Supergirl (2026), directed by Craig Gillespie and starring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl with Eve Ridley and Jason Momoa. My regular movie date @artildawn already gave his review but I wanted to throw in my 2 cents.
I liked it. In fact, I enjoyed it more than the previous DC movie, Superman. In all fairness, that movie had a lot of work to do establishing a new universe, balancing multiple characters, building relationships, and making us like David Corenswet as Superman, which I think it did pretty well.
Supergirl doesn't have to do any of that. The movie doesn't even try to make you like Milly Alcock as Supergirl and that's part of what makes me like the movie so much. Supergirl/Kara is messy, complicated, and unconcerned with what people think about her and she felt like the most "real" character in a superhero movie outside of the MCU. Her godlike powers aside, I could relate to her struggles with apathy, loss, and grief and I found it endearing.
There's a line in the movie from Supergirl's mom Allura telling her the importance of being kind but not having to be nice and to do good when she can. I heard that before from writer Kelly Sue DeConnick in regards to her daughter and it's one that I have tried to impress upon my own daughter. There is a big difference between being kind and being nice. Kindness takes strength of character. Being nice often requires you to make yourself smaller, to make yourself lesser, to allow others to step over you. Boys don't tend to be taught that. Only girls are expected to be "nice".
This alone made me like the movie. All the action and spectacle was just icing on the cake. A bunch of weiners will hate the movie without understanding the basic message and that's sadly in line with the zeitgeist now.
I should address the 800 lb Lobo in the room. Jason Momoa does a good job as the popular space biker/bounty hunter. I think he was unnecessary and could have been edited out without affecting the plot but I know if a movie about a female hero doesn't have at least one male lead character men's genitals might shrivel up and fall off, so he's gotta be there.
I give Supergirl 4 out of 5 stars

It's hard to find love out there. I can't blame the guy for going for mythological women.
