omg I’m doing research for one of projects for college, and apparently, girls learn better when they’re in an all girls class, but boys learn even worse when they’re in an all boys class, because all the negative things become even stronger of there are no girls to act as “buffer”
get rid of the boys and let girl learn in peace, i couldn’t care less about them
It’s not our job to be a “buffer”
Separate boys from girls then, they don’t have to be acting like mothers at age 12, if boys ruin the education of others boys, um, idk, fix their behavior maybe?
I work at uni. My program is very competitive. Like you need a 92% or more to get in. We get 10x the applications than we can accept. So. This means our program is 95% female. Simply because girls do better in highschool than boys. Its literally that simple. However. This is a HUGE deal in the administration! Because OMG all those poor boys with less than a 92% can’t get into our program and woe is me, those poor poor boys. Every year we meet to talk about ways to “rectify” this “problem”. One year they’re going to stop inviting me to these meetings. Because I always ask questions like “how do we get boys into the program with lower GPAs without denying girls with higher GPAs? And how is giving boys preferential treatment not sexist?” Keep going good ladies, I’m saving your seat!
This type of thing always happens when women are dominating something, protocols are changed to accommodate and benefit men, and if this strategy isn’t successful the field is devalued.
Keep the good work!
The amount of times I heard my grandfather talk about the ‘feminization’ of schools because he wanted to blame the system for boys under performing (or, more accurately: girls out performing the boys) instead of, ya know, boys’ entitled attitudes and overall piss poor behavior when at school.
When women fail at something: there must be something wrong with women When women succeed at something: there must be something wrong with the system
I think I’ve talked about it before on other posts, but I once had an anthropology class that, completely unintentionally, was all women and one man, and he dropped the course after two weeks. The other section of the same anthropology class, taught by the same professor, was mixed with men and women. So, since it was anthropology, she asked if it was cool if she took notes. She said right away that the all female class had a wildly different vibe, that we spoke and acted differently and had different social expectations of her and the rest of the class, and that we let students complete their thoughts before disagreeing, while the mixed class was highly traditional and almost entirely male dominated because every time a woman spoke, a man jumped in halfway through to “correct” her by saying the same thing. Its a very small sample size, but I think about this a lot
So all those “girls shoulders and knees distract boys from learning” policies…..
In this specific college in the university I went to, the males and females are ranked separately. The administration presented it this way: "We want to get equal numbers of males and females in the program/course. So we rank them separately." One of the older professors eventually told us that they had to do it this way, otherwise, majority of those who will make the cut are females. And apparently nobody wants that, coz y'know, you gotta be "fair". And.... male students have lower grade requirement to enter the course. Coz y'know, you gotta be "fair".
Sho: Oh come on, I wasn't that drunk.
Jun: You tried to color my face with a highlighter because you told me I was important.
@chibimui replied to your post:
Jun’s absolute mortification of Narratage makes me so relieved as well. I still vividly remember Jun in the arena feebly rambling about how Narratage is a “love story but not” and that was when I realized poor guy had no idea wtf he just filmed (by the end of the arena tour I’m guessing he gave up even attempting to explain the movie at all considering Arashi were not buying his BS AT ALL). Bless them.
like, his Narratage look was so good, but it was so clear that he was so grossed out by the experience given that the DAY AFTER IT WRAPPED we immediately had the madness of “I THINK I’M GONNA GO BLONDE [JUST SO I DON’T HAVE TO SEE SENSEI LOOKING BACK AT ME IN THE MIRROR EVERY MORNING WHEN I WAKE UP IN MY QT GLASSES]” - he hasn’t made a full-on hair Mistake in a really, really, really long time and oh wow the blonde streaks were awful and it was definitely all Narratage’s fault.
