Some of you may have noticed the subtle changes to my bio and feed recently and been thinking, 'hey what’s up with that’? Read on for some amazing news. Some of you are aware that over the past few years I’ve had some injuries which have hindered my ability to physically push the boundaries of custom furniture design. With the cutting off of a thumb and back surgery I can’t do what I use to do, as often as I was doing it and as frequently as I’d like to do it. Outside of woodworking I’ve always been a tech guy, a maker, a tinkerer, a gadget guy, an industrial designer, a thought leader. The merging of the varied skills and disciplines is something that I’ve wanted to do for a long time but never really landed on a way of doing it effectively. That was until now. In a few weeks time I will be launching the re-branding of TFX. A new and exciting master brand that will allow my wife and I to reach into other domains and combine our vast skill sets in ways we couldn’t have done with the focus of ‘furniture designer and maker’. The master brand will enable the release of our own products and in time allow for unique partnerships and collaborations to flourish. We will be focussed on product development for our ourselves and work as thought leaders/enablers for the commercialisation of other peoples ideas. As you would have seen recently in the partnership work with Architects and Bike Fitting specialists. Our material selection will be extended beyond wood to things like plastics, carbon fibre, metals, composites and more. We will still push for our work to be as eco friendly, sustainable and accountable as possible - e.g. our plastic items are mostly organic based, GM free and recyclable/hot compostable. "But what about the badass tables and woodwork you do?" That work will continue but won't be our primary focus. We will do that work on a commission basis to ensure we have the time to properly collaborate with our clients. We hope you stick with us as we make the transition and continue to enjoy the content we create. Thanks, Mark and Caren.
