This Ramadan make sure you’re not breaking your fast with the taste of apartheid. All you need to do is check the label to avoid buying dates from apartheid Israel. This includes dates labelled from Israel, the West Bank and the Jordan Valley or if the country of origin is not shown.
Ramadan is a time of reflection and self-improvement. During this month we are more conscious of our actions and how they affect others.
Israel is the world’s largest producer of Medjoul dates. Let's be conscious of not buying dates that support Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine and apartheid regime.
* Major UK supermarkets like ASDA, Tesco, Iceland and Waitrose all sell dates from apartheid Israel as well as local grocery stores
* The UK is the second-biggest importer of Israeli dates in Europe
50% of Israeli dates are exported to Europe, where the UK, Netherlands, France, Spain and Italy import huge quantities of the dried fruit. In 2020 the UK imported over 3000 tonnes of dates from Israel, worth roughly 7.5 million pounds.
There are two peaks of date consumption in Europe. One is during the month of Ramadan and the other is during New Year’s Eve and Christmas.
Boycotting Israeli dates in Ramadan is a concerted community effort that can show we are not powerless. It would be brilliant to see all Israeli dates still left on shelves across the UK and Europe at the end of the blessed month. This would reflect our strength as a community to stand together with a very important message:
We will not support the oppression of Palestinians and we will not be complicit in Israeli apartheid.
So, this Ramadan #CheckTheLabel and boycott Israeli dates.
With Ramadan approaching, please consider sharing!
If you're in the UK, they also have leaflets available for order on their webpage. These tie into their upcoming campaign #CheckTheLabel, with a national day of action on the 16th of February.
Over 100 killed and 750 wounded after Israeli forces fired at Palestinians collecting food aid in Gaza City.
More than 100 Palestinians have been killed and some 700 others wounded after Israeli troops opened fire on hundreds waiting for food aid southwest of Gaza City, health officials say, as the besieged enclave faces an unprecedented hunger crisis.
The Gaza Ministry of Health said on Thursday that at least 104 people were killed and more than 750 wounded, with the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemning what it said was a cold-blooded “massacre”.
[...] People had congregated at al-Rashid Street, where aid trucks carrying flour were believed to be on the way. Al Jazeera verified footage showing the bodies of dozens of killed and wounded Palestinians being carried onto trucks as no ambulances could reach the area.
“We went to get flour. The Israeli army shot at us. There are many martyrs on the ground and until this moment we are withdrawing them. There is no first aid,” said one witness.
Reporting from the scene, Al Jazeera’s Ismail al-Ghoul said that after opening fire, Israeli tanks advanced and ran over many of the dead and injured bodies. “It is a massacre, on top of the starvation threatening citizens in Gaza,” he said.
The dead and wounded had been taken to four medical centres: al-Shifa, Kamal Adwan, Ahli and the Jordanian hospitals. Ambulances could not reach the area as the roads had been “totally destroyed”, said al-Ghoul.
“The numbers will rise. Hospitals are no longer able to accommodate the huge number of patients because they lack fuel, let alone medicine. Hospitals have also run out of blood.”
Reporting from occupied East Jerusalem, Al Jazeera’s Bernard Smith said the Israeli military “initially tried to pin the blame on the crowd” saying that dozens were hurt as a consequence of being crushed and trampled when aid trucks arrived.
“And then, after some pushing the Israelis went on to say that their troops felt threatened, that hundreds of troops approached their troops in a way they posed a threat to them so they responded by opening fire,” Smith added.
Translation: "Hello guys. how are you? Today we are at Gaza's largest refugee camp located in Rafah, south of the strip. A huge number of refugees fleeing death, fear and destruction. They took refuge here, they were told it is safe to be here, although it's a fact, there is NOWHERE SAFE in Gaza.. We hope war ends soon"
Congratulations to Taylor on announcing the release date for her new album, The Tortured Poets Department. She's already claimed the title of Chairman for herself, so we wonder if she thinks Refaat Alareer, the Palestinian writer who was killed along with his family in an airstrike on December 6th after penning the poem "If I Must Die," which has since been recited by thousands around the globe including Brian Cox, should hold the position of Secretary. As it is documented that Israel is purposefully targeting and killing artists and culture makers including poets, we can certainly imagine who else's torture qualifies them to be part of @taylorswift's department.
Since Disney's decision to donate two million dollars to Israel last October, while notably donating nothing to relief efforts in Gaza despite the ongoing genocide, activists around the world have called to pressure the company into changing their tune. One of the ways people are doing this is by boycotting their streaming service, Disney+.
Disney must be very relieved that they managed to snag The Eras Tour movie, which broke records for most ticket sales in a day when Taylor snubbed Disney and other distributors in favour of collaborating with AMC Theaters directly to release the film, for release on their shunned service.
Disney and Taylor, whose silence on the more than 27,000 massacred in Gaza while her movie played in theaters in Israel has had fans screaming for months, are expecting this move to be rewarded with thousands of streams and new subscriptions.
Let's show her what #SwiftiesforCeasefire actually think. Keep boycotting Disney+. Unsubscribe if you haven't already. And @taylorswift? Make better friends.
Ramadan is coming up and I can’t stress enough how much Palestinians have never got the chance to experience one normal Ramadan for 75years
You may not have been subjected to this, but as a person from an Arabic country, every Ramadan from every year there’s always headlines of Israeli iof soldiers or Israeli extremist settlers attacking Palestinians during Ramadan, especially Palestinian worshipers trying to pray in the al aqsa mosque
It’s happens almost every single year
Ramadan is suppoused to be Muslim people’s month of worship, of Baraka and it is very important to Muslim people
But Palestinians never ever experienced a normal Ramadan because Israel attacks them Viciously
Almost
Every
Single
Fucking
Year
And I will dare and say that Israel does it on purpose, it does it every Ramadan on purpose
And now, this year, with Ramadan being only a few weeks away, I doubt that they’ll have a normal Ramadan, not in the West Bank, and not in Gaza
All what I have to say here is that Israel will still follow this trend, something bad is gonna happen this Ramadan, keep an eye on Palestine during Ramadan
🍉If I must die, let it bring hope. Let it be a tale 🪁

170 hours later and this behemoth project is completed. After being moved to tears three times by Dr. Alareer's poem, I needed to create something. Hopefully this honours his memory.
Hoping to get some funding from local orgs to get this printed into a physical booklet for distribution.
keep up the momentum and pressure! from the PYM/SJP post:
"Now that we know real divestment from genocidal companies is possible, we urge you all to follow suit in creating a domino effect of divestment nationwide. We are watching the ongoing genocide, ethnic cleansing, and military occupation against Palestine unfold before our very eyes. It is our responsibility as a collective liberation movement to do our part in ending monetary complicity within our Zionist universities. The time to take action is NOW!"
Mirna El Helbawi just put out an update — right now the Gaza Esims email only has 500 esims left when they send out more than 3,000 esims daily. If you have not yet sent an E-sim, now is the time to do so.
To send an e-sim, refer to the information at https://gazaesims.com/
