Although having a fairy-tale appearance, the Moon Kingdom is technologically advanced and is deemed as the capital of the Solar System; it houses Queen Serenity, the Royal Family, the Eternal Senshi Training Center, and the beloved Silver Crystal.
SOCIETY
Those who are born on the Moon, and who have Moon Heart Crystals, have two duties: protect the Silver Crystal and protect the Earth and itâs inhabitants. Although the professional Senshi typically in charge of these tasks, all Moon people are responsible as well. All Senshi have special abilities, but those of the Moon are based around moonlight, energy in different forms, healing, and sound. Even though people of the Moon revolve metaphorically and literally around the Earth, the society is still rich in culture.Â
Recreation & EntertainmentÂ
The national sport on the Moon is ice skating, there is even a national rink dedicated to the sport. However, many inhabitants also enjoy eating, cooking, and exploring. Any activity that deals with nature or the outdoors is also loved.Â
Transportation
Bites, motorbikes, and trams are popular forms of transportation. There are very few cars or large vechicles in the Moon, most residents prefer to use public transportation or their own means. The Moon is small enough to walk to many places, so it is not necessary to have boats, airplanes, or large highways.Â
Arts & Culture
There are various museums, theaters, and other places to visit throughout the western and northern parts of the Moon. There are national and natural history museums, movie theaters, theaters, and a small amusement park.Â
Languages
The main, official language spoken on the Moon is Japanese; however, the use of other languages is often encouraged. Students in school are forced to learn at least one more language, but can be exempt if one speaks another language fluently at home.Â
Food
The people of the Moon have a well-balanced diet consisting of all major food groups. They eat a lot of fish and vegetables, but sweets are also a favorite among residents.Â
Traditional Dress, Holidays, and Festivals
The traditional colors of dress include blue and red, and white with traces of gold and/or silver. Senshi uniforms and traditional common people dress are typically blue and red, while royalty wear white. Long, flowing dresses were typical for women while men tended to wear button-up shirts and trousers.Â
Most holidays are celebrated with festivals: the people of the Moon celebrate the Queenâs birthday, the end of the war with the Dark Kingdom, and the solstices. Although the end of the war with the Dark Kingdom is celebrated with a festival, the beginning portion of this festival is used as a memorial to remember all of those who lost their lives and as a reminder as to why protecting the Earth is vital.Â
Beliefs & Assumptions
A core value of Moon people is being selfless: protect until death. It may seem extreme to some, but it is their sole purpose to protect the earth and the Silver Crystal, and they take it very seriously. Being selfless, in turn, feeds into other aspects of their life. When a Moon person makes a promise, they keep it; and when they say that theyâll do something or believe in something, they stick to it. Although some may come off as naive, they are incredibly trusting because they believe that others are also just as selfless. This creates a harmonious society, but causes them to be unprepared for when those with bad intentions make contact with them.Â
The guards who are in charge of keeping Queen Serenity and the Royal Family safe are held to high standards and are seen as some of the most powerful of the universe, because they are. In a way, they are celebrities of the Moon.Â
An important aspect to this society, although have been broken a few times, is that people of the Earth and people of the Moon are not allowed to fall in love or be in romantic relationships. It is seen as a conflict of interest, as the Moon people are supposed to protect those from Earth. Although Prince Endymion of Earth and Princess Serenity of the Moon (now known as Queen Serenity) broke this rule, it is still greatly looked down upon and considered taboo.
Folklore
Legend has it that when the Holy Blade shines bright, it is near a person who has part of the Silver Crystal inside of them and they will become ruler of the Moon Kingdom one day.
