Hey guys, with so much love, and as someone with an actual English degree:

Please just use Sparknotes if you're going to do this. I get it. I do. But chatgpt or other genAI shit doesn't actually know what's important for you to know, and in some cases it might fully make shit up. Use sparknotes. Failing that, talk to someone who did read it. I'm begging.

For someone who uses chatgpt and other generative ai frequently as an academic librarian (to study it before you jump the gun, i need to learn how they work if I'm gonna catch a plagiarizing student or even professor), i do NOT recommend you to use ANY generative AI. They have a phenomenon called "hallucinating" which happens when they don't know an answer and instead of saying: "I don't know" they make up the answer, which is 99,9% bullshit. I get it that it's hard to read soooo many books, I KNOW, I work at an Economics University, I've SEEN Samuelson's books! It's murder material! But please, don't use AI... in the long run you're just kicking yourself in the butt.

Also, I have SOOOO MANY stories how students get caught for using AI to write their thesis and about professors and academic professionals who use chatGPT to summerize a thesis or a paper to make grading easier or straight up write their own academic articles...

For the love of god, stop with the AI bullshit!
