I have been working on a new Maomao cosplay. This is the Moon Fairy Assistant outfit. I used a mixture of polyester fabrics. The first layer is a chemise in a purple and box pleated tied skirt in a blue fabric from the Badgley Mischka. I got this fabric a long time ago before JoAnn Fabrics went out of business. Added a decorative stitch to the chemise along with some beads. The second top is in the Purple Haze Minerva fabric with the collar being in Purple Night Minerva fabric. I decided a long time ago for this project, that I wanted to add some embroidery and texture not seen in the manga or anime to give it some magic. So for the sleeves of this second top I machine embroidered a vine flower design with a crescent moon. To make it stand out a little more, I learned that adding a fancy cellophane and spacing out the satin stitch in the machine will give a cool shimmer effect. To add to it I decided to hand bead the sleeve as well.
The pink skirt is made with box pleats and is tied at the front. I then went in with a marker to curve it out. I once again decided some creative liberties and added a beautiful pink lace that I then went in and added pink hotfex rhinestones. I usually try to avoid top stitches, so instead of a simple straight top stitch on the pink skirt, I used my Viking Epic One machine to do a decorative stitching design similar to what I did for the chemise top.
Lastly, the part that took the longest was the belt. I made the belt the way I normally do for these outfit. However, like with Lady Lihua, I added a pink box pleated fabric to give the illusion the skirt goes higher up. Then at the last minute, I decided to add some hand embroidery to it including some goldwork leaves and 3D beaded flowers. I thought it
helps ties in all the embroidery up to to the belt and the pink beads in the flowers match the skirt.
I am currently now working on my prop and the shoes for the cosplay. I never made shoes before, but I have a back up pair in case I fail. lol