How to Visit
The Moon is always open to visitors and enjoys the tourism. The history of the Moon is often known to those from other planets, especially those within the solar system, so its expected that any visitors pay respects to the memorials located around the Moon if one comes across one. Moon people also under the assumption that when tourists come, they know what to do and where to go, but if they will always give recommendations if asked.Â
GEOGRAPHY
There are various âMaresâ (or âseasâ) which make up the geography of the Moon -- there are twelve in total with one âOceanus.â Each Mare is a specific section of the Moon: some are dedicated to housing, some function as agricultural centers, and others are used as centers of entertainment. The overall aesthetic of buildings on the Moon resemble Croatian Romanesque architecture: white stone buildings, often decorated with columns, arches, arcades, and wooden roofs. The stone used for buildings often appears glittering and crystal-like. Where space is not being used, water fills.Â
CLIMATE
The weather, time, seasons, and anything related to time or conditions is all regulated by the Eternity Main System. Although the opportunity to have any kind of weather one could imagine is there, people of the Moon often prefer cooler temperatures and light breezes, typical of a spring day. Some Mares have other temperatures, depending on if the location is dedicated to winter sports or for agricultural needs.Â
MAJOR CITIES AND WELL-KNOWN PLACES
Mare Serenitatis
Mare Serenitatis, or the âSea of Serenityâ, is where the Moon Castle resides as well as the most inner of the main city. Outside of the castle, besides the vast Castle Garden, resides high officials and homes for the Royal Familyâs personal guards.Â
The Moon Castle has a few well-known features -- all of which are forbidden to enter; these places include the Space-Time Door and the Chamber of Prayer (which houses the Crystal Tower at the center of the castle as well as the Holy Blade). The Space-Time Door is a gateway to the Fourth Dimension and used to be guarded by Sailor Pluto; Sailor Pluto still has the key -- or the Key of Space-Time -- and it can only be opened with her permission. The Chamber of Prayer houses the Crystal Tower; the Crystal Tower not only holds the Silver Crystal -- the crystal that runs the Eternity Main System -- but also the Holy Blade. The purpose of this Blade is to protect Queen Serenity and very few have the power to use it.Â
The Moon Castle also holds one of the largest libraries in the solar system; the majority of the information is stored on microchips, however.
Mare Crisium
The Eternal Senshi Training Center (ESTC) is located near Mare Serenitatis in Mare Crisium: the ESTC is the training facility for all Senshi who wish to become Eternal Senshi -- or, professional soldiers of the universe.
Mare Tranquillitatis, Mare Imbrium, Mare Insularum, Mare Nubium
All of these Mares are primarily used for living. Tranquillitatis is known as the more âwealthyâ area where those who work as government officials, educators, scientists, physicians, and others of such professions live. Mare Ibrium and Mare Insularum are locations where the majority of the citizens of the Moon reside. Mare Nubium -- located in the southern hemisphere of the Moon -- is a smaller farm town.
Mare Fecunditatis, Mare Nectaris, Mare Vaporum
Fecunditatis, Nectaris, and Vaporum are known as the main shopping, entertainment, and education districts. Fecunditatis is used as the education area, housing a preschool, primary school, high school, and university. Nectaris is where many of the university students go to party at night and where families go to have brunch. Although small shops and cafes can be found throughout all Mares, the highest concentration is in Mare Nectaris. Mare Vaporum is the location where the National Ice Skating Rink is located as well as other outdoor and indoor activities.
Mare Humorum, Mare Cognitum, Oceanus Procellarum
These Mares are used for agricultural purposes. Mare Humorum is where the majority of sea-life is kept, Mare Cognitum is where livestock is kept, and Oceanus Procellarum is used as farmland.Â
Mare Frigoris
Mare Frigoris is known as âno-manâs landâ because half of it is always on the dark side of the Moon. For reasons unknown, it is illegal to go to Mare Frigoris, yet this law is not well enforced. Many lovers sneak though the gates and watch the stars on the dark side of the Moon. Â
Various Craters
Craters have various purposes: they are used as park locations in the North, East (on the Moon), and Southeast. Craters on the west-side -- where farmland is -- are not used as parks and instead as areas for factories and distribution centers. The crater Plato, however, is used as an inter-planet travel station.Â
HISTORIC SITES & LANDMARKS
Mare Ibrium & Mare Serenitatis
These two Mares were once the main centers of the Moon, where the old Moon Castle and city center was located. These Mares, however, were filled with lava after the battle with Queen Beryl. Only a few relics remained, but not enough to be restored. The people of the Moon had to rebuild everything and although these places are known as a location of mass-murder, they are still used for daily life. There are various memorials and small historical sites to remember the tragedy that occurred.Â
The Royal Garden
The Royal Garden, encompassing the Moon Castle, is open to the public of the moon and is deemed a national park. It is large enough to where many people get married on the property, have special events, and national holidays are celebrated here. Itâs also used as a community center where summer camps are held.Â

Taewoo was currently making his way up the steps and had just passed the ninth floor â it should have been an uneventful afternoon, but, around Crystal Academy, he knew better that there are no such things as boring days. The noise pierced through his headphones: a shriek that sounded as if someone was truly in trouble. Taewoo took out his headphones and began running up the steps, and once he opened the door to the tenth floor, the blood-curdling yell was obviously coming from down this hall. A few individuals had already began pooling in the hallway, trying to see what the matter was.
Once he was at the scene of the crime, he barged into the room without knocking -- if someone was in danger, it was his job as a Student Leader to assist the situation. What Taewoo had expected to see and what was actually in front of him, however, were two different things. His mind expected to see blood, but his eyes got someone standing on their bed instead. His mind expected horror, but his eyes got â oh, no.
