guardianlibero continued [x]:
It wasn’t often they argued, really. That was probably down to Asahi’s cowardly nature, not wanting to stand up to anything that the little libero said to him, even if the criticism was particularly harsh. Today was not the case though. Noya couldn’t even remember how the argument had started - something about the ace not trying his hardest in practice maybe? - but it wasn’t long before harsh words were beginning to be exchanged. It was hardly surprising: both of them were starting to feel the increased pressure of exams around them, with the expectations being even higher for the tall brunet.
What Noya hadn’t expected though, was for the spiker’s hand to snap out as he was about to start raising his voice. In his anger, Asahi wasn’t controlling his strength as well as he normally would, and the libero could already feel the pain around his jaw where the large, tanned hand was applying pressure. Shit, he was probably bruising already under the tight grip. For the first time, Noya was genuinely scared of Asahi, struggling to escape his grasp
He was tired. Tired from staying up too many nights trying to cram in studying, tired from his evening runs that came straight after each practice, tired from the mountains of pressure that his school work was loading on to him, tired from helping his dad in the garage as much as he did. Asahi was just so tired. And so once, just once, he had hoped to take it a little easy in practice. It was spikes, and he knew he could perform them. Perhaps it it was his received or his serving he was working on, maybe he’d put a little more effort, but this? This was something he could do. And he did, and it was fine. But not enough, apparently, for the little libero, who received it without problem as he usually did.
And from then it hadn’t mattered who intervened. Suga, Tanaka, Daichi, it didn’t matter because he didn’t see anyone else. Just Nishinoya and the words that were slung between them like a volleyball over the net. Back and forth with a constant white noise playing in the back of the spiker’s head. He didn’t want this. He didn’t want an argument, and his body had reacted before his mind could. He saw Noya sucking in a breath to amplify himself, and that was when he acted, shoving the libero back against the wall of the gym, one hand around his mouth and the other around his wrist which he held tight to the wall.
“Not today, Nishinoya!” This... was probably the first time outside of a match that Asahi had ever ralised his own voice. Ever. “I know I can do better, but it’s enough and I don’t need you telling me how to play my position so just focus on yourself and let me do the same..!” His voice came out as a growl, the other team members frozen in their positions at the out-of-character display. Chocolate irises stared intently down at the struggling second-year, his superior strength holding him in place for a few moments longer.
