CHERRYPOP is a fictional seventeen subunit that debuted on may 26th, 2015 with the track “ WHAT IS LOVE? ” under pledis entertainment. CHERRYPOP serves as the FOURTH subunit of SEVENTEEN, consisting of AIMEE, VANESSA, AND RENEE. the girls stand out for their SWEET and GIRLY concept and tracks.

during the pre-debut phase of SEVENTEEN, many fans had labeled the girls “ LOVER GIRLS ”, and the name had stuck with the subunit until 2018, when PLEDIS debuted the three girls in their own group, giving them the official name of “ CHERRYPOP ”.

hongjoong always knew he had a protective side - especially when it came to yuri. he knew that she could defend herself, and she wasn't his kid or sister, but she had gone through so much, had been hurt by so many people. he never understood why people could hurt the girl, she was the most pure and sweet soul he had ever meet. so, when yuri's mother showed up to one of their apartment unannounced, wanting to speak to yuri, hongjoong didn't let it slide.

mark was the older brother sooyoung needed. before sooyoung's older brother passed away, mark promised her brother that he would always look out for her. he never once failed to keep that promise. so when their manager was constantly mistreating sooyoung and bullying her - mark took the matter in his hands and stood up for her, time and time again, until eventually, the manager was gone.

changbin always had a soft side for blaise. blaise never once said anything mean towards changbin, joking or not, and she had always admired him. she was always the supportive friend that changbin needed. so when hyunjin cheated on her - he never once left her side. he supported her through it all, he was the shoulder she needed to cry one, the one that would make her laugh, and the once to bring her soul back.

seungcheol would do anything for his members, he always worried about them, if they ate enough, if they were healthy, and if they were happy. he always sent texts to the members if they were away for the weekend to check on them - so when renee went to visit her father for the weekened when he was in south korea, seungcheol texted her every night, asking how her day was. but, renee didn't respond all weekend. seungcheol knew this wasn't normal, and he had this gut feeling that something was wrong. so, he drove two hours to where renee and her father was staying, and when he arrived at the hotel...he could never forget the sight he saw. renee was covered in bruises, and her phone was smashed, her screen in pieces. seungcheol knew it was her father that did this to her, and if it weren't for renee, he would've beat her poor excuse of a father to a pulp that night. he helped her through everything, with the lawyers, reports, court, he was the one who kept her alive during the whole thing.

in which vanessa & joshua realize they may love each other more than they should.

vanessa loved the beach. she loved the sounds of the waves crashing against the water, the feeling of the soft yet hot sand against her feet, the endless amount of shells coming to the shallow end, how the ocean cooled her from the hot day, letting her join in on their waves. she loved swimming out deeper, jumping the big waves or screaming and laughing when she failed, getting taken out by the deep blue water. she loved it all - it brought her peace. it brought her joy.

it brought back many memories of her childhood - when her and her family used to take a quick trip to the beach throughout the summer, her and her sister, harlow, had built countless of sand castles. they learned to swim in the ocean, they even attempted to learn to surf. the ocean was where their best memories were created. where their sister bond really came from.

vanessa smiled softly as she thought back on her memories, turning her attention back into reality to watch the sunset, appericating the mix of pinks and purples and the golden hue of the sun. she could hear joshua come up next to her, laying out their blanket on the sand.

“want to sit?” joshua asked, patting the empty spot next to him. vanessa nodded, and snuggled up next to joshua, collecting her dress and laying it on her ankles to prevent it from getting sandy.

the pair sat in silence for awhile, both taking in the beauty in front of them. as she took in the sunset, she felt a surge of happiness and gratitude run through her for the boy next to her, joshua. she was so grateful he still came on the trip with her - even though hoshi cancelled. she could feel that he was nervous about the trip only consisting of the two of them - but he still came anyway. she admired that. Joshua always had a special place in her heart for his caring and thoughtful nature.

