Author’s Note: Here is day 22 of the April Challenge. I thought this was cute, hopefully you all enjoy.
The music pumped through your veins as if it was your blood supply as you danced around the dance floor. Your best friend’s hand in yours as the crowd gathered around you. You’d lost track of how many drinks you’d had, how many hours you’d been dancing away. Work had been too much lately - your life had been too much, really, and you just needed a night of fun. To forget at least for a little while.
He’d noticed you as soon as you’d walked in, took count of each drink, made sure you were safe out there. He didn’t know why he’d felt so protective of you, maybe broken souls had a way of crying out for each other and he could tell whatever front you were putting on was just that. He smirked as you moved further away from the group of guys who had approached you. He was ready to interfere if he needed too, but you seemed to be handling your own just fine.
Your name being called on the mic drew you from your thoughts and you looked over at your best friend, confused.
“Go! It’s your turn for karaoke!” She squealed, pushing you towards the stage.
Fuck.
You’d definitely forgotten you’d signed up when you got there. Jiyong watched as you made your way to the stage, happy to have caught your name without having to work for it. You took the mic with a nervous gulp as you turned to face the audience. You didn’t bother to look up at them as the music started. Jiyong raised a brow as he recognized the familiar tune of Untitled start up. Not a typical go to karaoke song.
Mustering whatever courage you could find in your tipsy body, you sang along to a song you’d loved for the last ten years. You were so lost in the lyrics, in the hurt, in the begging for the lost love to come home that you didn’t see him. Your idol was literally standing feet in front of you, watching you sing your heart out to his song. The crowd had parted for him like he was some kind of savior and maybe he was but you were so oblivious to all of it. Eyes closed, willing yourself not to cry as you belted your heart out.
As the song came to an end, you blinked - the music going back to its upbeat tune and you handed the mic back to Steve, the MC of the evening before catching a glimpse of a scarfed head. Surely not. He wouldn’t be in such a place, not alone. But as you exited the stage there he was. Waiting. Why was he there? Oh god. He’d heard you, hadn’t he?
“Nice song choice.” He smirked at you like he knew you.
“Thanks.” You blushed, your eyes frantically searching for your friend.
Jiyong picked up on it, of course he had. He’d been mesmerized by you the entire night. He spotted your best friend, dancing away with a guy and he turned back to face you.
“I think she might need your help.” Your gaze followed his and you let out a sigh.
“That’s her boyfriend. Didn’t realize he’d shown up.” You shrugged, a small smile covering your sadness.
Jiyong picked up on that too. It had been a long time since someone had interested him in the way you had. He wanted to offer you a record deal and get to know you - maybe even marry you. He was getting too ahead of himself.
“I’d offer to buy you a drink but I feel you’ve had enough already.” Your arms folded at his words, a brow raised.
“You don’t know how many drinks I’ve had.”
“And you do?”
You paused, looking up at him. He was smirking at you, brows raised in a challenge and your stomach flipped. This had to be a dream, right? There was no way you were having a conversation with Kwon Jiyong. No way.
“Thought so.” He moved to the side, letting you walk in front of him. He definitely didn’t mind the view from this side. “It was six by the way.”
“You’ve been watching me?” Your heart raced at the thought of someone you’d had a crush on since childhood noticing you. Let alone counting your drinks.
“Someone had to make sure you were safe. Sure as hell wasn’t going to be your friend.” Your eyes found your best friend again and you snorted.
“Fair point. Well, thanks for watching me. Totally not at all embarrassed that you heard me destroy your song.” You slid into a booth on the quieter side of the club, Jiyong followed suit. “Sorry about that.”
“You made that song ten times better.” His eyes locked on yours. Full sincerity in his voice as he spoke. “It’s been a long time since I’ve heard such raw talent.” He leaned back in his seat, looking you over.
“Thank you.” You whispered, your eyes casting down to stare at the table.
