ᴇxᴩʟᴏʀɪɴɢ the world beyond berk’s rigid cliffs had always been a prime interest at least since he formed a bond with his night fury anyway. his island village was small, eternally cold, but it was also his нσмє, which was why, for a good while after his arrival in king thranduil’s woodland realm, he longed to turn homeward. under the thick canopy of ancient trees above he suffocated & the grandiose halls were not exactly comforting or homey either ;; more like a cold labyrinth meant for ɢ ᴏ ᴅ s.
ʜɪᴅᴅᴇɴ beneath mature leaves, he could not see the ѕку, the vast expanse above that let him fly, pass through the misty white & pink & grey clouds, be crowned with silver ѕтαяѕ. the atmosphere was his realm, his domain, & to be wingless was to be cursed. yet here he was, trapped in a foreign forest, grounded. but hiccup was a chief, and he never let others on to his troubles through expression. not to his knowledge anyway.
ᴇʟᴠᴇs are a wholly mysterious race, one hiccup was not knowledgeable of, save what little he gathered from the king. he knew naught of their love for beauty, nor of their admiration of ѕтαяѕ, & certainly not of just how observant they truly were ;; for if he had, he would not have been surprised when thranduil called upon him.
❝ Stargazing? Are you sure? I thought I mean, yes, can we please? Odd to admit, but I miss looking up at the sky. ❞
ʙᴇʟɪᴇᴠᴀʙʟᴇ is the fact that those who dwell in the skies, who feel free when in flight, feel quite lost without the familiar companion stars. excited & rushed footsteps fell behind the king’s, towards open skies, hiccup’s home away from home. he cast his eyes above, toward white stars, toward єтєяηαℓ ѕку.

A long time it has been since the arrival of this one guest in his kingdom. Thranduil was not aware of the length of his stay, but the king has made certain that the chief of the far-off locale was treated with the legendary courtesy of the elves. After all, that of which he rules is clear to become a very valuable trading partner as is settled and confirmed in the matters of business discussed rather frequently (almost on a day to day basis) between himself and Hiccup.
And yet, Thranduil senses still some sort of discomfort (sadness) in the countenance of his guest which he concludes is caused by homesickness and culture shock. The Elvenking understands all too well how discomfiting it is being in a distant land, away from all that holds warmth of familiarity. It is from this understanding that he invites the young leader one night to stargaze and bare witness to the twinkling gems of Elbereth with him.
❝ Master Hiccup, you need have only asked. We elves are fond of the sky and the stars, and those of my realm love the faint glow of stars far more than the dazzling light of even the moon and sun. ❞
He leads them both to ladder hidden by moss and green and up, up he goes, expecting the younger to follow him so. When he reaches the top of the staircase, he stops for it takes them to a small, but spacious platform above ground, open and free, where the night sky is visible and so seemingly near to the beholders of its ethereal beauty.
❝ Aye, the sky is lovely tonight. ❞
