"That poor girl," was all Mary could muster as she put down the copy of The Daily Prophet, a chill running down her spine as she read the article a third time that morning. Her family didn't even stand a chance. Tortured before the Killing Curse was used. Pushing her plate away, she didn't even know how some of the people around her could eat because all she wanted to do was vomit. She glanced back at the entrance of the Great Hall and saw an auror walk past the door and yet she felt far from safe.
They were muggles, attacked simply because they had a child who was a witch. She had written to her parents as soon as she had read the paper, urging them to stay with her grandparents for awhile. She couldn't even bear the thought of her family going through what the Porters had, what those monsters had done to them was unforgivable. As hard as she tried to keep the prejudice against muggle-borns a secret from her family, she would never risk putting their lives on the line. Now all she had to do was wait for their reply, hoping and praying He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named's followers weren't on a rampage and that the letter would reach her family before things might be too late.