I feel like of all the arena reports I read (and my show too, which was the last one) it was specifically Sho who kept pouncing on him over and over - was yours like that too? I kept screaming bc per reports I remember there kept being a hilarious REGULAR ARENA MC PATTERN of:
- SHO says something mildly rude but 100% deserved about Narratage - JUN remains silent, won’t engage w him on it - NINO then chimes in and comments on whatever Sho said - JUN shrieks at Nino and tells him to shut up, Nino effectively gets in trouble w Jun for agreeing with Sho’s comment lmao
At mine, it was like:
JUN: IT’S BY DIRECTOR ISAO FROM SEKACHUU SHO: [pretending to mishear] PIKAchuu? So on trend with Pokemon Go. JUN: [no comment] … NINO: [stage-whispers] Sekachuu, getto da ze! JUN: [whirls on Nino] YOU SHUT UP!!!!! SHO: Anyway, it’s a love story, right? AUDIENCE: [WOOOOOOO!] SHO: [absolutely DELIGHTED by this, addresses the audience] Oh my gosh, do you guys all do that in the theater too? Like when things are getting a bit hot and heavy during the movie, please tell me you all just start going WOOOOO! MATSUJUN!!! [to Jun] Are there scenes that are gonna make them go WOOOOOOO in the theater? TELL US MORE JUN: [when is a hole going to open beneath me and swallow me up? wait i’m concert master i just need to find the trapdoor…] SHO: [innocently, as if he’s not purposefully humiliating Jun in front of thousands of fans atop their most sacred stage] Is it going to be, like, you know…? [mimes covering his eyes in pearl-clutching shock at the indecency of the sexual content] OHNO: [chimes in, seemingly completely oblivious as to what he’s participating in] YEAH!! Tell us if we’re gonna be like… [covers his eyes too] JUN: [WHY IS THE FLOOR NOT SWALLOWING ME WHOLE] …uh, well, um, where exactly do you draw the line for needing to cover your eyes…? NINO: [poker-faced] We must ask Leader where that line is. He’ll tell us. OHNO: [begins going through a detailed pantomime] Okay, when he starts holding her hand, then I’m like… [mimes having his hands to his chin, ready to cover his eyes at any second!] EVERYONE ELSE: Whoa, at handholding? So fast! What next? OHNO: Then he leans in and puts his arm around the girl’s shoulder, and then I’m like… [covers his eyes in SCANDAL, then peeks through his fingers in delight] EVERYONE ELSE: Wait, you don’t even get to the kiss? OHNO: Oh, nah, once the kissing starts I’m like!!! [puts his hands down, mimes leaning forward in his seat towards the screen with his eyes wide as to not miss a single detail, face looks like this: !!!!!OwO!!!!!!] JUN: [WHY IS LIGHTNING NOT STRIKING ME DOWN RIGHT HERE] …um. Um. I think the lesson we can take away from this is that everyone has their own line in the sand on what they consider appropriate. OHNO: [seemingly oblivious to why this is different from other projects w love scenes] But there was kissing, right? TELL US EVERYTHING. WHAT WAS IT LIKE?????? JUN: [mortified] There’s kissing and……other things…….yeah……………. OHNO: [pouts, whines] Why won’t you TELL ME about it????
When I went again in December, Jun said he’d been called in to do ADR work on it early in the week, and had requested to just watch the whole movie while he was there. He seemed waaaaay more calm and collected about it, so I think it has to have turned out surprisingly well. Tho I did notice that whenever anyone asks him anything he NEVER EVER TALKS ABOUT HIS OWN EXPERIENCE, OR MENTIONS HIS OWN CHARACTER, he just starts talking like ~oh it’s a coming-of-age story from this girl’s point of view, and it’s really all about her perspective over a period of years as she grows up~
…I’m like, okay, but you do know you’re first-billed, right? This is considered to be YOUR MOVIE, it has YOUR NAME ON IT AT THE TOP, you can’t keep talking like you weren’t even there forever (even if you wish that were true!)
and by the time of that concert his hair was already suddenly darker and he’d begun the process of walking back the highlights - this entire thing is so comical that you can use his hair as an emotional barometer for his level of horror and regret towards this movie, lol. idk I feel such a mix of emotions - sympathy for him, coupled w relief that my fave is grossed out by this…plus I just can’t help a little bit of helpless amusement at how he always takes EVERYTHING HE DOES IN HIS WORK 110% SERIOUSLY no matter how stupid it may be, yet with this movie (while of course he was still professional about it) he finally just clearly hit his internal limit and emotionally noped out of the entire thing. I love him. <3
YES. IT IS ALWAYS SHO INTENTIONALLY SHIT-TALKING THE MOVIE. BLESS HIM. Although when I went they were still stuck trying to flesh out what the hell the movie was even about and I think even Jun was still trying to come to terms with WHAT DID I JUST FILM.
Sho: So… what does Narratage even mean? [In a super fake “I’m genuinely curious” voice]
Jun: [Hesitantly taking the bait] Uh…. reflection (kaisou)… I think????
Sho: [sounding very smug] You mean like seaweed?
Nino: Like wakame seaweed?
Aiba: You’re going to be wakame?
(Arashi continues talking about Jun being seaweed for a ridiculously long time before Jun finally steps in after probably praying to all the gods in the world to lend him strength and show him the light so that he can explain the movie in a way that doesn’t make him want to die in a hole - note: the gods clearly didn’t respond).
Jun: NO. IT IS A LOVE STORY GUYS. A LOVE STORY. [Painfully tries to promote his movie] But uh…. it’s not a happy love story like HanaDan…. Um… it’s really sad… and painful… But it’s also not like Shitsuren Chocolatier which was kind of funny?…… uh… it’s pretty of dark I guess? But it’s about LOVE. [continues to ramble about how it’s a LOVE STORY OK GUYS SRSLY - like he’s trying to convince himself that what he’s saying is 100% legit].
Arashi clearly took pity on him because they were incredibly quiet during his rant. ^^;;
And yes, despite the fact that he nearly spent a good couple MINUTES talking about this movie, he never mentioned his character at all. I didn’t think much of it at first, but I realized now that is actually really weird and must be so jarring to fans in the audience who had never read the book and were probably like “so… wtf were you doing in this movie Jun???”
