“Say ‘no’ to drugs” is constantly drilled into our heads from elementary all the way through high school, but we aren’t taught about the real pressures we’ll be put under. We aren’t taught how to say “no” to someone regarding sex(especially if they are a significant other), we aren’t taught how to stand up for ourselves, we aren’t taught to be honest and gentle and kind. We aren’t taught how to defend from rape or how not to rape. We aren’t taught that “no” means “no” or about different gender and sexuality orientations. No, we’re taught to say “no” to doing drugs or drinking alcohol when that’s not something that’s a constant battle in our lives. This needs to change.
