debrief
/since i told @kissmyhelmet about this blog and she told me to, i wrote this ridiculous fic to commemorate another Kaidan in the community. she laughed at my writing tag. might continue with the fun parts. rebloggable promo coming tomorrow!
This is ridiculous.
The whole situation is, frankly, ridiculous.
They finally get some time together on the Citadel and what does she want to do? She wants to have a quickie on the Presidium. No, not in a hotel room. Not in the safety of some odd office. No. That damned balcony outside the bar in the Embassies. The one that formerly held a Keeper. That’s where she wants to have sex.
God, he loves this woman. She’ll be the death of him.
She’s dragging him by his hand up the stairs to the bar, rambling about all the errands she should be doing for the crew. He just listens, occasionally humming or saying some word to prove he’s listening. He enjoys the sound of her voice after barely hearing it for two and a half years. After avoiding it for two and a half years. And he enjoys this swing of joy in the midst of her worry and sorrow.
The war is taking it’s toll on Commander Shepard. But not this day. Not if he can help it.
The couple turns the corner into the hall, walks straight into the bar. She quiets down then. He loves how she goes quiet when she’s close to a goal. So wrapped up in what will happen and what could happen. So excited for whatever it is. So ready for her reward. She’s practically running now. He could laugh at her enthusiasm. They’re almost to the balcony door, Kaidan ready to open his omni-tool to lock it, when it happens.
“Commander Shepard!”
They both freeze. They let go of each other’s hands like their on fire. Eyes turn on them, muttering starts, and for a second Kaidan is ready to bolt. Attention is not something the Major enjoys. It’s something he actively avoids. His eyes dart about the room, trying to see which fan he’s going to—... ah.
“Admiral Anderson... sir.” There’s something he should be doing, something he’s forgetting. He’s in a haze of embarrassment and fear and whatever it is it must not be important.
“Major Alenko,” he responds to Kaidan’s lame greeting, nodding politely. He turns to the woman beside him. Kaidan sees the light blush gracing her cheeks. He’s sure he’s blushing too. “I came up to the Citadel to check in with the Ambassadors. Glad to see you’re giving yourself a chance to relax, Commander.”
If only you knew, Anderson. But Shepard smiles brightly at their superior.
“We’re actually out on business, Admiral,” she lies easily, standing more at attention. “Just looking for somewhere quiet to debrief the major, here.”
Kaidan jumps to attention at that, drawing a raised eyebrow from Anderson. Oh, come on. He had to have heard that ridiculous double entendre. He can see Shepard smirking at him out of the corner of his eye. How could she? Anderson clears his throat in the face of Shepard’s comment.
“I’m sure the balcony will be of some use to you, then.”
“That’s what I was thinking, sir. It’s actually where we were headed.”
“Well then,” Anderson starts, still looking between them. Kaidan wishes he could read the man’s mind, hear what he could be thinking, if he understood what Shepard had said to him. Give me some kind of hint, Anderson! “I’ll... leave you to it. And I’ll forgive the lack of salutes, soldiers.”
Damn. I forgot to salute. I’ve been a soldier for almost 20 years and I forgot to salute.
Kaidan may have imagined it, but he’s sure Anderson walked away shaking his head, but grinning. Shepard grabs his arm when the Admiral is gone, and he lets the woman drag him out onto the balcony. Blessedly, it’s deserted, and Kaidan makes quick work of the door. As soon as the lock goes red, Shepard is on him, pulling him down by his uniform and kissing him hard.
“Shepard,” he mutters against her lips, pausing as she continues the kiss. “Honestly, Shepard? Debrief?”
She laughs. It’s melodic and makes his own heart feel light. He’s missed that sound.
“It’s not like I was lying,” she singsongs, hands moving down to undo his pants. She leans close, lets her voice become a purr that sends shivers down his spine. “You’ll be debriefed of our situation within the hour, Major.”
God, he loves this woman. She’ll be the death of him. Whether it’s death by embarrassment or... something less innocent... only time will tell.
