Her glasses sat askew on the bridge of her nose, fixed by a quick push with the back of her hand as she looks up at her friend, chin still resting on her desk. The imprint of the sheets she had fallen asleep on, carve into her cheek like a temporary reminder. “ You should have just let me sleep forever. ” She rubs her eyes before sitting up and stretching her arms. A groan of fatigue and irritation leaves her lips. Jisoo already knows what she’s going to say, so the question reminiscent to that of a disappointed parent. Instead of answering directly, Eunmi is making up excuse after excuse, each subsequent explanation seemingly less and less valid.
“ You know I had a midterm this morning, I had to pull an all-nighter for that. Plus, my cat wouldn’t get off my lap, so you know I couldn’t get up. And did you even see the moon last night ? How could I sleep when it looked that beautiful ? ”
Once she’s done rambling, something that only ever happens when she’s wholeheartedly comfortable, she pushes herself out of her desk, chair screeching behind her. Gathering her books into her backpack, she grins at the mention of food. Eunmi hadn’t realized she had been hungry until now, sleep had been the more pertinent issue. “ Because you want me around or because you don’t know how to dispose of a body ? ” She laughs at her own joke as she throws her bag over her shoulders, newfound energy fuelled only by the promise of sustenance.
“ I swear to the heavens, yelp doesn’t lie. The new pho place right beside campus has consistently gotten five stars, and you know the stars don’t lie. ” A firm nod followed by an appreciative grin shot her way. “ Thank you, I can’t afford to listen to the lecture recording. His voice always puts me to sleep. You think that’s why so many people fail the course ? ”
