I LIIIIIIIVEEEE!!!!! Whelp. I have not been doing what I have said I would do (finishing up my gargantuan Mako x Haru fic), but that’s hardly surprising. The good news is that I have proofed the first 80% of it twice and I just need to force myself to get through that last 20%, run it through spell/grammar check, and then ship it before it breaks. At least it seems KyoAni has been able to release Free! -Road to the World- Yume. I’m unclear on if it’ll get a license here. It should. But if not, I guess I’ll pick up the Japanese disc at some point. In the meantime, I’ve gotten myself embroiled with another project that I should’ve known better than to even tackle, but of course, I couldn’t help it. I bought the Given Japanese Blu-rays since there is no R1 license for the series (whyyyyyyy), and have decided to create English srt (subtitle) files for the series. First things first, after ripping all the blu-rays, I spent some of yesterday re-translating the tv-sized OP and ED themes, because I didn’t like the translations I saw online of either. In some places, what was out there missed a lot of subtlety, and in others places was just out-right wrong. Well, I can’t say that I am an expert, but I do prefer my translations to be properly adapted since Japanese does not translate to English easily in many cases, especially when you’re trying to be poetic (as in song lyrics). You lose a lot of meaning if a translation isn’t properly adapted. ~_~ Given OP - Kizuato - This song is a plea from Mafuyu to Yuki to stop tormenting him. It’s really sad once you understand the lyrics, since the song style doesn’t really reflect this dour tone as much. Link to srt file. Given ED - Marutsuke - This song is about how Mafuyu is becoming hopeful about his new feelings for Ritsuka. There is a compelling balance between the OP being about the ex-bf and the ED being about the new bf. I like it. You can tell they put effort into everything here.  Link to srt file. Another interesting note: There are two versions of the Given OP animation. Episodes 1-8 has the first, and episodes 9-11 has the second. There is a VERY subtle difference and it took me a few watch-throughs before I could figure out what it was (pics). Anyway, hopefully someone can make use of these OP/ED srt files. Eventually, assuming I complete this project, I will upload the srt files for the episodes as well.

Mako x Haru Special Talk from Season 3 DVD set (region 1).

Finally, Free! Season 3 on Blu-ray. The insert art is so hilariously not even subtle any more. Sousuke in particular, his pose is so comically inappropriate for his character all I could do was laugh. Anyway, also acquired two Japanese CDs from Given. CD on the left has 冬のはなし (“Fuyu no Hanashi”), the big climax song from episode 9 (as well as the Mafuyu version of the ED), and CD on the right has “session”, the mathrock jam session song from episode 1 (as well as the OP and ED by Centimillimental). I still have to finish 2nd pass thru endless!fic for Free (fic info here), although I’m on the home stretch for it. I want to do one more full read-thru/editing-pass before posting it somewhere, so it’ll probably end up being around February I’d guess, given my level of distraction and general laziness. ^_^;;; Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, everyone!

I Liiiiiiiiiii~ve!!! Also, Progressssssssss! I have done a good, quality editing pass on the monstrous MakoHaru fic that currently sits at a healthy 71,918 words. I was actually able to keep from bloating it too much, thank god (usually my editing ends up increasing the length somehow). Anyway, this editing pass took a while because had to add two new scenes at the beginning because the old first chapter was just having to do way too much legwork of establishing the characters and setting (time, location, etc) while also primarily advancing the romance plot between the two protags. With the two new scenes, I was able to move a good chunk of the establishment work out of that scene and instead let the scene focus solely on the relationship-building. In the end, it turned out even better because I was also able to bring in most of the cast at the beginning, and in addition, was able to change things so that the (new) first scene almost exactly mirrors the final scene of the fic for some good, artsy balance (in my gay anime smut-fic). The bad news is I’ve identified a minor sub-plot that I need to go back and remove completely from all scenes where it appears, since I never went anywhere with it. Leaving it would only pointlessly bloat the fic length for no payoff. Once these parts are removed and the surrounding text rewritten to flow past them seamlessly, I’ll do a final editing pass and then upload the fic somewhere. Where do people upload anime BL smut fanfic these days anyway? I welcome suggestions! Fic info (here)

