Because I write too many sad things

from a conversation with @lcthallin

(in the Tranquility Healed verse): Clarice sitting in the sun in the skyhold garden, getting a little bit sunburnt, surrounded by flowers and butterflies, a bandana around her forehead to hide the brand, reading a book and learning how to read for pleasure again. a cup of cocoa beside her, and she is, for the first time in years, feeling at peace.

Ariadne realizing that she could walk down the main street in val royeaux with her female LI’s hand in hers, utterly unashamed and uncaring of who sees, because she's in love and that's okay, and she just sprints over to find her LI so she can hug her and kiss her in front of everyone who might be watching

Sekhmet finding a quiet spot in Skyhold with a cello that she managed to order (her first purchase since running away) and just playing all the songs she loved a child, the soft songs that her family loved, and she plays into the night until her fingers go numb with cold, and feeling like she belongs and that she can live with the bits of Rivain she brought with her

Teagan introducing his LI to his friends that come to Skyhold to see how he's doing, and they all go out drinking for the night and party, and Teagan drunkenly cuddles up to his LI and tells them that all his favourite people are here and he's so happy

Cullen standing on the battlements, feeling the wind on his face and in his hair, before he's tapped by a lonely child and he ends up forsaking duty for a few minutes to play tag with them, and he feels a little more alive

Angst is fun to write. But my muses deserve to be happy too.

Clarice: “I am terrified and confused at the same time.” 
Sekhmet: “If this is the man that ordered my Circle annulled, then we are going to have some serious disagreements.” 
Teagan: “And I thought Knight-Commander Meredith had had delusions of grandeur. What happened to the Templars?”

My brain doesn’t entirely want to work on replies tonight. As such, here is some meta I wrote during a meeting about Clarice Rivers, and, more specifically, how she became Tranquil.

As discussed in her bio, Clarice was not meant to become Tranquil. She had drawn some attention from the Templars for her curiosity about magic outside the Circle, and, more notably, for how she had read every book in Ferelden Circle’s library (or at least, it seemed like she had). If she had continued on that path, she likely would have become a senior enchanter, if not a potential successor to Irving as First Enchanter. However, that was not the case, and it was, I stress, not her fault in any way.

No, that was because of Eobard Thorne.

Eobard was another apprentice in Kinloch, about six years her senior. He was intelligent as well, if a bit sadistic, and hated the Templars with a passion. Many of the other apprentices didn’t know if they were afraid of him or in awe of him. CLarice oscillated between those two categories, although she was much more focused on trying to make herself useful and learn as much as she ould.

Eobard had other ideas, though. He had a bit of a thing for small slender girls, and one night, after a late night reading, he pressed Clarice into a corner and propositioned her for an evening for pleasure, hidden from the Templars, to satisfy the body’s needs. She was just barely sixteen at this point, him 23, and she was beyond disgusted. As such, she rejected him by kicking him in the nuts very hard and hit him in the face with the book she had been carrying, which left an imprint of the amulet on the cover on his face. His limp the next morning and the bruise on his face showed exactly what had happened.

He avoided her after that, and Clarice happily returned to her work. That was, however, not the case. Eobard was furious and decided that now, he had the perfect scapegoat. He had been experimenting with blood magic and the Templars were very close to catching him. As such, one night, he snuck into Clarice’s dorm, drugged her for a deeper sleep, and set about framing her for his crimes. A few cuts into her hands and arms with a knife, some healing magic to make some look like old scars, and a magical explosion, and the Templars came to apprehend their potential blood mage. That it was the tiny apprentice from the library made no sense, but the Templars took her anyway. Better to find a blood mage than lose one with doubt.

Clarice, of course, denied every claim of blood magic. She knew no blood magic spells, and she liked her life in the Circle Why on earth would she do such a thing? She begged and pled, but it was no use. Eobard had left evidence of her supposed ‘crimes’ all over the Hold. She was to be made Tranquil.

It was not until after the Rite that the Circle realized their mistake. They asked her about her blood magic, as Tranquil cannot lie, and she told them that it was not her. Her alibis checked out, her wounds were too fresh for past crimes, and there were not enough scars for the crimes.

The Templars had made a mistake, and an innocent had been made Tranquil.

Cullen was, of course, furious when he came to the Circle and found out, but the damage was done. Eobard soon ran away a few weeks after the Rite, and the Templars put two and two together.

At present, Eobard is still at large, and Clarice remains the quiet victim.