“do you ever wonder, if seventeen never happened - if we would ever cross paths?” vanessa asked, removing her head from joshua’s shoulder to look at him, smiling when the boy looked shocked. “i know that came out of nowhere, but i was just wondering…i feel like all of us were supposed to meet in our lifetime, but what if none of us wanted to be an idol? would we still be friends?” Vanessa trailed off, moving her eyes to look at the ocean, smiling when she saw dolphins jumping out of the water. Joshua didn't notice, still looking at the girl next to him, taking in her features.

“i think we would. i couldn’t imagine living my life without you on my side.” Joshua said, and Vanessa knew that he meant that, Joshua meant that with his soul, he would never make anything up like that. he was always true with Vanessa. Vanessa smiled, raising her eyebrows when she looked over at the boy, scoffing when Joshua smirked.

"you're always quite the romantic." Vanessa chuckled, gently shoving the boy's shoulder. the duo laughed at the cheesy moment, sighing when their chuckles faded. "we better get you fed, I don't want you to become a hangry monster and get mad at me," Vanessa joked, standing up and dusting off her dress, offering a hand to the man when she was finished.

Joshua only smiled, standing up and folding up the blanket before he walked next to the girl, biting his lip. he couldn't help but feel disappointed in himself - he had the perfect moment to confess his feelings to Vanessa, it was the perfect setting, the mood was sentimental...but he just couldn't bring himself to do it. he could never really read Vanessa, despite knowing her for almost a decade. he could never read what she was thinking or feeling...at times he thought there could be something in her heart for him throughout the trip, like when she held his hand through the streets, or got bashful when he fed her a strawberry...or just mere minutes ago, when she smiled at him like nothing else in the world mattered.

but then, he felt confused, he felt as if he was reading too much into her emotions, like he was being delusional in thinking she even thought of him romantically. like when she just brushed off his romantic comment like it was sand on her dress. Vanessa always kept him on edge, he thought he was so close to having her, but then he felt so distant from her at the same time.

he hoped one day he could figure her out. but that was something he loved about her in the same breath, he loved that she kept on his toes. he loved her confidence to be unpredictable. he knew she was everything he wanted - he could only dream she was wanting him too.

a few hours had passed by since dinner, and joshua and vanessa had just returned back to their rented condo. vanessa had just gotten out of her warm shower, her hair neatly braided on her shoulders, wearing her favorite cherry pajama set. she wandered into the kitchen to find her a small snack, surprised when she saw Joshua scooping out her favorite ice cream into two bowls. Vanessa smiled, speed walking towards Joshua, hugging him from behind.

"You're so sweet, shua! When did you even pick this up?" Vanessa asked excitedly, unwrapping her arms from the man's waist to stand next to him, chuckling softly when she saw Joshua's flustered face.

'I picked it up when you were taking your four hour nap," Joshua said, raising his eyebrows at the girl, "You said you were only sleeping for twenty minutes. I got bored after the first hour and went shopping."

"You should have woken me up, you know I don't bite." Vanessa teased, smiling when Joshua slid her bowl towards her. "Can we watch a movie while we eat this?" Vanessa asked, smiling when Joshua nodded.

Vanessa jumped onto the couch, pulling her soft blanket she brought over her, shifting so she was laying sideways, her legs resting in Joshua's lap.

"Do you want to pick since you bought the ice cream? You can take it as my payment to you." Vanessa offered, laughing when Joshua widened his eyes. Vanessa was very particular about her movies - whenever the members had a movie night, Vanessa always insisted she picked, or always refused to watch movies the other boys picked if it wasn't her taste. She reluctantly sat through a few...interesting movies just to make the boys (hoshi) happy, but not after protesting.

"So generous, but it's okay. I don't really know what we'd watch." Joshua said, handing the remote to the girl. Vanessa shrugged, but quickly logged into her Netflix and picked a movie. one of her frequent comfort movies - Joshua just smiled when he saw it. it brought back memories from such a long time ago, and he wondered if she was thinking back on them too. was there a chance Vanessa picked this movie in hopes to bring them back to that night?

Joshua hated the sight infront of him. it made him sick to see Vanessa hiding her blankets, her harsh sobs echoing in the room, her tears soaking her sheets under her. Joshua was sitting at the edge of her bed, gently running his hand back and forth on her back.

