“Of course, of course. I’m sorry, I just -- I recognize you.” Sersi had seen his face on the news. He was an actual god; unlike the Eternals who were regarded as them. From what she knew about Thor, he was younger than she was. That meant little in the grand scheme of things. “I’m Sersi.”

Jake nodded along at her explanation, genuinely just intrigued that she’d managed to do something like that. And especially intrigued that she’d done it right in front of him like it was nothing. “Well it’s a neat trick. Most people would kill to be able to make money appear from rocks like that. Have you always been able to do it?”

“Since the moment I was created.” Not born. Created. The Eternals were merely more than machines powered again and again by the Celestials to enact their will across the galaxy. “All Eternals have abilities: we’re either thinkers or fighters. I’m the former.”

Max shook his head, eyes glancing to the floor. “No. I don’t.” Perhaps at one time in his life he had, even if he would have denied it. But that was long ago, and things were different now. “I am a leader, not a god. I’ve found that gods are often unforgiving, and neglectful. That is not what I want to be.”

“Even gods die. I didn’t realize that for a long time.” Were the Celestial’s not gods to the Eternals? They served in their name, carried on their mission. But Tiamut was gone. Sersi had helped to kill him. Her mind still didn’t fully know how to process that. “But you, you’ve made yourself more than death.” Sersi had experienced it again and again as the mortals she watched over died with age or from war and disease. It wasn’t until they had lost Ajak and Gilgamesh that she had so sharply felt its sting. “I suppose what I’m saying is -- well, I’m not totally sure what I’m saying. This is all a lot to take in.” And that was in addition to her recent abduction.

“Oh my days, that’s just brilliant.” Steven beamed, his head shaking as he tried to wrap his brain around the fact that he was speaking to an actual Eternal. “Is it true that Wendy Darling from Peter Pan was based on you? Gosh, I just have so many questions. The stuff that you guys accomplished with mankind is just so fascinating. I can’t even imagine existing for so long and getting to see Jomon period Japan and Babylon and…” Trailing off, Steven realized then that she’d asked for his name and happily held his hand out. “Sorry, I’m a bit of a history buff. Ancient Egyptian history tends to be my favorite. I just can’t believe I’m actually speaking to you right now. I’m probably embarrassing myself. My name is Steven, Steven Grant.”

There was something about him that made Sersi laugh. Not at him of course, but from joy. It felt like it had been too long. “Sprite was the template for Tinkerbell,” she divulged. “And Ikaris was Peter Pan.” Even now, a year later, the name of her husband was momentarily stuck in her throat. It still hurt to remember him, despite his betrayal. “You do seem to know what you’re talking about. That’s refreshing. If you like Egyptian history, I’ll have to connect you with Makkari. They did love her likeness back in the day.” There were hieroglyphs featuring her proud profile and dark eyes. “You’re absolutely fine. It’s lovely to meet you, Steven.” Sersi took his hand and quickly shook it. “Can I buy you a coffee so we can keep the conversation going?”

“You were alive for that, huh.” Bucky pointed out as a statement rather than a question. He’d heard of the Eternals by now, and it was still hard to process everything going on there. After H.Y.D.R.A. kept him alive all these years, he felt like he was more than ready to pass on. He couldn’t imagine living for a literal eternity. “It’s just a statue, that’s probably why. The shield felt a little insensitive considering all the grief they gave Sam before he took on the Captain America mantle, but here we are. It all worked out, I guess.”

“I’ve been alive for many things, both good and bad.” It was usually a mix. For every time Sersi wanted to despair about the state of humanity there were moments of light that endeared her to them. It had been a long time since Sersi had vowed to never stop fighting for them. “Well, yes, but it’s also history. History is so important, you see, because of how it speaks through time to us.” She could go on and on about the importance of artifacts and relics, but she bit her tongue instead. “Grief? I’m sorry to hear that. He seems like a wonderful man. We’ve haven’t met yet, though.”

“How so? No offense, but you don’t look that old to me.” It was meant to be a compliment, but it came out a little weird and Cassie’s face flushed as she just powered through the conversation. “Only about a week or so to draft the plans, and then another week to build it.”

“Looks can be deceiving, can’t they?” Sersi chuckled softly. “I’m seven thousand years old, give or take. The years have a way of being both short and long. It’s hard to keep track sometimes.” The Eternal chose to not comment on the redness in the girls cheeks. She was sweet, in an endearing sort of way. “That fast? You must be very smart then. I’m sorry, what was your name?”

“Amazing Baby.” Rachel said proudly as the Warwolf perked up at his name and brushed against her leg. “I don’t think there’s really many of them around, honestly. Most people aren’t as cheerful as you about him, though.”

“I’ve been alive a long time,” Sersi explained. “So it’s always a treat to meet someone new or experience something for the first time. It makes the Amazing Baby’s of the world all the more special.”

“What is it this time?” Druig asked her with a smile, stopping himself from rolling his eyes. Sersi was endearing when she got like this, even if it did interrupt their walk more times than seemed necessary.

“It’s -- well, look.” Sersi moved closer to Druig to show him her phone screen. They had never been the closest, but after he had brained Sprite with that rock to save her, the two had gotten closer. Sersi pinched the image to make it bigger. “Amazing, isn’t it?”

“I believe I’d remember it if so. I have quite a good memory.” Sersi paused, nose scrunching. “But, I suppose it does look familiar. Hm.”

It’s just my physics project but hey, if it brings you joy then maybe I did my job.” Cassie grinned down to her makeshift science project, which was her last ditch attempt to come up with something passable that she could turn in. Most of her time recently was being spent in the Pym Labs bothering hanging out with Hank and Janet rather than doing her actual school work.

“It looks excellent. I love to see what they’re teaching in schools now a days. It’s certainly different than it used to be.” Sersi had sat in small huts with children drawing in the dirt. They had moved one day to chalkboards and from there tablets. She tried to remain actively involved in education however she could. The Eternals were the past, but the children were the future. “Did it take you long?”

The switch was instant, Marc clearly not having the mental capacity to push back on Steven’s excitement as the brit grinned at her. “Wait a bloody minute, you’re Sersi! One of the Eternals! I’ve got to say, its an honor. An honor doesn’t even properly describe it, really..”

“I’m Sersi, yes.” The Eternal blinked in surprise as she smiled. It had been a long time since someone had been so excited to see an Eternal, and that was back in the days when they had been revered as gods. “I -- wow. It’s nice to meet you, truly. What’s your name? I don’t think we’ve been acquainted.”

Jake watched with curiosity as the woman bent down to pick up some rocks. He was about to tell her not to take them into his cab when suddenly they shifted into coins, and his mouth nearly fell open. “How the hell did you just do that?”

Dark eyes glanced down at the transfigured coins and then back to the driver. She had been more open about her abilities ever since Tiamut and Arishem, but it still felt odd when people noticed. It had been centuries since their gifts had been freely shared. “Oh, it’s a rather funny story. Or, er, it’s really not. I suppose it depends on who you talk to. I can transfigure objects -- inanimate, mostly. Just a little trick.”

“His name is Ted, actually.” Jack smiled warmly as he glanced over to his large friend, who was towering over the both of them. They hadn’t expected to run into anyone in this part of the park this late at night, but he was just thankful that this lady didn’t seem to be another monster hunter. “I promise he’s not as mean as he looks.” Ted growled lowly and nudged him, and he chuckled. “He says he is. But don’t believe him.”

A warm smile crossed Sersi’s face as she pulled her jacket tighter across her chest. “I don’t think that he looks mean at all. I’ve certainly seen meaner.” She extended a hand towards the man. “My name is Sersi. It’s nice to meet you both.”
