Kat didn’t protest that they wouldn’t get that far. Getting on the other side of four years was their part of the bargain; they had to. “And here you are, talkin’ to me,” they pointed out. They initiated the conversation but they’ll reframe it to look like she’s the intruder. “Are you suggestin’ there’s a correlation?” Come on, their lie was the oldest in the book. Kat often reshaped themselves in conversation, intentions as murky as polluted water, but they didn’t think Mary put actual weight on anything they said. “Get used to it,” they dismissed. “That’s more your thing. Don’t wanna steal your shine.” Kat wrestled down a chuckle when her arms fold, tearing their eyes away to the horde crushing the ballroom, breathing in all the good air. “So not Parker,” they intoned. Fuck that guy. “Christ, Mariko, should’a kept Connor’s yearbook on me.” They shook their head ruefully. Fuck that guy. “Her? No, her.” They shifted aim to some unfortunate randoms. “Gettin’ any warmer? I might need another hint.” Mary didn’t appreciate it but they were humoring her and they already regretted it.
it’s almost a feat, to keep the roll of her eyes under control whenever kat’s near, saying something silly. ❛ of course, i know you love the sound of my voice. ❜ thanks to tigs, she has some endurance throwing that ball back and forth. they want to turn this on her, then she’ll make sure to tease them about it. ❛ you’re right, we don’t want to turn you into a thief now. ❜ she lets it slide, walked right into it, deserved that. it’s stupid of her to think kat won’t bust that door down given the opportunity. sharing is caring, but it’s not the kind of shine she wants to split with her friends. she’ll stain her hands over and over so they can keep theirs clean. but if the sting about her dirty work didn’t show on her face previously, it’s another story when they dare speak cole’s name within her earshot. she hasn’t in weeks. there’s no smile with her words, would come out almost bitter if she didn’t have more self - control. ❛ you’re getting a frostbite. ❜ a single name, and she doesn’t feel like playing anymore. still, it’s kat’s new hint. so far in their half - assed guesses, yet getting a third degree burn literally standing next to her. ❛ do you really not know my date better than that ? ❜ nevermind, game’s over.
PRIYA !
“Then we can do whatever the hell we want,” she whispers with a loving grin and bright gaze, staring back into her perfect brown eyes, drinking in the way Mary’s only looking at her. For so long, all she’d wanted was Mary’s undivided attention, even while she’d done everything in her power in the later months to make the other girl forget her. It had been so foolish, she realizes that now, because for all those months, the only thing on her either of their minds had been the other. Priya knows she one to make mistakes often, and so she’ll try not to beat herself up for it too much, especially because the girl in her arms is doing a good job of helping her see all the good parts about her too. “Alright, alright!” she concedes, knowing there isn’t much she can say no to when it comes to her. She keeps her arms wrapped around her, feeling her waist slip and turn around her hands, and tries not to think about how nice it’ll be to keep running her hands around her body. The side of her face tucked neatly into Mary’s, she can’t help but smile, the gesture growing wider at Mary’s comment. But at the last second, without even thinking, her gaze turns towards her too, eyes much softer than they had been before, feeling herself sober in the stillness of being so close to her, and nothing else in the room matters. “What next?” Priya asks after the camera takes its shot. “How long do you wanna keep this party going?”
this picture might be their first together, and she doesn’t even need to take a look at it after she clicks on the screen to know this will become her favorite. she’ll come to that conclusion later, when the real girl won’t be in her sight. because why look at her picture when she can look at her instead. mary doesn’t get overwhelmed a lot, but there’s something in the way priya is looking at her right now that would make her lose her balance. thank god for the arms around her. and the blonde girl can’t help but kiss priya again. the hunger much, much gentler than what it was only a minute ago, almost chaste in comparison. she makes it linger, her thumb presses the camera again before finally clicking the phone off. ❛ think i can have more than one dance tonight ? ❜ whispers against her lips, maybe it’s a little jab at the weird turn their night in dc ended up taking, and while she would certainly be more than satisfied with a single song, she thinks they deserve a few more. turns back around to face priya, her arms coming up around her girlfriend’s neck, wanting nothing more than to never allow a gap to between them again. takes a small breath at the last question, hopefully her smile keeps her answer from being a mood killer. ❛ not too long, but i won’t ask you to leave at the same time as me, you should have fun the whole night. ❜ she’s still not all that comfortable staying until the end of a gallagher party. but she’ll never ask priya to stop having fun.
TRINITY !
