DIY Spell and Potion Book Tutorial from Better After
This is a really good tutorialĀ using plastic toys, a glue gun, cardstock, paper towels etc⦠This DIY is based on a tutorial by SEEING THINGSĀ - my favorite Halloween Blog that had great printables and tutorials and is now DEAD & GONE. This is why if I see a printable I like, I donāt wait until later to download it.
OMG. I have Ideas.
How do you create pins and charms ? Do you use a special site or do you create them yourself ? Sorry if this is already answered or just dumb. Love you and your arts btw *lots of kisses*
hello love! thanks so much! i make my stickers myself, but my charms and pins are manufactured by a factory in china. i use a supplier called vograce that i found on alibaba. there are many companies that go by vograce so you have to contact multiple suppliers and get quotes, and make sure you are not getting scammed, and sometimes they will respond to you and sometimes they wonāt. since i use my supplier often, i contact my rep directly via email, but she does not seem to respond to emails from others requesting quotes. some other suppliers on alibaba that i have heard people use are Jinlei Craft (charms) and Kunshan (pins), but i have never used them and cannot vouch for them.Ā
if you are uncomfortable with the potential risks of alibaba, a lot of pin artists i know on instagram use madebycooper (dot com). they have a lot of cool options that my supplier doesnāt, like colored rubber backings and allowing you to have your logo engraved on the back of the pin to prevent counterfeits. i have also heard people using zap creatives for charms. but i have not used either of these services so i cannot vouch for them!!
the biggest thing you should know about manufacturing charms and pins is that it costs a lot of money. you may think itās cheap to hear $3 per pin, but suppliers often require minimum amount ordered (100 at least, sometimes 50 but this is ridiculously cost ineffective), and just creating the mold for the pin itself is $50. my most recent merch order cost me over $1000, and i had 200 pins, 200+ charms, and 50 washi tape, and shipping from china is another $80. i donāt know about madebycooper, but my supplier requires me to pick Pantone colors for all colors used in my pins. pantone colors donāt have quite as big of a color range, and it can be hard to tell what looks good until you see it in person. thereās also the problem with seconds grade pins. hard enamel pins look the best, but are made by hand and have a lot of potential for error. depending on your design, you may have a handful of messed up pins, or have 40/100 that have errors, that you canāt sell at full price.Ā Ā
i have figured these things out through a lot of trial and error, but i believe knowledge should be free and easily given so i am happy to share what i have learned with others! but i cannot stress enough that you should be realistic about costs and have the money to spare. i work 3+ jobs, so that helps me fund my business expenses. you gotta spend money to make money, but currently i am still $500 in debt to my shop ^^;;
Drawing Clothes Tips byĀ joua.k

@evilwriter37
I read the first sentence and wondered at what point would I need a brush to clean chain mail, before reading further and realizing my brain was in another galaxy, as that was how far off I was in understanding what was happening in this post.
im very grateful for the lessons in photography i was taught in stop motion class because just now they made it possible to photograph the stars with my phone in spite of the camera usually not detecting the light of stars because theyre so dim,,,, enjoy these shiny motherfuckers
ok so if everythings normal, your phone camera should have a manual mode (sometimes called pro mode). in it, change the settings of the shutter lag to 20 seconds, then put the phone down on some stable, plane surface and press the photo button (usually when using your camera, the volume buttons can be used as photo button) and let the phone still for the whole 20 seconds.Ā
(basically the problem with most cameras is that they dont have a very good light sensitivity in the dark, however that doesnt mean they cant detect it at all. the longer the shutter is open, the more light your camera takes in and the more burnt/light your pic will be, so in (literally) dark situations, make the shutter lag longer to get all that light you need! also i said 20 seconds but really you can make it shorter or longer depending on what kinda stuff you want for your stars)
Yes this!
Additionally, adjust your ISO to the highest number (mimics the film used for very low light and low speed images)
And set your shutter speed to the longest time possible (on my phone itās 10 seconds).
Leave your focus settings on Auto, and if your phone camera has a timer option, turn that on (five seconds is generally enough).
Plan your shot first, then find a place to set your phone down so you can get the image you want. The less light pollution, the better; youāll pick up FAR more stars in your picture.
Once you know what you want to shoot, tap your screen to āfocusā it, then hit the button to take the picture, set your phone down, and back away from the ātripodā. Donāt touch your phone for a good 15 seconds, just to be sure.
You will not be disappointed in the results, let me assure you.
Not even a little bit.

THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IāVE EVER LEARNED
Hereās how I do a skin texture. Itās very easy. You donāt need a special brush download.Ā I use CS6 but itāll work in any Photoshop.
First, get a basic round brush. Open up the brush settings window.
Under Brush Tip Shape, increase the spacing:
Turn Transfer on:
Turn Scattering on and adjust if you want:
Now, when you paint on top of skin, use a soft light or overlay layer:
Add a little blur:
Yay now you have pores.Ā
You can use it in reverse with a darker color. Itās an easy way to add naturalistic texture and highlights to skin. You can even layer the effect and do nice subsurface scattering on things like metal or plastic.
Tree Tutorial byĀ ruslankim.art
Was getting some of my images ready to be made into prints today so I thought Iād make a guide for anyone else interested in making prints of their work :D
Do you have any tips for drawing round ladies? :D
Hiya anon!
Well, Iām still learning myself, but hereās a few tips I usually keep in mind!
1.) āFatā is not just a big belly!
Fat distributes everywhere, but not necessarily equally! Like at any weight, every body is different and has an unique shape! Some keep a hourglass shape, some become more pear-like, some are shaped like teardrops or apples⦠but the basic thing is, fat doesnāt just choose one place where it WONāT gather. It may not be as visible in some area compared to another, but in real life, itās reeeeaaaaalllllyyyy rare to just find a person whose fat only stores in their bum, thighs and tits, leaving their waist, arms, neck and etc slim. Keep the body pleasant and thick all around, not just in the places where the weight-gain is the most imminent!
Keep the round shapes in mind!
2.) Rolls! Folds! What are they?
What are they? Not something to be afraid of, thatās for sure!
Basically, donāt hesitate to give your characters fat rolls. Skin folds, stretches and moves along with the body, and so does the fat under it! However, a lot of people who draw rolls tend to give the character many super small ones ā this is not how rolls work! Usually, the thicker the person, the thicker the rolls ā they increase in size, not necessarily in number.
Rolls are the most preminent in places where the body moves the most, AKA the joints. Fat folds over itself and creates creases and ārollsā.
3.) HOWEVERā¦.
(No references here, sorry!!!)
When we age, our skin loses its elasticity and it canāt keep the rolls and folds thick and perky. In our youth, our weight can be held up way better than in our elderly days due to the stength and adaptivity of our skin which disappears as we age. Thus, fat tends to droop lower with older people, and the rolls appear thinner. This can also happen if someone who has had a LOT of weight packed up suddenly losing a big chunk of it ā the skin canāt adapt and will begin to ādroopā down and lower. Make sure to keep such factors in mind when drawing and planning how the weight of your characters should be carried!
And then, a lil tip that;
4.) Study references and real life!
If you yourself pack some weight or have access to internet, libraries or just life on the street, you will see how bodies at different weights and shapes work and move. Use references, see for yourself ā try to find how fat distributes and especially, HOW IT FOLDS! Folds and rolls seem to be one of the biggest problems many have while drawing thicker characters, and thatās ok ā weāre taught as a society that fatrolls are inherently bad and disgusting, therefore there are not many situations where weād find ourselves just⦠staring and studying how the fat in our bodies works and moves. Youāll learn quickly, though!
Iām still learning myself, but especially since every body is different and the weight we pack acts in unique ways, it can be really challenging to find the āabsoluteā right way to draw thicker characters. Donāt give up! Youāll get the hang of it eventually!!
ATTENTION COSPLAYERS:
I would like to make the paint brand āAngelusā known. It is a special paint that is for leather, faux leather, rubber, and similar surfaces.
This is literally the best paint you can buy if you love a pair of shoes, but they arenāt in the right color for your character.
This stuff coats VERY well AND the coats of paint bend with your shoes. This means no cracking!!
In the photos above I took black rain boots and painted them with Angelus Turquoise. As you can see, they donāt look black any more! Itās so good!
I managed to paint two boots with a little one ounce bottle of the paint, and I still have a third of the bottle left over!
The paint dries very fast, so you can put layer on top of layer on top of layer without it streaking.
You can get the paint on Amazon and it comes in every color!
I just really wanted to make this known!! :D This stuff is amazing!
https://angelusdirect.com/collections/paint
Donāt buy Angelus paināt on Amazon, itās like $6.99 an ounce. Buy it direct from their online store the poster above linked, the single ounce bottles are $2.95 there. Also, a little goes a long way, unless you have something HUGE to paint, you can probably do it with a small bottle. I barely dented the one I got doing all the black on this;
Things I wish I had known last year.
THANK YOU!! <3 Iām always very bad in explaining what Iām doing. Cause there is just a lot of trying and painting over it and mashing and mixing colors until I feel itās good. So I tried to show you. I hope this helps!

Good list but Iād like to add a company:
Chillypig Creations is an excellent acrylic and wood charm printer. I actually recently ordered from them and I was super happy with their customer service, quick turnaround, and beautiful printing.
And make a note about one thatās on there:
Acorn Press wasĀ good. I ordered from them and I was very happy with the charms I got despite a somewhat long turnaround time, but they apparently kinda⦠disappeared? Not sure whatās up with them. To be clear, they didĀ fulfill my order, which was made right before they disappeared, but theyāve been AWOL ever since (as of this posting, Feb. 1, 2018).
