My partner and I haven't had our own tree in ten years so I'm very happy we managed to pull this off. Our living room smells like a fir tree! There are pretty lights! And we can finally unpack all our fun Christmas ornaments and hang them all up
I hope Brendan Fraser is having a nice day.
I hope one day that Brendan Fraser gets to see this post with several thousand (one day perhaps several hundred thousand?) people who have all banded together, united for one single common purpose: to hope that he is having a nice day.
Had a nice tempeh and veggie stir fry with baked delicata over rice. Easy week night dinner
Have a pair of tea times
Sometimes you don't even have the energy to make a sandwich.
I'm made chicken stock! This double batch was the Monday before Thanksgiving.
A very dear friend of mine just had their long distance partner move in. New partner is allergic to onions and I know my friend loves to cook so I thought a big batch of onionless stock would make a nice housewarming gift.
Behold! I made so much stock! (And gave away most of it)
After a ton of planning and work, we have our fancy spice rack! My father in law loves projects and when I asked for a shelf to hold spices he told me to make it interesting. I'm so happy to have all that counter space clear now!
And this little owl shaped salt shaker fits perfectly!
Thanksgiving so exhausted me I stopped updating this blog for a bit but I'm back at it!
Went to Dough Joy today. So many people tout various vegan products as just like the real thing but I can always tell. Not with Dough Joy. Genuine witchcraft happening at this place.
We got the cinny roll, the Bavarian cream, the chocoholic, and the blackberry hazelnut. Gotta get four because otherwise they bag them and the frosting sticks to the bags.
Trying some new teas with our donuts today!
I went to Geek Girl Con on Saturday and there was a tea seller there with several interesting blends. I got one called hearthfire.
Genuinely smells and like a campfire with a lot of conifer wood being used, but I think I didn't use enough of the tea as the flavor was very mild. I will try to use more next time!
It was owner discount day at our local co-op so my partner snagged a box of pure hibiscus tea to try.
Farmers market bao for breakfast today, along with a cup of hot cider. I like to buy the cider first and then carry it around the market to warm my hands as I shop.
SOUP
My mom is still visiting so it's soup for three! You can tell which bowl is hers because she doesn't eat much.
It's chicken, potato, leek, cabbage, carrot, and shitaki mushrooms. I am now out of chicken stock except for the little cubes so it looks like I need to make more in the next couple weeks.
I don't really like handling raw chicken so I chucked the breasts in whole and boiled them through and then cut them into bites. The bread is from the same French bakery as the macarons from the previous post, just a basic sourdough.
Tea time for five today! All snacks you've seen before, except we also had...
Macarons from a local French bakery!
Two for each of us, all in different flavors! Blood orange, raspberry, strawberry, coconut, lavender, Earl grey, lemon, passion fruit, pumpkin, and cassis.
Lol I totally didn't see the very top shelf until looking at these photos.
Sword's Perfect Baked Salmon
• Preheat oven to 425° f
• Thoroughly pat salmon dry & allow to come up to room temp
• Brush generously with olive oil and cover in spice mix.
• Bake on a lined baking sheet until internal temp reaches 145° (or 135 for rare), about 20 minutes
• Take out & squeeze all over with lime juice & sprinkle with fresh fennel leaf
• Let rest 5-10 minutes and serve
Fennel Lime Salmon Spice Mix (serves 2)
1 tablespoon fennel seeds, fresh ground and sifted
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ginger powder
1 dash MSG
1 dash chili powder, ceyenne, or similar
Black pepper to taste (be generous!)
The zest of 1 lime.
You can sub whatever spices you prefer, swap out the lime for other citrus, the fennel for other herbs. But the technique is one that gets me good results every time.
Made a big beautiful salmon dinner for five today. Fennel Lime Salmon with roasted fennel, carrots and peppers and wild rice pilaf.
My fennel lime salmon recipe fucks. It's so good I am a food genius.
Tea for three while my mom is staying with us! Tried some of the SakuraCo snacks with a couple of Newman-Os.
