His surroundings made him feel serene, the aroma tickling his nose and the silence aiding his imagination. He wished for open fields and chirping birds, but this enclosure brought him this certain tranquility he couldn’t get back home. With a small hum, he took his focus away from the flowers and paid attention to another flower in the room. “Whenever you’d like, I should be here. Just give me a ring and I’ll bring some chairs in here for us to sit and talk. How’s that sound?”
A grin appeared on his face to match the female’s, and he waltzed over to the utility bin, pulling out some scissors and ribbon. “Roses and orchids?” He repeated, going to the requested flowers and snipping an assortment of colors that matched well. As he remembered the second half of what she said, he spoke up again. “You said you’ll treat me to something?” Asking, he turned his head towards her for a moment, a smile still on his face. “May I be treated to some pizza, then? It’s been a while since I’ve had some, and I could really go for a couple of slices.”
Chuckling, he made sure the stems of the flowers were long and clean, arranged just right, and wrapped carefully with the ribbon. “You know the drill. Put these in water as soon as you get home, crush up an aspirin tablet. I cut the bottoms at an angle, so trim them that way every few days, yeah? Change the water, too. Okay?” Happily, he handed the bouquet to her, his smile still soft across his lips. “I can bring you more flowers the day you treat me, too, if you’d like.”
