Poppy blinked at that, surprised. “Prudence yelled at you? Wait, she taught you?” She was completely shocked at the fact that their friend was Annabelle’s teacher.

the last thing ada remembered was her excitement for halloween, having worked very hard on her kaneki costume. yet, she couldn’t fathom why she woke up in an empty building, wearing a low-cut t-shirt and leggings from the base of her costume, with a feeling of a dread creeping up her spine. she ignored it for the most part, thinking she must have blacked out from partying too much ( could a beldam even black out from too much alcohol?? ada usually had a lot of self-control when it came to drinking ). when she made it back to campus, she noticed people giving her weird looks. she quickly made a beeline to the nearest washroom, unsure of why people would be looking at her the way they did.

then, it all clicked into place. as she stared at her reflection, ada began to whimper and sob. her hands hovered over her collarbone, where very prominent cracks were etched into her skin like broken porcelain. another crack following the curve of her left cheekbone, just below her eye, also flashed in the harsh washroom light. how could she??– how could she do something so monstrous?? not once… but twice??

Poppy wasn’t hit with any of the spells. Not that it would have been a big deal with her costume, but it certainly wasn’t ideal. She had heard of things happening with them, people ending up in the hospital, and thankfully she hadn’t heard of any deaths or serious injuries yet, though she could be wrong. Halloween this year was no doubt scarier than any of the ones had ever been back home. But the girl was currently in the bathroom, taking off the makeup from the previous night (she got home so late, she couldn’t possibly spend time taking off the light makeup), and paused in her little corner when a girl came in and started crying. At first she didn’t see why, but then she saw the cracks and her eyes widened a little bit. “What happened?” The blonde asked quickly, mascara smudged beneath her eye as she rushed over to examine her.

“I’m not going to dress up as anything, those days are behind me,” he said, not without a little drama, as he looked out into the horizon. “And besides, James Bond is corny. It’s either all or nothing when it comes to costumes.” Otto paused. “And this year, it’s nothing. What are you going as?” he asked, to bring the questions away from him.

Poppy let out a dramatic sigh after hearing him. “Then go all out!” She suggested enthusiastically. She usually did the same thing, and though she usually didn’t go for very exciting costumes, they were usually pretty on point for what she was going for. “I saw a really pretty Ballerina costume the other day, so I think I’m going to do something with that.”

Annabelle saw Poppy and grinned. “Really? I would love for you to help!” Truth be told she loved cooking for people and especially cooking with people. She bounced on her heels and gestured for Poppy to follow her. “How have you been??”

Poppy hadn’t even seen Annabelle in a really long time, and now that it was her birthday, it was the perfect time to catch up. “That would be lovely!” She said happily, obediently following her. “Good, school here is a bit easier than at home, so I’m happy for the extra time.”

Poppy’s excitement fell at the other’s words and she nudged him with her hand, shaking her head. “You’re so boring, you have to dress up!” She told him stubbornly, confused as to why he wasn’t planning to in the first place. “At least say you’re James Bond or something. It’s so easy.” For guys, a suit could be plenty of people.

Annabelle grinned as she walked around in town. She was wearing the light blue sun dress that her parents had sent her for her birthday and she did a little twirl as she walked. She wanted to bake a cake but wanted to look around town as well. So here she was, a bag of a few different groceries for her cake and a smile on her face. “Hello there!” She giggled, seeing someone. “Im going to make a cake for my birthday! Do you want some?” She asked curiously.

Poppy was walking back from her volunteer work, a bit of paint on her face still, when she saw Annabelle. “Of course!” She told her, grinning ear to ear. “Happy birthday! Wait, have you made it yet? Can I help?” She asked, excited to help someone bake a cake when her mother wasn’t watching over her shoulder to see if she was doing everything right.

Melissa slowly lifted up the sleeve of her sweater, showing off the new tattoo on her wrist. “Well, what do you think?” she asked.

Poppy gasped at the sight of it. “I love it!” She exclaimed, a bit louder than intended, but quickly quieted down. “Sorry, it looks brilliant.”

“Poppy.” Prudence squealed, wrapping her arms around her quickly. She had definitely missed the girl when she had went off to school. “Yeah, finally mom and dad realized I should be going to the best university.”

Poppy hugged the other girl tightly and laughed a little at her words. “Well they made the right decision!” She told her and took a step back to look at her again. “What are you majoring in?”

“I’ve always wanted I kitten ever since I was little, plus I think I could use a little company since I live on my own.” she thought out loud.

“You definitely need one then! Just make sure you have all the supplies. You know, litterbox, scratching post, food... stuff like that.”

not too long they arrived at a hospital, a swarm of doctors immediately recognized them and treated them with utmost importance, though nathaniel hated being treated higher than others. he couldn’t shake them off, he was too weak to do it. getting her sister came at a price… he didn’t come out of that nightmare of a place without getting a few scratches and bruises. ❝ thank you for your help, honestly. but please, i am only in need of one doctor not a whole medical team. ❞ nate said through shaky breaths. ❝ on the other hand, please make sure my sister is treated with utmost care… i think she might be in shock or trauma. ❞ he whispered to one of the head doctors, that gave him a nod of assurance.

Poppy had been getting flashes of memories since leaving the other world. Seeing different things was triggering them, and every time she looked at Nate it seemed she got another one about him and their family. One thing she still didn’t know yet was how big of a deal people made of their family, so when they walked into the hospital and started to get swarmed by medical teams, she just stared for a moment. The blonde flicked her eyes towards her brother, not sure what to say in response, but pursed her lips. “I’m fine, I just need to remember.” She told him quickly, glancing at the team. She wasn’t even there for more than a couple hours, she didn’t need to take up a room instead of someone who actually needed it.

“It’s a community center in general, but they have a lot of programs for kids after school and stuff. For families without a lot of money.” She explained. “It’s all volunteer run.”

Emma yelped as she pricked her finger. It had hurt much worse than she had expected it to. A single hole in her gloves should have been an easy fix. At least in Emma’s mind it should have been. “Someone tell me why sewing this is so hard?”

Poppy quickly looked up from her studying when she heard a yelp of pain and smiled just a little bit, getting up to help the other girl. “Do you need any help? I can show you how to do it.” She suggested. “And if you always prick a certain finger, you could always wear a thimble.”

“I saw the cutest little kittens at the pet store on my way home yesterday. Is it bad that I want to get one now?” Violet giggled out softly.

“Of course not!” Poppy said with a big grin on her face. “Having a cat is great, I love cats.” She’d been taking care of both her and her brother’s cats for the past couple years, but now it was just she and hers.
