that the snow brought about it was a relaxing sound and it also reminded her of the rare times in Ireland where her parents would let her go out and sled in it. As she walked she caught sight of Seven sitting over by the frozen lake and began to walk to him âhelloâ she said once he saw her
@svn-vii
Seven only noticed Ray after she gently placed her hand on his shoulder. He jumped slightly, initatally thinking it was a zombie but was quickly calmed by her gentle gaze. He sat on the ground, leaving an indent in the frosten leaves, gazing out at the frozen lake. It brought back both old memories and new; skating with Andrew and swimming with Rayne.Â
If only there were some ice skates laying around somewhere so maybe he could try it again. He seemed to have a knack for it, but could never compete since he couldnât hear the music
He smiled, hand reached up to comb through his matted hair.Â
âI guess no swimming today, huh?âÂ
Rayne looked out over the frozen lake with a fond smile on her face. âyea I guess notâ she said taking a seat next to him in the snow covered leafs, she pulled her jacket tighter around her as the wind gently flew the freshly fallen snow at them. âHow are youâ she asked him turning her head to look him over. It had been a few weeks since she saw him and wanted to make sure he was still in one piece.
âItâs been tough, I guess.â
Heâs eyes moved from her lips to gaze at the snow surrounding them. It wasnât the cold that was the problem, it was the memories it brought with it. Memories of his old family and the winter he has spent together, Memories of the snowy evening when he lost he eyesight and memories of the first winter that no one visited him.
âThe snow brings back a lot of bad memories for me.â
Rayne smiled sadly looking at him âI am sorry honeyâ she said ad she reached for his hand. She took it into hers and gave it a small squeeze. âwould you like to talk about it?â she asked him knowing that sometimes talking helpped
He lifted her hand and gently placed a kiss on it. Seven leant his head down and rested it on her shoulder. Despite knowing it was a kind of role reversal he sought comfort in this brief moment of silence. Half of him wanted to just stay like this but the other half wanted to just slaughter some zombies.
Deep breathes, Jonathan he said to himself.
âYeah I would like to talk.â
Rayne took her arm and wrapped it around his shoulders pulling him a bit closer to her when he laid his head on her shoulder. Her other hand continued to hold his rubbing small circles on it with her thumb. âwhere do you Wanna start?â she asked him as she looked down at hin
âI guess, with my eye.â
He reaches his hand up hesitantly to touch his eye, to run his fingers along the deep scar. Seven sighed, unsure whether opening up to Ray would be a good idea, but willing to take a shot.
âIt was a snowy afternoon like this one, sometime in february. I was walking home bymyself. That day Iâd had a fight with my best friend, Andrew, which is why I was by myself.â
All of a sudden Sevens hands began shaking slightly, vivid memories pouring back all at once. He remembered being shoved to the floor and the cold steel of the blade as it was held against his neck. All of the occurred in silence.
âI was jumped, by the highschool bullies. They always made fun of my deafness, not to mention that I recently came out as bisexual. I couldnât hear them coming but they shoved me to the floor and brought out a knife.â
A tear welled up a his eye and he quickly reached up to wipe it away before continuing.
âIt started as fun and games, just teasing. But then the leader decided to slice my eye open, slashed half my face. I think I intended to do more but the overwhelming sight of blood changed his mind.â
Seven was silent for a moment.
âI should have died back there, but Andrew found me passed out in a pool of my own blood. He called an ambulance, and I just about survived. But nothing ever happened to the bullies, after all who would believe a gay, half blind, deaf teenager?â
Rayne was quite as she listened to him talk about what happened to him in his past. A small frown was etched onto her face when she heard that nothing happened to the bullies who hurt him.â nothing may of happened then but Iâm sure karma go to them in the end.â She spoke as she rubbed his back, âyou didnât deserve that to happen to you Seven nobody does, and I am so incredibly sorry that this did happenâ she said.
âThanks Ray.â
He smiled weakly at her, his eyes misted over with memories of the past. She understood him, like Andrew did. It felt nice to have someone listen to you, once in a while. Rather than treat you like a convict. That was one good thing that came out of the apocalypse, getting out of that prison. Despite however painful the apocalypse was, it was his chance at a fresh start and at redemption.
âAt least you trust me.â He murmured pleasantly.
Rayne smiled softly at him keeping him in her arms knowing that he needed the comfort âyour welcome sevenâ she whispered placing a small kiss on his head â Iâll always trust you no matter what happened in your pastâ
âSeriously?â
A smile plays on his lips as he glances up at her. Tentatively he reaches a hand up to brush flecks of snow off her cheek.
âI think youâre the only one at this camp who does trust me, it means a lot Ray.â
He laughs for a moment. How even though he felt so safe, how nobody knew him, he was still treated like an outsider a lot of the time. But hey, at least it was better than prison.
âyes seriouslyâ She said with a wide smile on her face. She watched him closely with her cheeks red from both the cold and smiling as he reached up to brush snow from her cheek. âthat canât be true. Iâm sure someone else trust you here you just donât know it yet. I think they trust you more then they trusted Beckâ
He laughed then reached his hand up to brush strands of his hair out of his eyes.
âIf only that were true.â
Sevenâs eyes glossed over for a second as he remembered how Andrew treated him after he was put in prison, he never even looked at him after that. Despite the fact it was a set up.
âDonât forget Ray, I was a convict. And some people just donât let those things go, even in the apocalypse.ââ
He sighed, energy slightly drained from all the focus he had been using on lip reading. If only he could use sign language with someone. Then again, if it meant that he could communicate with Rayne he didnât mind.
Rayne smiled softly at him â the good thing is seven is your no longer a convict. I think the apocalypse helped out in that departmentâ she said softly as she cast her eyes from him to the snow then back again â now onto a subject changeâ she said with a small laugh
"Well then Ray."
He smiled and leant over to softly place a kiss on her cheek. Seven could tell that this subject was uncomfortable for her, and he didn't mind changing it. Although inside it was a part of his history that he would always have to accept, and always have to live with the consequences of. Maybe no one would ever believe that he was innocent, maybe he would die without anyone knowing. But that just the way the world works.
"What do you want to talk about?"
