Girl Talk | Lily and Marlene |
Marlene grinned at Lily next to her, snuggling beside her best mate underneath the warmth of the duvet. This was how they’d always done it, confessing and gossiping beneath the false safety of a blanket fort. She bumped her shoulder against Lily’s, bunching the covers up around her.
"No, Lily, it wasn’t Sirius. I told you you’d never guess," she gave her friend her trademark triumphant smirk, raising both eyebrows at her. She wasn’t going to share just yet; no, she was going to have a little bit of fun first. And, after all, who would’ve guessed that it was Benjy that had Marlene flushed like a schoolgirl in love. In love was a stretch, but the rest…not so much. He’d said as much to her too; she’d thought it stupid, his usual attempts to flirt and be charming and…oh, hells, it had work. "Oh, alright — Benjy Fenwick. We were bantering, as we do, you know, and one thing led to another and we ended up going on a date in the Astronomy Tower. It was nice, not like the others. And bloody hell, Lils; I don’t reckon I’ve ever had a snog like that before. I mean, the bloke made me see stars or some shit. It was like one of those romance stories. Well, save the part where I fell. But still.”
"What."
Lily blinked at her, completely blindsided. When Marlene said she'd never guess, she hadn't thought to take her literally.
Benjy Fenwick? The same Benjy who floated through life putting in as little effort as humanly possible? The same goofy, dopey who seemed to have all the emotional maturity of an alarm clock had managed to make Marlene McKinnon see stars? "Well, I've certainly underestimated his swoon-worthiness." Lily said at last, eyebrows raised in disbelief.
"Ooh the Astronomy Tower — yeah, I can imagine you get loads of privacy for mind-blowing snogs there." she teased, falling back into her role as obligatory, merciless mocker of her best mates' love lives. "And I dunno, McKinnon, you just said the phrases 'seeing stars' and 'romance stories' in the same breath....sounds like you've fallen pretty bloody deep to me."
