I've been playing a lot of Caves of Qud recently and wanted to try drawing some characters using both sprite and description as inspiration. Might do more of these in the future.

How long does it take to beat a robot to death? The answer may surprise you.

I originally wanted to turn this one into something more polished, but all my attempts to improve on the sketch somehow made it look worse. So, I guess it's finished! This was a pretty elaborate picture to attempt, considering all my recent output has been rough sketches of single figures, so maybe I should be glad it turned out as well as it did. It's nice to be drawing again anyway, even if I feel like I still have a lot of room for improvement.

I completely forgot to post these here. Since last week was Goblin Week I thought it might be a good excuse to force myself to draw something every day. They're all a little on the rough side since I worked on them during breaks from my paying work and didn't have time to refine them, but it was good practice and I had fun doing it. I'd like to do more stuff like this in the future if I can find the time and energy.

After several months of completely failing to get my shit together enough to draw something, I recently started doing small drawings during down time at work. Nothing really polished or planned out, just trying to keep the artistic part of my brain from completely atrophying. Here are a couple of the less messy ones. I may or may not go back and try to refine them later

Got a little overambitious with this one, so it took a while to finish and I'm still not totally happy with the result. The little BB hiding under the table is probably my favorite part of the whole thing.

The purple one is a bit less polished than I usually try to make these because I abandoned it after having another idea that I liked better. But I still think it looks good enough to share, so here it is. Maybe I should be focusing less on polish anyway. It’d be nice to have more than one or two drawings a month to post.

I hope no one is getting bored with these because I would like to do at least one or two more in this series before I get distracted by something else. I liked how the last one turned out. This one I’m less sure about. I tried to do More this time around and I don’t feel completely satisfied with the result. I have a tendency to keep fiddling with my drawings for so long that I lose the ability to tell whether they’re still any good or not. I also need to work more on my use of color, I’m not at all confident in my abilities in that area. But I don’t completely hate it, and I’m tired of working on it regardless, so here it is.

The Brave Little Toaster, paperback bunko illustrations!

There have been three Japanese editions of Thomas M Disch’s original ‘The Brave Little Toaster’ novella. One was published in the magazine of Sci Fi and Fantasy, there was also this illustrated paperback bunko, and a tankōbon hardcover which used character designs similar to Karen Lee Schmidt’s art from the 1980 Doubleday/Grafton pressing. The artwork in this paperback is especially cute! I love the depiction of the old and new appliances gathered in the city apartment, and the master and mistress meeting the Swap Shop kittens ☺️