Although the most recent press releases does have Jun talking more about his experience and character more, but compared to his usual “I tried really hard to express my character and I read the original and really want to show x and y and z and I am SO in to this”, it’s kind of hilarious how subdued he sounds. He flat out says Hayama can’t be understood and then he’s like “depending on the person and the way the movie is edited [Hayama] can be really un-likeable, weak, or selfish”. I mean, usually when you say that you clarify it with a “but”, especially if you’re the ROMANTIC LEAD. But nope. Jun is done.
Also I had a good laugh at his response to reporters asking him about the shower seen in the trailers which was “I was focused on Arimura. I don’t remember what I did”. Clearly, he tried to forget his part in this movie fast.
I feel bad for Jun as well, but I am also very amused at how he’s absolutely noped out of the whole thing. I was initially dreading the promo for this movie, but after seeing his latest responses I’m kind of looking forward to how he’s going to keep talking about this movie without unintentionally going on a rant about how much he clearly detests Hayama.
@chibimui YAAAAAASSSS I READ THE SEAWEED REPORT. and tbh I’m guessing maybe Narratage’s shoot hadn’t even gotten BAD yet? iirc, it was said they shot all the location stuff first and separately, and didn’t do the studio interiors until the very end. so all the love scenes would have been looming in the distance from day one, and he wasn’t able to just get it over with. what psychological torture.
and tbh, considering that Sho’s reaction to his dating rumors with Maki gave off the vibe of “ew, she’s SIX YEARS younger than me, it’s gross anyone would think I’d ever date someone that much of a child, how did this rumor even get STARTED, I would NEVER” I’m kinda not surprised he was giving Jun this much shit for playing against Arimura. I mean, it’s obvious Jun fell into this project, and is just getting through the shoot was punishment enough, and he’s never going to blindly say yes to anything again, but SORRY JUN YOU SIGNED ONTO THIS AND SHO KNOWS YOU NEED TO BE SHAMED VERY PUBLICLY SO YOU DON’T REPEAT THIS MISTAKE AGAIN, HE’S JUST LOOKING OUT FOR YOU
also this is just my impression but I got the feeling like somewhere over the course of the arena tour, Sho either secretly read the book, or he at least wikipedia’d the basic plot outline so he could more effectively bait Jun into traps during the MC, lol
(aside: I am loviiiiing that Sho finally found his chill in the past year for the first time in his entire life. even if Jun clearly doesn’t quite seem to know how to respond yet to this Newer, Chiller Sho)
re: promo - I remember Jun’s go-to soundbyte when talking up the sisterfucking movie was always “well…the cinematography is REALLY beautiful!” With Narratage, I think it’ll even be true, so I fully expect that line to emerge again!
And yes, the lack of his typical effusive comments about the source material and wanting to do right by its longtime fans is really telling - bc you can tell he thinks whoever romanticized this rapey, creepy book needs Jesus. And for goodness sake, he made it clear that he had voluntarily read the Hidakano novel long before the offer ever came, and he unironically loved that stupid book complete with its lack of Hollywood ending (I’M STILL KIND OF BITTER BC HIDAKANO MOVIE WAS HONESTLY GOOD, BUT I WENT IN THERE 100% READY FOR THE BOOK ENDING, READY TO SEE JUN’S CHARACTER LITERALLY GETTING ONBOARD WITH AN INTERSPECIES MARRIAGE UNTIL HIS DYING DAY, AND THEN THE MOVIE WIMPED OUT. COWARDS!!!!!)
I’ve been buried in work the past few weeks (tbh, months…) tho so I haven’t kept up on anything - could you tell me where the new Narratage comments came up? Have they already started presscons for it this early or did he go on morning shows or something?? *w*
@softkakumei Sorry for the slow reply, my internet decided to die for the entire day. Not sure if you ended up finding stuff yourself, but he hasn’t been on any morning shows/TV promos/official press cons yet. The comments were from online articles and magazines like TV Guide/Weekly The TV etc.
The two articles I read online are [here] and [here]. But I also saw some scans from one of the weekly TV magazines and he says pretty much the same things there too. Jun’s go to phrase for this movie seems to be “It’s up to the magic of the editors/directors and viewer interpretation :)”.
Also in the second link, I’m pretty amused at how even Arimura was like “I can’t really agree with this romance…”. Looks like Jun wasn’t the only one who had second thoughts about this movie ^^;;.
worth watching for the end
yo what tHE FUCK ¡
Interesting fact these two are playing but they are using play behaviors of their own species so they dont really “match up”!
Dog - is “bowing” and using open mouth “bites” as forms of play
“Play fight with me!”
Cat - is giving the little paw bats they use when playing with kittens
“Cute kittens get booped!”
They are both trying to engage the other in a playful way but not understanding the others responce.
The dog is like “you smack so no play? but not hard smack and no bad noise so not angry?”
The cat is like “why you jump around? open mouth but no chomp? no hiss so is okay?”
And then they sort of settle with a kind of communal grooming gesture they both understand!
Dog: no play? okay i lay… we calm now friend!
Cat: sad? no play? is ok i luv u weird kitten!
A relationship with no gender roles. We both hustle, we both cook, we both clean, we both pay, we both spoil each other.
