"The Sandman" by Salvador Dali.
Cinema is a language. It can say things-big, abstract things. And I love that about it. I’m not always good with words. Some people are poets and have a beautiful way of saying things with words. But cinema is its own language. And with it you can say so many things, because you’ve got time and sequences. You’ve got dialogue. You’ve got music. You’ve got sound effects. You have so many tools. And you can express a feeling and a thought that can’t be conveyed any other way. Its a magical medium. For me, it’s so beautiful to think about these pictures and sounds flowing together in time and in sequence, making something that can be done only through cinema. Its not just words or music-it’s a whole range of elements coming together and making something that didn’t exist before. It’s telling stories. It’s devising a world, an experience, that people cannot have unless they see that film. When I catch an idea for a film, I fall in love with the way cinema can express it. I like a story that holds abstractions, and that’s what cinema can do.

Minimum wage should be linked to the poverty level.
This is basic economic fact.
A business that claims it can’t afford to pay a living wage to its workers is admitting that by definition it fails to meet its basic operating expenses. That major multinational corporations can be “successful” while failing to meet a basic operating expense is only possible because We The People pick up their greedy/lazy slack through taxes and charity.
And yet somehow it’s everybody else who’s a moocher and a looter…
And this corrosive greed is a big part of what’s slowly poisoning the U.S. economy. Money being hoarded at the top and put in “safe” investments and bank accounts is money that does nothing for no one. It’s just an elaborate means of keeping score. Money put into the hands of the workers does what money is meant to do: it circulates. It gets spent. The same dollar will go through dozens of sets of hands, touching dozens of lives, feeding dozens of people and sparking profits for dozens of businesses. The same dollar, in the hands of the rich, will generally do… nothing. It won’t create jobs. It won’t fund innovations. It won’t start businesses.
Less than 1% of corporate revenues become wages for workers. Less than 3% of the wealthy are actually entrepreneurs (people who risk their money on business ventures that create jobs).
But 100% of the working class spends their money. That money creates jobs. That money fuels innovations. That money becomes profits. That money keeps the economy ticking.
We have been lied to about who are the parasites and who are the drivers of the economy. We have largely accepted a view of money as a means of keeping score and the economy as something that must have winners and losers, rather than money being a proxy for barter and an economy being a way to divide the labor of society and distribute the load of living
This is capitalism. Hoarding money for a few at the top, while those at the bottom struggle to feed and house themselves and the middle is manipulated to think that problems in the economy are the fault of people who don’t have any power, any influence or any wealth.
When you say your a feminist…I hope you really know what that means. It means standing up for women of color. Standing by black women who must deal with being referred to as welfare queens or ratchet. Being a feminist is standing beside immigrant women who deal with wage theft, unsafe working conditions, and being referred to as leaving anchor babies in America. It means standing beside Native American women who face domestic violence and rape at unprecedented rates. It means standing beside Muslim women who choose to live out their faith and face Islamaphobia, sexism and ignorance constantly. It means standing beside Asian women who have been misrepresented in the media to be thought of as only submissive and quiet. Please recognize that feminism impacts the lives of every single one of these groups…but we are all women

" Don’t be afraid Open your mouth and say Say what your soul sings to you
Your mind can never change Unless you ask it to Lovingly re-arrange The thoughts that make you blue The things that bring you down Only do harm to you And so make your choice joy The joy belongs to you
And when you do You’ll find the one you love is you You’ll find you Love you “

The Clash helps some of their fans to sneak in before a concert.
I love this so much. Like how stoked would you be if a band you loved helped you sneak into a big show of theirs?
I’ve heard this story before and love that they did this. Stop me if you heard this other one: The Ramones were playing in England and before the show they were hanging out in the dressing room when someone tossed a stone at the window. They looked out to see some young punks who wanted to get into the show but didn’t have money for tickets. The Ramones reached down and pulled the guys up and got them in. Those young punks without tickets were to become The Clash. Good to hear they kept it going.
