Something felt off. Don’t say anything, though. That would make things worse.

“I do worry sometimes these things can get a little intense, I mean no harm. Is there any way I can make this up to you? I wish only for your happiness.” An odd thing to say, Sinbad.

Regardless, he was being cautious for the simple fact that he was facing an unknown feeling, one he didn’t want to bring attention to even in the slightest.

A soft laugh slipped past her lips, and the Kou empress shook her head lightly. He wished for her happiness? Please, as if she was going to believe that lie again. Fool her once, shame on her. He wasn’t going to fool her again. Nor was she going to sacrifice her people for his ego, not when she could hopefully withstand any ploy of his now.

“I’m an empress now, my lord. If I cannot handle a little intensity, that would be a bad thing for my people, wouldn’t you say?” A hint of arrogance crept into her smile, and she held her head high. Nothing he hadn’t seen in her before, back when they had first met. “Besides, if there’s one thing about the Kou that you should know, it’s that we don’t break easily.”

She was ruler over a nation of warriors, and while this new war was unfamiliar, Kougyoku was determined to come out on top.

Well, she really wasn’t going to budge was she. Nevermind, he’d have to let her have her way for now. He didn’t actually expect her to be this stubborn.

Though with that ever brilliant smile and calm exterior he’d reply. “As you wish, Princess.” So obedient. Whatever kept her happy at the end of the day, he hadn’t wanted to sour her mood either. “I hope these talks haven’t made your time here any less enjoyable.”

That smile. How many times had she fallen right into his plans when he gave her that smile. The very thought sickened Kougyoku, a constant reminder of how weak she had been in the past. This man had taken her trust, and corrupted her very mind, and it had changed her. Too bad he didn’t realize it.

Too bad for him.

”Oh, of course not,” the empress reassured him, forcing an innocent smile onto pink lips. Until he realized just what she had become, she would play this role, see how far it would take her. “It’s always a joy to speak with you.”
