Abuse

It says, “I love you, that’s why you shouldn’t see your family. I’ll protect you.” It sounds like slamming doors and shattered glass. It tastes like piss cheap beer used to wash away the unwanted taste in your mouth. It feels like his sweaty chest constraining you against the bed when you tried to get up. It looks like dark empty eyes. It says, “I’m sorry. I’ll never do it again. I can’t live without you.” It sounds like ear piercing screams of loss and confusion. It tastes like a burning fire in your lungs as you inhale deeper in order to deeper escape what feels like a nightmare. It feels like violent involuntary contractions as you try to collect yourself. It looks like love, but feels like shame and guilt. It says, “That didn’t happen. You’re losing your mind!” It sounds like the same blaring beats of that song used to drown out your concerns. It tastes like the cheap food you eat because you don’t know where your money keeps disappearing to. It feels like freezing cold nights as you lay on the floor of this shack, wondering why you can’t get a place of your own. It looks like a fading tunnel as the hands you thought you trusted further tightens around your neck.

It is salvation when your friend finally tells you enough and never takes you back.