I can’t believe I’m finally saying this, but the first draft of my monstrous Mako x Haru fanfic is done. It is currently sitting just shy of 71,000 words. Also, because I was really running out of steam towards the end there, I started writing increasingly insane things into it. I’m sorry. Heh. I not sure how I feel about how this turned out, tbh. But whatever, it is what it is at this point. 70k words is far too gone to change anything major at this point. Anyway, now that it’s finally “done”, I can do some amount of editing passes on it (likely 3), and post it somewhere for people to rage about online, LOL. Editing should go way faster, since I’m looking forward to rereads of it. INFO: - Working Title: Unfinished Business - R18 (don’t you know it!) - Makoto X Haruka - Rei x Nagisa - Uh.... when I started going insane towards the end, I ended up writing: - Gou x Rin (er...) - Rin x Gou x Sousuke (uh....) - Sousuke x Rin x Albert (idk, shut up!) - Warnings: 3P, Incest, way too much smut, way too much moosh, comedy and silliness, original characters (but only used to support the main cast). Everything in this is consensual. Setting: - Begins at the end of season 2 - Rewrites some things from Take Your Marks - Covers time in parallel with season 3 (s3 happens in the background) - Ends in the future, long after the end of season 3 - Some of the cast from season 3 are ignored (Ikuya, Natsuya and company - sorry, I had to draw the line somewhere on the increasingly large cast) - Asahi is present to a large degree though - Albert is present as a looming challenger (in addition to a few other uses) - Kisumi makes appearances to generate trouble (of course!) - Rin is used as supporting cast but is present a lot towards the end and gets his own set of subplots - Sousuke there as supporting cast for Rin, although he picks on Rin a lot - Gou is present as supporting cast for Mako x Haru, as well as Rin - Regisa is there, you know it, hahaha, as supporting cast for Mako x Haru - Nagisa is super ornery in this because I love writing ornery Nagisa But mostly: - This is mostly a love letter to Makoto, a character I never expected to like at all, but whom I cannot help but think is probably the Best Guy In All Of Anime. - Haru’s still the hottttttest tho, I would eat him up, yum

I took this fanart(?) or doujin(?) image (first), and altered it by adding the rest of the wing and making the background transparent (second), cleaning up all the edges, to use for a youtube mako/haru shipping video (last) I made a while back. I have no idea who made this drawing; found it on like pinterest or whatever. Kudos to the original artist. Still alive, still diligently working on this. I did another full check of the script for all pages with text of any note, and I’ve done probably 25 QC passes of the draft release. ‘Bout ready to stab my eyes out tbh. But it feels really close now. I’ve had a kink thrown into the mix of getting this released. Some relatives have evacuated from the hurricane in New Orleans to our house and so now we have loads of kids and animals and noise in the house that isn’t normally present, and just generally people lurking around who can’t see what I’m doing, so I’ve had to cut back the time I work on this to times when no one’s around or where I can escape away to a solitary corner somewhere.

It’s looking really good. It’s definitely really close. I just need a few more hours to myself and I’ll be able to finish it up. I’m crossing my fingers for sometime on Sunday. Hopefully it’ll happen. :x

Doujinshi is still “done” and in QC phase. Will try to finalize and get it posted by the end of the week. I just keep finding things every time I reread that I need to tweak. You know how it is. 

At some point I’ll deem it “good enough”. I’m hoping I’ll be able to get through the whole thing at least once without seeing something I need to fix. There are a lot of places where the cleaning could’ve been better, but I’ve forced myself to stop messing with those and focus on spelling, grammar, readability and legibility.

Doujinshi translation project update~~

First draft is ~~complete~~ all translation, cleaning, and typesetting (pic is from p31). I will be spending next week doing QC while I’m on vacay, then I get to figure out how to upload this nonsense to MRM and other sites when I return. This whole thing has been a learning process for me, so I’ve had to experiment with GIMP to do the typesetting and cleaning part of this justice. The QC period will be used to clean up some of my sloppier typesetting from early on, as well as to double-check the translation and adaptation (and spelling, grammar). Keep in mind that all pics I’ve posted here are from the draft version and most of them have changed since I posted them.

I hadn’t really read this doujinshi before I decided to translate it to English (yes I’m nuts!), so I’ve just been reading it as I came to each page to translate it. Anyway, I just finished the translation for page 30....

O.M.F.G. Laughed. My. Ass. Off. Dyinnnnnng, DYYYYINNNNGGGG over here. This has got to be one of the single most hilarious doujin moments in history. This whole thing has been a wacky kink ride, but at the end of the day it has been such a hilarious treat. Page 30 made the whole thing worth it. <3