"How could he just have the audacity to do that? calling me in the middle of the night just to break my heart?" Vanessa cried out, finally emerging out of her blankets, her face red and her eyes swollen. "He couldn't even have the guts to show up at the door? I mean what a joke!" Vanessa scoffed, more tears running down her hot cheeks.

"He is a joke, nessa. You deserve better, he's a jerk for doing what he did." Joshua said, scooting closer to wrap the girl in a hug, letting her rest her head on his chest. "Him being stupid isn't your fault, though. Nothing you did made him doing this valid." Joshua said, frowning when Vanessa started sobbing again, harshly breathing in and out between her cries. Joshua cooed, now bringing his fingers through her hair in hopes to calm her down.

Once Vanessa finally calmed down, Joshua grabbed a few tissues from her nightstand and patted her back, smiling when the girl sat up. Joshua gently wiped her face, wiping her hot tears away. He then handed her a cup of water, raising his eyebrows until she drank it. Vanessa handed him the water wordlessly, smiling softly at him.

"Thanks for staying with me," Vanessa whispered, sighing when Joshua just wrapped her in another hug, tucking her head into his chest. "Your hugs are always so warm."

"Im here anytime you need me, anytime you want a hug." Joshua said, smiling when he heard Vanessa's soft chuckle. "Want to watch a movie? Im sure it will help you feel better." Joshua suggested, smiling when Vanessa nodded, handing her the remote. Vanessa turned on "Murder Mystery", smiling when Joshua gasped at seeing Adam Sandler.

"This movie is comedic gold," Vanessa said, smiling when Joshua nodded. She snuggled into Joshua's chest, cringing when she could feel her tears. "You can go get a new shirt, if you want. I might have a few sweatshirts that would fit you." Vanessa suggested, giggling when he found one of Mongyu’s stolen hoodies and put it one.

She went back to laying on his chest, wrapping an arm around his stomach. Joshua put an arm under her back, resting his hand on her waist.

"You are so warm, you're like a heat box." Vanessa joked, snuggling further into Joshua. "I love you, shua." Vanessa whispered softly, sincerity in her voice.

Joshua choked, not expecting to hear those three words out of her mouth. He could feel his heart beating faster, but he couldn't help but frown as the words sunk in, Vanessa didn't love him the way he loved her. Vanessa loved him like he was family, like she would her own brother - but Joshua's love was so much deeper than that, at least to his knowledge. He could feel a slight glimmer of hope go through his body that perhaps his assumption was wrong, that perhaps she saw him more than a brother - but he knew it was unlikely. But he couldn't help himself from whispering back, "I love you too, chouchou."

Maybe one day, he would really tell her he loved her more than he should. That he loved her from the moon and back.

But he knew one thing, he would never break her heart like Byun Baekhyun did.

Vanessa cleared her throat, looking over at Joshua with a confused face. "Hello? Earth to Joshua?" Vanessa asked, biting her lip when Joshua looked over at her, clearly in a daze. "Thinking about me crying on you?"

Joshua coughed, glaring at Vanessa when she only laughed at him. you could never hide anything from Vanessa.

"I was, actually." Joshua said, rolling his eyes when Vanessa kept laughing at him. "I was about to say im proud of you, but never mind." Joshua said dramatically, shaking his head when Vanessa cooed at him.

"Why are you proud? All I did was laugh in his face and embarrass him." Vanessa asked, lightly scoffing.

"No, you didn't just do that. You stood your ground and didn't let yourself get pushed around. And you recovered from it, and healed. You aren't bitter about it, I bet he still tosses and turns at night beating himself up for letting you go." Joshua said.

“I guess so,” Vanessa pursed her lips.

Damn Joshua and the way his words made her heart flutter. Why did she let him sway her? They’ve been friends for a decade…she was used to him. She saw him almost everyday, why was he all of the sudden affecting her? Why could she feel her thoughts start to get scattered, for once finding herself unable able to find a response.

