Coffee Notes
svsungmin:
〈 @svsoojung 〉
it can get boring— sitting behind a counter, waiting for something to do between the waves customers inevitably seem to come in. sitting still had never been sungmin’s forte. it just wasn’t in his wheelhouse ( or, hell, even within a fifty km radius ). sitting and waiting was far and away his least favorite part of the job, but alas, he’d endure.
at least the waiting made the next customer that much more welcome. they gave him something to do, broke up the monotony of aimless scribbling on napkins and cleaning the already clean workspace for the third time in two hours. but even if he could whip out drinks in two minutes flat, he’d be lying if he said he didn’t occasionally take his time making the concoctions.
like now.
rag slung haphazardly over his shoulder, his movements are fluid and practiced, keeping a steady rhythm as he works his way down the counter. he almost calls out the order, glancing up to find the girl. she’s quiet, almost withdrawn. the hat on her head shields her from view— or others from her view? just like that he’s grabbing another napkin and fishing the pen from his apron. ‘ i like your hat. it suits you, ’ he scribbles down, tucking the paper twixt the cup and saucer.
❝ soojung! ❞ order up.
her lunch break had only begun and she was already beginning to count the minutes before it was to end. the allotted amount certainly not enough time to do much of anything so soojung finds herself at the same coffee join that she was at last week, -- there’s a sort of lull to the atmosphere that did wonders to relax the muscles that had been tensed up during practice. her order remains the same and so does her spot as if she finds comfort in the norm.
her name is called, whipping her attention away from the row of succulents that decorated the front counter (she always did have a thing for nature). she pretends not to notice the sliver of white that’s peeking out from underneath her drink and offers a slight crease of her nose and an inaudible ‘thank you’ instead. three decent sized steps and she’s already back at her seat, adjusting the hood of her hat once before sitting down. ❛ ... ❜ she ponders for a few seconds.
the caffeine naturally slides down her throat and she’s examining the napkin now, -- squinting past the hints of brown that dampened the surface. a faint smile emerges and she begins to wonder if he’d misplaced the note but she scans the area and THAT didn’t really make much sense. soojung finally glanced upward, recognizing the barista as one that she had seen on several different occasions. she should express her gratitude because that’s what people did once they were complimented, right? instead, however, she decides to strike up a conversation because a simple ‘thanks’ was clearly out of the question.
❛ long day? ❜