There was a weird creature crawling around the floor, perhaps something between a cockroach and a freakishly large ant. What it was, he had no idea, but he did know that he wanted nothing to do with it. His eyes followed each of the tiny legs, making sure that it was not coming near him nor getting ready to fly. That would be an entirely separate catastrophe.
âHey,â he called out to the person in the room. âDo you have a cup or something we can catch this with?â
once her request was accepted, youngae replied by pressing her lips together instead of putting on a smile. she was going to stay serious for a while. with a nod she turned around to close the door behind them, leaving all of her teammates behind. âwell, so if they try to hurt me i can hurt them?â youngae turned back slowly, avoiding eye contact. maybe she was a strong and courageous girl but she still had her limits. spiders may not cause any kind of harm but they were still freaky and she didnât like them.
her hands took the job of patting her hair down, trying to get it in place. it wasnât a situation where you had to look good but she still wanted to do it. âa fourth year?â werenât they supposed to be better? more prepared? if someone like them got taken away then youngae certainly took a hit on her confidence. the girl quickly shook her head. it wasnât the time to feel down. if anything, she needed to feel as confident as ever. âwell, did you check the fourth year dorm already? are you sure? they could just be in the bathroom or something.â
For whatever reason, Taewoo wasnât expecting a response from Youngae about his moral-driven side comment. It caught him off guard, âI mean... I guess? Itâs self-defense, then, right?â He didnât think that much more of it: there were bigger things to worry about, like what was actually happening and if his suspicion of Jae being the one missing was true or not. Taewoo continued walking forward and towards the next first-year room.
They were close to being right outside of it when Youngae asked her other question, and he responded right before opening the door, âNo, another Student Leader is checking that floor. I was given this floor first.â Taewoo quickly stepped inside the next room, flipping a page over on his clipboard and scanning the room to check if everyone was here. He counted ten heads and then read off the list of names. Once he was sure everyone was there, he closed the door and met Youngae in the hallway again. âIâm pretty sure theyâre missing. Itâs someone that I hang out with a lot and itâs not like them to just leave without saying anything,â Theyâve always got into contact somehow. Jae and Taewoo werenât that easily separated. It was either Jae really was missing, or Taewoo just didnât know him how he thought he did.Â
âIs it possible to have a favorite Twice song?â He did, of course. TT was a cute song, but Sana was even cuter... not like he would ever disclose the latter information to Ryujin. It might out him for having a thing for blonde hair, cute cheeks, and long legs when the truth was anything but. Maybe he did have a type, but maybe he didnât -- Taewoo didnât want to believe that Ryujin was just his type. So, he stayed away from mentioning any member of Twice (or any member of any girl group, for that matter... although, who he would deem as his ideal type did still have blonde hair, cute cheeks, and nice legs). âI like all of them, but nothing can top TT,â he tried to stop smiling for once in this conversation, but it wasn't going very well. âWhatâs yours? Or are you more of a fan of the boy groups out there?âÂ
Why it made his heart flutter, he didnât know; perhaps because this was now his reality, a reality where he was able to sit and ask Ryujin (most) anything he wanted and didnât have to go through Seol and pray for the right answer. It was nice, and Taewoo was surely going to take advantage of it. âSo, if I can ask you questions, can I...â -- he folded his arms on the table, leaning forward -- â...ask what your favorite thing to do is? Besides eating.â Whatever it is, itâll be on the top of his list of date ideas. If he was being honest, part of him would miss going through Seol, and he probably still would with a few things: for surprises, and whatnot. Â
âAre you serious?â Matching frames would be really cute and just the right amount of âweâre together!â to where it wouldnât be overbearing. He really liked the thought of it, but didnât know that sheâd take this suggestion seriously: Taewoo was glad that she did, though. âNo, Iâm not busy. Well, I guess now I am,â all he was going to do was study and perhaps head off to the gym to practice flying. All of that could wait for Ryujin, though.
âSpeaking of food, are you ready to order?â He hadnât even glanced at the food options on the menu; Taewoo was too busy trying not to mess up their first date. He reached for the menu and quickly eyed through the options, picking out something that didnât seem all too bad. Â
most people wouldnât have made her look, but when she picked up his voice youngaeâs eyes slowly looked away from the bedsheets and towards the big figure by the door. taewoo was already tall by himself, but adding all the things he decided to bring made him even bigger. some gifts meant nothing to her when the people who gave them meant nothing as well, but maybe the girl would try finding a place to fit that teddy bear once she returned to her room. that little bit of joy in her heart still wasnât much to bring her back to the energy-filled state that was youngae, but it was enough for the girl to push herself up and sit.