So, she didn’t say anything, turning her attention back to the tv and eating her icecream, her heart sinking as the silence prolonged. As she thought about the past few days, she could feel herself start to dread going back home.

Joshua…something was different. He was smiling more. He was being nicer than usual, and she felt even closer to him than before, and she loved the way he looked at her. Like she was his favorite thing in the whole world. She had a sneaking suspicion that if she didn’t say anything about her feelings sometime soon, things would just go back to normal when they returned to their respective apartments. They’d just be friends in a band. Nothing more.

Today was their last day of their vacation. And Vanessa wasn't ready to go home. For starters, her bedroom was a mess - none of her clothes were packed, and she had her personal items scattered across the floor and surfaces. Typically, at home, she was neat and kept her things organized...but her motivation to keep things organized typically flew out the window when she was on vacation. Next, she loved Thailand, she loved everything they did, and she wasn't ready to say goodbye to the gorgeous land quite yet.

She also wasn't wanting to say goodbye to a certain someone.

She knew that was dramatic, she would see Joshua when she went home again. She would probably see him the next day when they arrived home, but she wasn't ready to say goodbye to being alone with him. She knew things would change when they went home. Joshua...he wouldn't be the flirtatious gentlemen like he was for the past few days. He'd just be...her friend. And Vanessa knew she couldn't handle that being the case.

She couldn't help but feel her feelings for Joshua grow - she had been forming a crush on him for a few months now, but she could never find enough courage in herself to confess to him.

For once, she found herself terrified to do something, to act on her feelings, and she hated it. She wished she could just run into his arms and tell him how he makes her feel, how he makes her feel so warm and fuzzy without even trying, how he makes her feel so special and loved…like she could trust him with her heart.

And it was very hard to get Vanessa to trust someone that much.

for the rest of the day, vanessa couldn’t pull her eyes off of joshua - she admired him in every little thing he did. how he walked, talked, how his arms flexed and how he always gave her the sweetest yet mischievous smile whenever he caught her looking at him. he knew, oh he most certainly knew. vanessa might have been able to hide her growing crush on him for a few months - but now, there was no going back. she blew her cover - but was she really trying to hide it anymore?

she couldn’t make up her mind. she couldn’t decide what she wanted - what would be the best option. she knew she wanted joshua - she wanted him with all her heart, she wanted him to just kiss her and tell her everything would be okay - but in the same breath, she knew everything had a chance of not being okay.

there was always the endless what-ifs, endless amounts of anxieties of if the company would approve - if the fans would approve, the members…what would happen if they broke up, and what people would say if they did spilt. the pressure of the public’s reaction settled into her chest the more she stared at Joshua peacefully laying in the sand.

she was starting to get really tired of caring of what people would say, or think about her based on her decisions and her content…but she knew, the strong voice that hides in shadows would tell her, it was apart of the job.

but a job wasn’t supposed to take away from her life - her personal life. she couldn’t let it rob her of things, or people she wanted. she couldn’t stand forcing her emotions down any longer, she couldn’t keep her secert anymore. she had to say something, she had to tell him, she…she had to know that she has him.

“Shua, you awake?” Vanessa asked, gently tapping his shoulder, smiling when he opened and squinted his eyes to look at her, giving her a lopsided smile when he finally adjusted to the light. “Can we talk?”

Joshua nodded, sitting up and bringing his attention to the girl, raising his eyebrow in curiosity, “Is everything alright?”

Vanessa nodded, crossing her legs, her hands nervously playing with seventeen’s matching rings.

“I’ve just been…thinking about some things recently, thinking about…” Vanessa trailed off, internally cursing herself out for being so nervous - why couldn’t she just spit it out?

“Thinking about me?” Joshua asked, chuckling when Vanessa looked him wide eyed, seeming to choke on air as she took in his words, shaking her head in disbelief. how was he so shameless?

