There is this word in Chinese.

精密 JingMi

The English translation is “precise”

But that definition really falls short.

It DOES mean precise…. but in a somewhat reverent and mysterious way.

JingMi is opening up the back of a centuries old pocket watch and partaking in the secret world of well-oiled gears and cogs, polished to miniature perfection by a nameless craftsman generations ago, without the benefit of modern tools.

JingMi is the structure of the eye, bending, absorbing, and redirecting light in a mysterious miracle of physics and flesh. Light bent, refracted and manipulated by millions of years of death-honed perfection, in a system efficient and endlessly complex.

It’s THAT kind of precision…. It’s appreciating the exquisite synchrony of a world hidden in an everyday object, be it the polished inner spring of handmade pocket watch or the delicate system of airsacs in the body of a bird.

It’s not the precision of a winning dart throw…. it’s awe inspired silence when faced with a great mysterious precision, and understanding the full weight of what it took to get there.

I cant really think of an English word that encompasses this feeling. But it describes Anatomy to a T.

Spectacular “black” fluorite under white light and then back-lit to show its true color: the richest purple I’ve ever seen on fluorite! Most of the crystal is too dense to let light pass through giving it its seemingly black color.

*Rock fact* What is black fluorite?

There is no “true black” fluorite. Black is used to describe specimens that are super dark and appear to be black in normal lighting. The true color of these specimens are commonly purple and rarely blue and are only seen when back-lit. Please note that natural specimens that are dubbed “black” are VERY rare! The darkness is caused by exposure to radiation during the crystal’s growth. The radiation levels do not make these specimens unsafe to handle; just makes them look super cool! Like all colored fluorite, black specimens are vulnerable to sun-bleaching/fading. Keep them away from sunlight if you want to preserve their rare beauty!
