OPEN STARTER (F/F ONLY). “Don’t know where he is.” Alexis looked up from the glass she was wiping down, taking a good look at the woman on the customer side of the bar. “He hasn’t been in for a few days.” She shrugged casually, underlining the triviality of that fact. “I wouldn’t worry though. He’ll be back around when he feels like it.” It wasn’t uncommon for her boss Jasper to disappear for days at a time, sometimes weeks. He didn’t tell anyone where he was going, or what he was doing, but Alexis could always be damned sure one woman or another would come by the bar asking for him.

Putting down the glass, she sighed. “Best I can do is offer you a drink.”

Fingers tightly gripped around the neck of the beer glass, Brett chucked the amorphous solid against the rufous bricks of the apartment complex. His hold on the object precipitated trails of tiny, protuberant blue veins to appear beneath his complexion. He didn't know what it was about Alexis that made him so apoplectic all the time. She would throw incensed jabs at him, causing any rational locutions that he may consider to become immobilized underneath the tip of his tongue. But yet after all this time, they were still together. While not discernible under the public eye, they were still completely in love with one another. Sure, they had a different way of parading their relationship, but that didn't make it any less consuming. As he tossed yet another glass bottle against the hardened wall, Brett could hear the barely audible sounds of shoes tapping against the cement.