Trinity can count the things she knows about Mary on one hand, and half aren’t fantastic (like the leaked video, and her friendship with a certain headache) but seeing the way Priya spoke about her is enough to start off warm instead of protective. The shot in Mary’s hand definitely helps. “That for lil old me?” Trinity tilts her head, dancing over playfully. “What poison did we pick today?” Has to stop herself from adding “bestie” to the end of it out of habit.
it might not be visible, but there is a weight lifting from her shoulders when she’s met with trinity’s lively attitude. nods eagerly at the question, never losing her grin. ❛ these are lemon drops, so vodka ! honestly, i’m still recovering from the fireball on halloween. ❜ she’s holding a little grudge against cinnamon for the massive headache she had after making a fool out of herself in front of her friends. ❛ no chasers, i think we can handle that ! ❜ no reasonable ideas in sight for the night, apparently.
PRIYA !
“I mean, it is a party, we could be dancing or mingling or taking a million faraway selfies with Beyonce,” Priya laughs, and she’s honestly excited to do any of those things, as long as they’re with Mary. She has so many new experiences to share with her, and it’s almost foreign to her how all of them feel. She’s had flings and partners, but never someone she thought she could give her all to like this, never someone she wanted to spend every day with. Looking at Mary, even with the fleeting time they’ve been together, it already feels like she’s a sure part of her life, someone she’s going to be able to look forward to sticking by her for a long time. “Well, it’s working, Princess,” Priya smirks before slipping a hand along her jaw and drawing her in closer to leave a hungry kiss on her lips again. “We’ve got all the time in the world, though, don’t we?” The smile on her face, even through her tipsy haze, is genuine and hopeful, knowing she’ll gladly come back to Gallagher in the fall if Mary and Trinity will be waiting there for her again.
there’s a satisfied smile forming onto mary’s lips as they more than welcome priya’s once again, happy with herself that what she had been going for is actually having the desired effect. and god, that nickname, she doesn’t think she’ll ever not smile at the sound of it. ❛ we do, so much of it, all of it. ❜ and maybe that’s a reason why they should consider taking it slow, but mary wants none of this. they’ve been way to slow for months, almost too much so that they came scarily close to not having time at all. ❛ come on, you said selfies, i want one with you ! ❜ wants way more than one, but they have to start somewhere ! it takes her one more kiss before pulling away just slightly so she can turn in priya’s arms, her phone quick to come up in front of them. and while normally she would look at the camera, instead she looks up over her shoulder at the most beautiful person in the room, her smile sweet like it used to be in the early weeks of her first year. because that’s how it feels with priya. it feels like she can allow parts of herself to come back to her, the parts she thought she would never be able to reach again, the ones that don’t make her feel guilty to smile and enjoy a moment. ❛ show off your best angles, gorgeous. ❜
NICO !
he hugs her back, long lanky arms wrapping around her and taps her on the back. “ i’ll miss you too, ” he says, finally easing into the hug, resting his head on top of hers. “ i’m sorry for avoiding you. it feels like wasted time now. ”
❛ it’s okay, i would’ve avoided me too in your position. ❜ she understands where he came from, wasn’t confused by it even though she didn’t like it. her cheek is well pressed against his chest, doesn’t want to let go of him. ❛ i’ll call you often, by the way. ❜ he’s one she won’t lose contact with. ❛ where are you going as soon as you’re free ? ❜

there’s a smirk on his lips, proud. “ well, then … ” he takes one of her hands, tugs it a little as he nods towards the doors. “ outside. ” definitely not dancing inside!
❛ next year, i’ll get you on the dance floor. ❜ it’s a promise she’ll make sure to keep. and while she can’t wait to revisit it, she’s quick to come back and enjoy the moment right now, following him outside. places her free hand on his shoulder, lifts the hand she’s holding his with. the song doesn’t exactly call for a slow type of dance, but the conversation does. ❛ i wanted to say thank you, for this year. ❜
KAT !
Their eyeroll is a solid 8.6 on the Richter scale. “Ha-ha, more like she’s really into charity.” Priya’s not deplorable like every other person in this place, so she’s a good match for Mary, in that sense. They make a face at the nose tap — couldn’t help it, couldn’t swat her finger away in time. “Yeah? Heard she didn’t go here,” they lie, folding their arms across their chest. Kat leaned their shoulder against the wall; Gallagher’s spotless and Priya’s rich enough to just buy a new spy school if she’s upset that the suit they borrowed was returned a little dirty. “Oooh, generous, Mariko, but I’ll have to pass. It’s my day off so, no emotional labor.” Take the person out of the minimum wage job, et cetera. “But you could help me strike through some names, we can solve this mystery together.”
