Hazel looked in the mirror and blew out a discouraged sigh. She had never been insecure, and she hated herself for being nervous about tonight because really… Why did she care? She cared for a lot of reasons in fact, and all of them came back to her wanting her boyfriend’s family to like her while knowing there was a pretty big chance they wouldn’t. She tried to tell herself that there probably wasn’t something she could do about it, so she shouldn’t sweat it. It wasn’t like she could change her entire socio-economical background to someone wealthy from some upperclass family with famous ancestors.
But no matter how much she tried to calm herself down, her heart would still beat a little faster every time she thought about the impending meet with her in-laws. When she turned around from the mirror and looked at Davis who was sitting on her bed, she jutted out her lower lip and whimpered a little. “I look stupid.” She said, referring to the dress. She had borrowed it from a girl at school who said it was perfect for meeting any set of parents located on the ‘rich’ side of town, but it was like the dress knew she was from North End and that both her parents worked multiple jobs and only had one TV in the entire house. At least that’s how she felt when she sat down next to Davis with a sigh, and hid her face in the nook between his neck and shoulder.
