📖
It has been near a week now on the tides. I am just now starting to keep my meals down, and am spending less time staring down into the churning waters with the crew laughing at my back.Am I closer to getting my sea legs? Not at all. But Val loves the winds and has made the crow’s nest more of an eagle’s nest. He likes the man who oft sits up there. He causes less trouble when he is distracted, and for that, I am thankful. His eyes are not necessary here. The Captain watches every move I make, and makes sure I break my fasts in her presence, but it benefits me as well. It is difficult to discern what lies behind her attentive eyes. I have never been this intimately close with a target, not for this long. The daily occurrences of the ship are becoming normal to me. I have memorized almost all of the parts of this ship, from the foremast to the rudders and stern chasers. The deck is not a place I like to be when the waves splash over the edge. The first time I slipped my vision spun for what seemed like hours. I was told it made for a good part of my “initiation”. I am not excited to see what else comes my way. Many opportunities have come to me to be rid of her. The next chance I get, I tell myself, and then she shares a sip of ale with me. The next time will be perfect, and she is showing me a constellation I have never heard of. These chances turn into days. My stomach grows sicker as we approach closer to mud town. A life for a life. What will happen afterwards?