❛ for a future spy, you might want to get more reliable sources. ❜ now this is just tragic if they really believed that. but it is kat, so she scans over their expression, knows not to underestimate just how fluidly they can bullshit. the demeanor she observes makes her lift an eyebrow curiously, though the glint in her eyes only reads daring. she wants kat to take the bait, to go along and humor her. ❛ kathik vohra trying to get away from all the dirty work ? groundbreaking. you’re honestly so predictable, you’re no fun tonight. ❜ sighs, her back hitting the wall next to them, mimicking the cross of their arms. ❛ but because i’m a good sport, i’ll help. i heard she’s a second year, so that erases a lot of names from your busy mind. ❜ she doesn’t ruffle their hair even if this is what she wants to do.

“ SO MY SISTERS AND I ARE SPENDING A WEEK OR TWO IN A HOTEL while we get back to the house in arizona, and get that all sorted out. ” maybe bash is babbling a little – blame the alcohol for that – but he wants to make the most of his time left with his best friend while he still can. “ but, you know, once we get the house back and it’s clean and everything… you should come visit. ” bash looks at her a little shyly, because what he wants to say is how DESPERATELY he wants her there, how badly he’s going to miss her. he’s never had a best friend before, let alone two, and now he’s going to have to learn to live without them. “ you’re always welcome there, actually. ” @swiiftbladcs

Priya hasn’t ever let too much of the chaos surrounding Gallagher get to her. She’s always worried about her friends, about the people it truly affects, but she’s also still felt like an outsider looking in. There’s just not a whole lot that could truly rattle her, save for the one girl in her arms right now. Anything she’s ever let bring down her walls has been Mary Sakamoto, and right now, with the girl of her dreams literally in her grasp, she’s unstoppable. And drunk, which is why she feels the freedom to be all over her new, wonderful, sexy, perfect girlfriend. She comes up from the kiss, a devilish grin on her face and arms still around her. “God, sorry, I’m trying to stop myself but you look so incredibly hot in that dress,” Priya breathes. “And maybe I’m making up for all the times I’ve wanted to do that in the past eight months.”
nothing had been scarier this year to mary than those weeks where she thought she was on the verge of losing priya. those weeks where the other girl being out of her reach had made it so unbearable that her thoughts and feelings all came up at once the second she’d finally got a hold of her. a hold she hasn’t let go off since, and doesn’t plan to for as long as she can. and the kiss is far too short. her girlfriend’s lips, inches away, far too distant. she absolutely pouts. ❛ who said you had to stop ? ❜ not her, that’s for sure. probably anyone taking a glance over their way but honestly, mary doesn’t want to pay any attention to anything going on right now, expect for priya. her words are hurried, rushed to counter the apology that certainly has no place here. ❛ you said i should do sinner, so i thought i’d make you want to sin a little . . . we have a lot of time to make up for, ❜ she pushes herself up on her toes, ❛ this is just a little head start. ❜ her lips brush against priya’s the time of a whisper, teasing for a second only to close the gap once more.
CECILIA !
“ MARY. ” the name is hesitant on her lips, as is the way cecilia approaches the other girl, still not sure whether coming up to her is a good decision or not. she’s done her best to avoid her, knowing that the second year was probably going through enough with the betrayal of cole, it was doubtful she had wanted to see cecilia. but she’s leaving tomorrow, and had to get something off her chest. “ you look really nice, ” she offers, testing the water. “ are you here with anyone ? ” @swiiftbladcs
❛ hi, cecilia. ❜ her voice is not as warm as it used to be, but she’s not going to be fake about it, that’s not her. it’s a weird place she’s in. where once cecilia had her trust, it’s safe to say that there is no such thing left. but her brother still has it, and he went above and beyond to help get her out. mary ruined that for him, getting her back. she doesn’t know if it’s the sibling bond or remaining trust, but if he still has that, then maybe she could at least give a try to believe cecilia has no more backstabbing left in her. ❛ thank you, you look beautiful. ❜ that’s no lie, she looks incredible. ❛ yes, i am. ❜ still feels like not giving out too much details, can’t really blame her. ❛ did you come with someone ? ❜

“ well, i– ” he doesn’t really know what to do with his arms, kind of tries to bring them up but he ends up awkwardly holding them slightly open. “ i think you’ll have to walk into me. ”
luckily for nico, mary’s an expert hugger ! and she happily closes the distance to wrap both of her arms around him, finally seeing that there is no bad feelings. ❛ thank you. ❜ she hugs him tight. ❛ i’ll miss you. ❜
