Raised rich, Preston grew up with a bunch of first world problems: his parents didn’t pay attention to him, he never learned to take care of himself, he had no real friends, etc
It wasn’t long until he started acting out in a desperate bid for attention, one that went nowhere.
Ultimately he befriended two very lower class people who, though distrustful of him at first, adopted him into their little friend group to make a trio.
A complicated trio as Preston never told them about his wealth, and they never really let him in on their true problems.
It all fell apart when his new female friend admitted to being in love with him, despite her childhood friend having loved her for years.
Preston turned her down as he was completely and utterly in love with his girlfriend who would later become his fiance... except that he discovered she was only with him because her parents wanted her to marry rich.
After they broke up, Preston returned to his friends for comfort and ended up sleeping with his female friend out of sheer heartbreak. Hating himself for what he’d done, Preston was too harsh in his rejection, and the already mentally unstable girl ended up taking her own life.
Horrified by everything and by his family who were only concerned with keeping things from affecting their good name, Preston left, disappearing into the night and not leaving any trace of where he’d gone for either his former best friend or his parents to find him.
