Living in a Shell - Nautilus House

This amazing house was build in 2006 by Arquitectura Orgánica. A young couple with two children from Mexico City who after living in a conventional home wanted to change to one integrated to nature. The goal of this project was to make it feel like an internal inhabitant of a snail, like a mollusk moving from one chamber to another, like a symbiotic dweller of a huge fossil maternal cloister.

Áron Jancsó 1986 - 2015

Last year the typography world lost a number of its legends including Hermann Zapf, Adrian Frutiger and Bram de Does. Yesterday I discovered, with great sadness, that Áron Jancsó, an incredible young typographer also passed away.

Although many will be less familiar with Áron’s work, before the age of 30 he had published five innovative typefaces and produced an expansive portfolio of exceptional artwork. His departure from the design community before fulfilling his potential is a great loss and it will leave a chasm of unexplored typography.

Áron died suddenly in September in a cycle collision while riding in the outskirts of his home city of Budapest. His work had a strong influence on my own typographic endeavours. Just a few weeks after setting up this blog in 2011 I had already shared some of his Áron’s characteristic lettering and we had exchanged a few lines on email. Back then was just 25 years old but his work had already made a lasting impression on me.

In his online profiles, Áron describes how he preferred to design everything from scratch. If it was a poster then he would design the type himself. His love for calligraphy, street art and oriental design infuses the work and he focused on bold typographic structures rather than extraneous effects.

Áron possessed a unique vision of how type could be moulded and composed. His typeface specimens, produced as posters, are among some of my favourite typographic designs of all time. Much of his work was experimental yet the results were invariably elegant and eye catching.

Áron left us with an array of superlative images and a collection of inspired typefaces, published by Gestalten.

The Beauty of Architectural Symmetry

The human mind has an innate ability to pick out patterns in the environment. It revels in finding symmetry in architecture and nature. Even in nature, consistent uniform shapes appeal to the eye. The Instagram account SymmetricalMonsters is responsible for serving the best photography, which showcases the beauty in architectural symmetry.

The photographer caters to the ancient ideal of beauty demonstrated in the Old World. The Greek and Roman empire, the Renaissance period and the Middle Eastern kingdom is heavily influenced by geometric and symmetrical designs.

These pictures have been taken across various locations - from crowded apartment complexes, underground stations, climbing escalators in shopping centers to tunnels, towering skyscrapers and traffic-clogged streets. The stunning skyscrapers and modern marvels subconsciously provide order and balance to the bustling of the city streets.

A képek tegnap készültek, de a felhívás, az irónia része.

A sztori a következő: Tegnap reggel vártam a buszra, nincs jegyem, veszek. Ott az automata. Király. Megnyomogatom a cuccokat, 350 Ft. a jegy, dobok bele kettő darab kétszázast. Várok az áldásra. Kijött a jegy. Hol az 50 forintom?

Már majdnem szétrúgtam a gépet, majd belenéztem. Ott volt a műanyag fecni. Óóóó, a picsába, mekkora balek vagyok, ha most szaladtam volna a buszhoz, akkor oda is adtam volna a pénzem a csalóknak. Szóval, szépen elkezdtem kihalászni a műanyagot, majd potyog a pénz.

A kezembe landolt az előző átbaszottak pénze.

Ez a sztori csak arra jó, hogy figyelmeztetek mindenkit arra, ha nem ad ott vissza a gép, akkor nézzetek bele!
