It's not just that Ace died. It's that Luffy screamed so loud and cried so hard his mind broke, and he lost consciousness from sheer heartbreak. I can still hear his scream. Like, Luffy completely broke down. For a haunting, heart-wrenching moment, he wasn't the future king of the pirates. He wasn't a promising rookie or the smiling mugiwara pirate. He was just a boy who lost his big brother, the one who he loved most in the world, the one he looked up to and almost killed himself multiple times to save.
His big brother who didn't hesitate to sacrifice his life, who up until then didn't realise the worth of his own.
