About today’s events...

First off, let me say that I love Nicki and will continue to support her music.

BUT, Nicki was saying that she was not throwing shade when clearly she was. This tweet:

What other girls?

I am 300% sure that she was not reffering to Beyonce, since they are good friends, so who else? 

Then, Nicki tweeted this:

Beyonce is known as curvy, and she embraces it (I mean this in a positive way). This is obviously shade at Taylor, since she even stated “slim bodies” and Bad Blood features a lot of models (Karlie Kloss, Gigi Hadid, Martha Hunt, etc.) and others who could be models (Taylor, Zendaya, Jessica Alba, etc.).

2 shady tweets.

Taylor then tweets her and tells her that she should not be saying that one of the other women took her spot, pitting them against each other.

Nicki then avoids the fact that she sent those tweets, telling Taylor that she didn’t shade her (when I believe she did).

Yes, She did retweet something saying that she did not shade, but she obviously did.

Taylor did not want to make enemies with Nicki just because she did not agree with her point. Nicki favorited and tweeted tweets about pulling a Kanye, so Taylor wanted her to know that she did not hate her, and she does not want to stir the pot further, and she tweeted this:

Taylor Swift was wrong in telling Nicki not to pit women against each other. She was wrong in diverting things away from the real issue, which is the fact that black women’s hard work is often overlooked or mocked. Taylor’s feminism is too centered around white women, and that’s a problem that needs to be fixed. And inviting Nicki onstage with her is not going to solve the problem.

BUT

I see tumblr doing the same thing it often does right now. I see people saying that she’s trash, that her work is bad, and basically pointing out every bad thing she has possibly done. TAYLOR SWIFT IS NOT A BAD PERSON. She is still a great role model to a lot of people. The fact that she speaks about feminism so publicly has shown so many young girls that feminism is about equality and probably started them on a path to unlearning their internalized misogyny. 

This is not me unconditionally defending Taylor Swift. She is problematic, and I’ve already said why, but can we please, as a community, not completely disregard the good that she’s done and only focus on the bad. She is still a good person. What we need to do is make her aware of why what she said is wrong so that she can work to be better.
