in which Gary Weiss and his wife Michiko chronicle their restoration of the 1884 family Victorian farmhouse, barns and land, in order to preserve them as pieces of the history of Westport and the Mendocino coast of California. June 30, 2018: In less than 6 months, the West garden is almost fully grown in.

June 1, 2018: Our West garden is exploding with Spring color.  It is hard to believe it was planted just 4 1/2 months ago.  Things grow fast in Westport!  One of the interesting things landscape architect Gary Ratway has done here is to plant right in and between the stairs, leading to a beautiful overgrown look that we love.  We expect this garden to be fully grown in by early Fall.

June 1, 2018:  Our East garden is coming into form, with Eloy and Yeri working hard.  What you see being put in is a clever deer barrier designed by landscape architect Gary Ratway.  Once that is installed, we will plant vegetables and flowers inside the protected areas.

April 23 2018: We’ve now planted 1/2  of our South slope, and the rest of the South garden plants are going in this week!  There will soon be big blue hydrangeas flanking the entryway of the house.

Our 1904 organ plays again, and it sounds beautiful!  It now plays manually or electronically.  Spencer Brewer from Potter Valley, a genius with antique organs, fixed it for us! Check out harmonygaits.com for examples of his artistry!
