♚————Jumin seemed surprised by the sudden gesture from Zen. He carefully took the bottle of wine and looked over the label for a moment. Of course, it was a rather no-name brand and of a much lower quality than he was used to. However… For a commoners label, this was a rather expensive wine. It would seem that Zen had probably spent quite a bit of what little he had just to purchase this.         “This sort of gesture is unlike you.” Jumin paused for a moment, seeming to think over his words carefully. “…Thank you, Hyun. Would you like to share a glass of this with me?”

He’d been braced for an insult, from something so blatant as a ‘this is too cheap for my tastes’ comment to the subtlety of a disdainful look. Zen’s second gift to Jumin had been the resolve to not make an issue of it-- to let the insult roll over him unacknowledged and move on with his life, knowing he had done his best.

But the biting remark never came. Under Jumin’s carefully appraising eye, the gift was deemed... if not impressive, perhaps satisfactory. And rather than being put aside to ignore, maybe to save for some rich guest Jumin wanted to insult, he offered to share it... “I’m more of a beer guy myself.” The words were out of Zen’s mouth before he’d considered it, an instinctual refusal to save potential pride.

But after a beat of silence, he gave a small sigh. “So it would be nice to try a good wine for once. Thank you.”

💵 "Zen. I have something here for you." Jumin reached into his pocket and produced a wad of fresh bills, neatly folded and clipped together with a gold clip. "I late Christmas present. I was unsure what to get you otherwise. This way, you can buy yourself whatever it is you want or need."

It was stupid of him to expect any different, any better than a direct slap to the face. He hadn’t expected (or wanted) a gift at all, would have been considerably happier if Jumin had just let the holiday pass without thinking of Zen at all. When the bills were produced from Jumin’s pocket, Zen had but a split second to beg whatever deity was listening that this wasn’t what it looked like.

He felt his hands form into fists before he knew it, anger bubbling dangerously. As if offering Zen undeserved work wasn’t bad enough– Jumin had now resorted to literal handouts, as if to hammer home the insult intended. There were about a hundred nasty names he wanted to call this silver spoon fuck right now, but in his frustration, the (im)proper words escaped him. He threw his hands up in defeat, and turned to storm away, gift untouched. “God, Jumin, you’re such an asshole!!”
