I don't think my children believe I am sympathetic enough to the challenges of holding a job and not owning a car. I didn't own a car until I was 24 and got my first, professional job. 4 years of high school, 4 years of college, and 2 years of grad school. I was pretty much employed throughout and either walked, took the bus, waited patiently for someone else's timing to allow them to come get me, took a cab, or drove my parents around so I could use their car. It's not particularly complicated. Perhaps I have coddled them too much. :-)
