Once again, Alayne somehow manged to sneak Trey's gift inside Team Aqua's base, and like usual it would be waiting for him on his bed for whenever he finally stumbled in. There were actually two boxes this time. The first being full of home-made pokeblock for his pokemon. The second had an expensive bottle of whiskey, a Dragon Scale, and a beautiful carving of Trey lying in the sand with Leo sleeping on his chest.
It was a good thing none of the aforementioned gifts were perishable, because it would be a few days before Trey was around to see them.
He knew there was a chance Alayne would drop by, even though he insisted she not risk sneaking into the Aqua Base again. Still, knowing what she was like, and especially knowing what some of the other Aqua grunts were like, Friday had been left behind on guard duty. The Huntail wrapped himself around anything dropped by, zealously guarding the gifts until his trainer’s return.Trey shook his head with a smirk when he finally came home and spotted the boxes. Of course she’d went ahead and snuck in anyway…
Friday was particularly interested in the smaller parcel, nudging at it intently, so Trey went ahead and opened that one first. The Huntail was first to sample the pokeblocks, along with a few extra as a reward for a job well done. Judging by how Friday had devoured his share, the rest of the blocks wouldn’t last long.
The carving was the first thing to catch Trey’s eye in the second box. He carefully examined his tiny doppelganger, finding the sculpture even morefinely crafted than the one she’d made last year. There was something about the detail in their expressions… Alayne had clearly put a lot of time into this. And a lot of heart…
The Dragon Scale caught the light and glinted, and Trey was immediately distracted when he realised what it was. He had to bite his lip to not squeal in an undignified manner. It was the ultimate dragon fanboy item, nearly impossible to get a hold of, and to top if all off, the colouring suggested it was from a Salamence. Maybe he could attach it to his bracelet, to replace the Deep Sea Tooth that she gave him last year… This time, he’d make sure not to handle any Seadras while wearing it.
The whiskey seemed like a good brand, and expensive. Just how much had Alayne spent on all this? Even if she’d swiped the pricey stuff from somewhere, it was clear she’d put a lot of thought into all the gifts.
For a moment, Trey wasn’t sure what he’d gotten her in return was enough. He hadn’t spent nearly enough time as she had considering his gift, though the luxury ball it came with had cost a pretty penny. But he knew what Alayne was like… Surely she’d love it. Hopefully.