“Yeah, I have been. And, i’m going to be honest, i’m really sick of this little game we have. You have me so confused - I can never tell what your feelings are for me, either you act like you’re in love with me, or you act like we’re just close friends. And as much as it is fun, I don’t want to chase you anymore. I have feelings for you, Shua. Everytime I see you, it feels like my heart is going to come out of my body and explode. And it’s fine if you don’t like me back, I understand and I wont be offe-”

Vanessa was suddenly cut off from her rambling with Joshua leaning forward and gently kissing her, his hands pulling her face forward, one on her rosy cheeks and one on her chin, and Vanessa couldn’t help but wrap her arms around his neck, deepening the kiss.

This, this was it. This was all Vanessa ever wanted, all she ever dreamed of. She thought all she wanted was her career, to be successful. But nothing, nothing could compare to this, not even thousands of people chanting your name - there was no better feeling for Vanessa than right now, kissing the man her heart had been begging for for months.

Joshua eventually pulled away, sending butterflies down Vanessa’s spine when he moved a strand of hair behind her ear. She swore the world stopped - it was only her and Joshua in this moment, both staring at each other with so much love, so much passion.

“I think you’re my favorite part of this world.” Joshua said, smiling when Vanessa gasped, squeezing her eyes shut as she giggled, shaking her head. “And that’s my favorite sound.”

“Joshua, you’re such a flirt,” Vanessa yelled, tackling him into a hug, “You’re so cheesy, and typically I hate those sorts of things…but with you it’s okay.”

“Just okay?” Joshua asked, laughing when Vanessa groaned, and he knew she was rolling her eyes into his shoulder. “I say you think it’s more than okay.”

“Hush, that’s enough teasing. I opened up my heart to you and now you just go back to making fun of me.” Vanessa said, removing herself from laying on top of Joshua, crossing her arms.

“I didn’t mean it like that,” Joshua cooed, booping her nose. “We have a plane to catch, don’t we?”

Vanessa only sighed and nodded.

“Don’t want to go back?” Joshua asked, frowning when Vanessa shrugged and looked back towards the ocean, taking in the waves one last time. she could feel it now, the peace, the sound of the waves crashing against each other…it was like the encouragement she needed. the reassurance she needed, telling her it would work out.

“Do you promise that when we go home, none of this fades? Promise not to stop flirting with me?” Vanessa asked, smiling when Joshua only hugged her, gently patting her back.

“As long as you promise to not hide your feelings anymore, I promise.” Joshua said, smiling when Vanessa hummed in response.

Vanessa loved the beach. And she also loved Joshua, maybe more than she should. He brought her peace, and maybe he could teach her what real love really meant.

A DEEP DIVE INTO THE LOVE HISTORY OF VANESSA HWANG

BYUN BAEKHYUN.

relationship length : two years ( 2019 - 2021 )

baekhyun and vanessa hit off as soon as they met, they met at a birthday party they were both invited to - and spent the whole night talking. about anything, and they were blindly charmed by each other, immediately getting attached. the duo snuck away from the party, and spent the night at baekhyun's house - with no inapporiate intentions. they spent hours just talking and sharing a bottle of whiskey, eventually falling asleep on his couch together. since then - the couple had a really steady relationship for two years....but then things took a turn for the worst. miscommunication, lack of boundaries, difference of opinions, just to name a few. they had a really great ending, too!

he broke up with her over the phone. in less than two minutes. and vanessa just laughed. baekhyun tried to apologize months later when she was promoting her solo, "my everything", but she didn't give him a chance. the conversation wasn't...the maturest. but it's behind them now.

baekhyun and vanessa .... they were the couple everyone was obsessed with. fans lost their minds when they started publicly teasing their relationship - it all started when baekhyun released "BAMBI". fans began speculating that the song could be referencing Vanessa, due to her being nicknamed "Bambi" by multiple people in the industry and fans. the relationship was never confirmed by either company, but the idols certainly didn't try to hide it. just months after the rumors started, Vanessa released a mini solo album, "MY EVERYTHING", a song about not releasing how much you had with your ex until it was all over, and with that - fans figured that the two iconic celebs had parted ways, almost as soon as the couple hit headliners, they were gone.