âhey.â her hands grabbed the pillow behind her and made it more comfortable against her back. at least she had that. the bed was very comfortable, the blankets were very warm and the food was better than the ones she had in the cafeteria. it probably would make some people want to stay there for a while. youngae would have probably wanted to as well, but only if it was because of a fracture or two and not in her current situation.
she used her hand to point at the single chair in the room which spent most of its time empty. âsit.â and that was all of her reply because delving into what she was actually feeling wouldnât make that conversation too pleasant. youngae pressed her lips together while looking down, thinking for a bit, before bringing her head back up. âi think iâd like some snacks.â
Navigating situations like this wasnât Taewooâs forte. Anyone who knew him knew fully well that Taewoo and any kind of interaction that required a level of thought and carefulness was not going to happen as gracefully as he had planned it. And even if he was comfortable around Youngae before, how was he supposed to act now? He had been awkwardly hovering around the entrance into her room before she told him to sit, and he was thankful that she told him to.Â
Without a second thought, he moved to sit in the chair. He sat, gifts that he brought folded in his hands and resting on his lap. Taewoo let his eyes fall to the floor while he tried to think of a good conversation starter: he could bring up things theyâve been doing around the academy, but maybe thatâd bring up some unwanted emotions; he could tell a joke or two, but what if she didnât find him funny or just didnât feel like laughing? There were many possibilities to ease back into things, but there were just as many that would mess this up. All he wanted was for Youngae to be comfortable and to heal quickly.Â
âSnacks!â He snapped out of it, getting up quickly and moving towards her bedside. âThere are a few chocolate bars and a thing of shrimp chips... I kind of forgot what you really like, so if you hate something I can eat it and go buy you something else, if you want,â he set the snacks on her lap. âAnd here are some other thingsâ -- the teddy bear and book was set down, too -- âthe book is about plants. There are an obnoxious variety of tomatoes out there.â Clumsy words and clumsy actions plagued him. Hopefully Youngae would be able to feel his sincerity throughout all of it, though.Â

If he were to be honest, he had been thinking about this conversation for over a year: He has been tiptoeing around the younger girl, not with fear, but with trying to not disturb her. Taewoo didnât having awkward relationship with people he was supposed to be close with. This especially meant with Mayumi, as they were teammates. How would they be able to protect each other if they couldnât even have a conversation? He wanted to try and change or apologize for whatever was bothering her. Today, it had been enough.
Taewoo had spent the past years wondering what exactly he had done that would have made her hate him -- he never thought of himself as someone who was disliked (although he was sure some people as such did exist). But it simply felt wrong to keep this going on any longer. Finally, he would bring it up.Â
After practicing for a while in room 1501 all alone, he heard the door handle turn and the squeaky hinges announce that someone was coming in. Without fully turning to see who it was, he began speaking, âHey, Sang, so Iâve been thinking that I shoul -- Oh, hey Mayumi.âÂ
his palms pressed against the pile of clothing while his eyes had their aim dead on the other. âa bet?â how ridiculous. it wasnât simply because sang wasnât the competitive type or that he didnât believe in his point of view, but the simple fact such thing was even suggested. the older let out a disappointed sigh, shaking his head lightly. âhow could you even think of that? you really wish that bad that we are in danger? do you want to win that bet?â
he felt like a mother scolding her child, but some thought was needed to be put into the situation. they were talking about an actual danger that could cause harm to others and sang didnât really want to put any sort of wish on that becoming true â and much less would he like to win a bet on how right he was people were going to get hurt. âif you ever want me to wash your clothes you can just ask me, you know.â maybe he wasnât the strongest but a big pile of fabric wasnât any kind of challenge. âstill, if i end up being wrong you can always say âi told you soâ.â
Hearing Sang repeat his thought was enough to solidify that maybe making a bet wasnât that good of an idea. Taewoo was left sitting without a word to say. There wasnât a way that he could try to correct himself, or prove that maybe betting on a lot of people dying wasnât that bad. Instead, he tilted his head to the side, eyes going down to the crumpled blanket at the end of his bed, âMaybe not.â In a way Taewoo was lucky to have Sang as a roommate and teammate -- he always was able to put things into perspective (even if it should have been obvious in the first place).Â
âWait, really?â His mood picked up: was Sang being serious? If Taewoo was being honest, it didnât matter if he was being honest or not -- Taewoo wouldnât be making Sang do his laundry any time soon (unless he won the otherâs labor fair and square, of course). Not doing laundry all the time was also a small way to help with Earthâs current condition: saving water one unwashed sock at a time. In a weird way, it made sense. âNo offense, but never expect the favor to be returned if you do; if I donât do my own laundry, I wonât be doing anyone elseâs,â he let out a chuckle, stretching out his legs in front of him. âBut if I am right, trust that I will be rubbing it in your face. After we beat the bad guys, of course.âÂ