Jiyong’s fingers drummed on the table, lost in thought. You needed a confidence boost and he needed more people for his song. Maybe just maybe if he asked you to be a part of it and you met a bunch of other talented people who were blown away by your voice you’d start to believe it too. It was worth a shot, and if you said yes he’d get to see you again. Maybe even get to know why there was sadness in your eyes so he could make it stop. A win for everybody.
“So. I’m working on a song.” Your eyes shot back up.
“Right, the whole premise of Good Day?” You nodded. “I’ve been watching the show.” He smirked.
“Then you know I’m recruiting people.” Your heart stopped, eyes widening at his words.
“Yeah, famous friends of yours, not some unknown girl in a club.” He shrugged.
“Your voice is what the song is missing.”
“Mr. Dragon, please, you heard me sing one karaoke song.”
“Jiyong.” He snorted, shaking his head. “And one song was all I needed to hear.” He reached into his back pocket, pulling out a card and sliding it across the table. “We record tomorrow.” He pointed to the address. “Please come.”
You swallowed, your eyes staring at the card before your hand reached out to grab it, Your fingers brushed with his and you shivered at the contact. How long had it been since you’d felt the touch of a man that just the brushing of fingertips was making your head spin? Jiyong noticed, the smirk ever present on his face. You wanted to wipe it off him, but you couldn’t even move from your spot.
“I’ll be there.” If you said yes you couldn’t have time to back out.
Jiyong’s face lit up when you’d agreed. He’d been prepared to argue with you all night about it, this was easier. The song changed to an upbeat one that just so happened to be your favorite and your face lit up as you slid the card into your pocket. Jiyong, ever observant, noticed and stood up, reaching his hand out towards yours.
“Dance?” You hesitated for a second before taking his hand.
He led you out to the dance floor and your body started moving to the beat of the music. Your arms wrapping loosely around his neck as you swayed your hips. Jiyong understood now why such a crowd had gathered around you earlier in the night. It was as if the music had transformed you, the beat of it bringing you to life. You were made for the music, it had been made for you.
His arm reached out, grabbing onto your hips as his body moved in sync with yours. It had been a long time since he’d allowed himself to loosen up like this. He could get used to nights like this, but he was getting ahead of himself. He still needed to impress you tomorrow so he could take you out on a real date .
Before either of you had realized what was happening, as if there was a magnet pulling you together, your lips locked in a kiss. Your tongue darting out to lick his lips, begging for entrance. He happily obliged your request, his lips parting, his tongue meeting yours in a dance. He’d wanted to kiss you since the moment he’d laid eyes on you but he hadn’t wanted to take advantage of the situation.
He pulled back when his body demanded oxygen and your eyes opened, a smirk on your lips to rival Jiyong’s. You were breathtaking, it almost wasn’t fair. Jiyong wasn’t going to take advantage of you though, not while you’d been drinking. Instead he led you over to your friend, and fixed a stray piece of hair that had gotten loose when he’d kissed you.
“I’ll see you tomorrow?” You nodded and he moved to give you a quick hug. His eyes went from yours to your friends and he nodded. “Get home safe. Call me if you need anything.”
“Bye Jiyong.” He waved and then headed out the door.
“What was that about?” Your friend turned to face you.
“I’m going to be singing on a G-Dragon song.” You shrugged, excusing yourself to follow him out.
It took you a second to spot him, slipping into the backseat of a car. His window rolled down and for a second you stared at each other. Jiyong smirked before he lit up a cigarette, inhaling as he nodded at you. The car door opened slightly and you stepped over to it, sliding into the seat. Jiyong might just be the answer to everything you’d been looking for and you’d be damned if you let him go tonight. Jiyong would happily follow you wherever you wanted to go. He knew he wouldn’t mind doing just that for the rest of his life.
is this something i'm very satisfied by? Hell no, not even remotely. but it's an experiment so i wasn't expecting much and i needed to get something out for pride month too so wonky experimental art it is.