Joshua had the biggest crush on Vanessa ever since he could remember, ever since she set foot into the company. he loved her assertiveness, how she had no hesitation for stand up for what she believed was right, and how she held herself with so much confidence, but was still down to earth. he couldn't prevent his heart from skipping a beat every time she smiled his way, but he couldn't bring himself to act on his feelings. he felt like he never had a chance with her, even before she was in seventeen's debut lineup.

fast forward nine years, his feelings never changed. and every single member of seventeen knew about his crush, everyone but Vanessa. the members thought he would never make a move, but they couldn't give up on the hope of vanshua. Vanessa, Joshua, and hoshi planned a short beach vacation to Thailand, but hoshi cancelled last minute due to "unexpected family issues". Joshua was extremely hesitant to go on the trip alone with Vanessa, but he couldn't bring himself to cancel on her. so, he swallowed his nerves, and it ended up being the best vacation he could ask for. the two of them being alone with no obligations really opened their hearts up, and they came back to South Korea hand in hand. they were in the thin line between a situationship and dating for a few weeks, before Vanessa asked him out on her own. since then, they've had a really sweet relationship, the members are sick of them, but they are really happy they are together.

"Hello, my name is Aimee, and when I was in high school I got a really bad grade on a test, and I believed I shouldn't have gotten a bad grade because I partially got all my calculations right but my teacher didn't give me any credit for it, so I tried to negiotiate my grade a little bit and he got really mad at me and tried to throw a desk at me, then made me re-do the test and pretty much threaten to fail me if I told anyone about the incident. I told my principal anyway and he got fired." Aimee said, pursing her lips, "I brought peach rings."

Renee frowned at the girl before she started, patting her gently on the shoulder, "Hello, my name is Renee, and when I was younger I was get super light headed and dizzy, at times I would even pass out because of how bad it was, and every time I went to the ER for it the doctors would blame it on me "not eating enough", even though I was a very good eater. My parents decided to keep trying for a diagnosis and it took too many doctors to count to finally diagnosis me with POTS because all the doctors thought it was because of a poor diet, anxiety, or the heat." Renee said, scoffing before she added her candy, "I brought sour patch kids!"

"its me, Vanessa again, and when I was around nine or ten, I would have really bad anxiety attacks and my parents got really mad at me because I would be screaming and crying in a parking lot before we went to go do something and would be really mean to me, so I would shut down and go nonverbal for hours. They pretty much took everything away so I would "listen" and "straighten-up" so I had to learn to swallow everything down and bottle everything up at a young age and I couldn't talk about my feelings for a really long time because of that! Fast forward to middle school when I finally got diagnosed with anxiety my parents made me feel so guilty about having a mental illness I didn't take my medication for a whole year and I just continued to spiral!" Vanessa said, sarcastically laughing, "I brought skittles!"

"Hello, my name is Aimee, and one night I watched a horror movie with Joshua and Vernon when we were trainees because none of us could go home for the holidays, and I got really scared and was super freaked out, I couldn't fall asleep because I was so terrified. When I finally fell asleep, Joshua and Vernon came in my room to check on me and I heard them laughing and I woke up and got so scared I started flailing and freaking out, I fell off the top bunk and broke my arm...they had to call our manager to take me to the hospital and he was so mad that we woke him up because it was like three in the morning...Joshua and Vernon still make fun of me for it." Aimee laughed, smiling when the two other girls chuckled at her past antics, "I brought gummy worms!".

"Hello, my name is Renee, and during a stage for Very Nice during tour, I was jumping and getting all hyped up, but then my heart started racing and my vision became really blurry, I was all by myself near the edge of the stage and before I could sit down or move away I passed out, fell off the stage, I hit my head on one of the speakers on my way down...a security guard thankfully caught me before I hit the ground but I got a concussion and had to miss out on a few tour dates." Renee said, laughing before continuing, "The only thing I remember from that moment was I read a poster that said "Renee call me!" and it had a phone number on it, and then when I woke up I was laying backstage and Seungcheol and Wonwoo were fanning me and trying not to gag because my head and my nose was bleeding from hitting the speaker.
