Firstly, Ruination of Lucifer is one of the best fanfics I’ve ever read. I was completely invested in the relationship, and the way you write is absolutely astounding. You can really tell that writing is something you’re passionate about, so thank you for sharing such a work of art with us!
Secondly, I was wondering if there are any books or writing techniques you’d recommend for someone who is pretty trash at writing but wants to improve. I know getting to your level would take years, but I’d love to at least become a little above trash, if possible. Y’know what I mean?!
Thank you in advance!
Ahh, that really warms my heart, you're very kind! I am so glad you've enjoyed the story, it was a big labor of love, and I am humbled and grateful that it's had such a warm reception across the board. As for writing technique and books, I'm afraid to say I have nothing in particular to recommend. Any writing technique I have was honed through experience. I find that one gets better just by reading good literature. It inspires, plus gives one good turns of phrase that you can absorb by osmosis. Steal from the best, as they say! I admit I cheat slightly by using my acting experience, it gives me a decent feeling for dialogue, but there's piece of advice that's stuck with me - don't explicitly say 'I love you' or 'I hate you', it can all be inferred through subtext. Have a character demonstrate what they're feeling through action. That advice has served me well. Another piece of advice I think really works is - the bigger the theme, such as, let's say war - the smaller you go in describing it. So, you wouldn't write about a bloody battle - you'd have someone pass by rubble and pick up a bloody children's shoe, or some small object that tells a whole story all on its own - of a people displaced, the tragedy of it personal and yet inferred. Something along those lines! Sorry I wasn't of more help in practical terms, but thank you for the lovely question! :)
