26. nostalgia; ( feelings meme. )
Surrounded by boxes all around him, Daichi’s absolutely exhausted. Cleaning his room out is taking much longer than he’d first expected. Right when he’d thought he’d made a lot of progress, his eyes settled on another pile of things he hadn’t even realized he’d hidden away. The end is just nowhere in sight.
Taping up the box he’d just filled, Daichi wipes the sweat off his brows before falling backwards to lie on his bedroom floor. The urge to shut his eyes and doze off right then and there for a moment is strong, but his hand knocks over a pile as he stretched. With a groan, he looks over and found a a photograph sitting on top a stack of old papers now scattered around. It takes a bit of reaching, but eventually he manages to pick it up for a closer look.
Grinning back at him is a much younger Sugawara, and beside him, a scandalized looking version of himself. Daichi bursts into laughter at the sight—he can’t remember why he’d even made such an expression in the first place. Judging by Sugawara’s slight edge over him in height, this had to be back when they were first years in high school. Somehow, Sugawara looked just like he’d remembered him… But man, looking at his younger self is bizarre. Had he really looked like that? He can’t help but run a hand along his jaw, wondering when he’d lost his rounder baby face.
The longer he looks at the picture, the warmer he finds himself feeling as memories wash over him. It had to be summer judging by their short sleeves… They had probably thought they had all the time in the world back then.
He’s just about to set the photograph back down and get back to work, when he reaches for his phone in his pocket instead. It’s hard to hold his hand steady when he’s lying down like this, but he manages to snap a picture of the old photo.
