kinda subverting this won’t lie bc i’m an edgelord who loves angst tbh i’m so sorry bb. may write a part 2 if y’all like it idk
You were a terrible influence, and Fred knew it. The only redeeming feature about you that he could come up with was that you weren’t a death eater.
And he had struggled to come up with that one.
Especially because he’d spent so fucking long trying to figure out if you were or not. You apparently hated the lot, which was quite a bonus for you, if Fred was honest with himself. It meant that besides being attractive, you also weren’t an evil person.
You had exactly two good points.
Some might call them the ‘bare minimum’.
He was so focus glaring at you, that he hadn’t noticed that you had noticed. “Are you going to look at me like that the whole time I’m working with you?”
“Yes.”
“Don’t think I’ve done anything recently to deserve that.” there was a tut on your lips as you helped him out of his hospital bed and into the wheelchair. “I’d appreciate it if you kept your judgements of me only based on the last six months.”
Truly, why did Fred have to see you every day? Why were you his healer?
Life simply was not fair.
He kept his stare leveled at you, and you let out a sigh.
“How’s your head, Freddie?”
His glare told you plenty. “You don’t get to call me that.”
“My apologies, how is your head feeling today, Frederick?”
You could hear him grinding his teeth as he averted his gaze to the window.
“It hurts.” when you hummed in response and began to wheel him down the hall, he took the moment to speak. “Mum made me come back here. I don’t want to be in here again.”
“She dragged you back?”
He could recall you threatening to drag him somewhere in your school days.
“Yeah. I fell. We were standing for too long.”
“You came in pretty dehydrated. Were you not able to get your wheelchair out there?”
Fred shook his head. “I could. Didn’t want it.”
“And no water?”
“Am I supposed to be chugging water during a eulogy?” there was a dark edge to the sarcasm in his voice, that seemed to fall away. As if he didn’t have the nerve to back it up anymore.
“Suppose you can’t, you’ve got a point. And then you fell? Or you fainted?”
Fred’s silence spoke volumes.
“If you want to stay out of here, in your state, you need to take care of yourself.”
“You don’t get it. You haven’t lost a sibling before.”
He couldn’t see you nod. “You’re right, I haven’t. You still need to take care of yourself though.”
“You’re not my friend.”
“I’m your healer, Fred. I’m not trying to be your friend. Always thought you were a prick, but that doesn’t mean I think you ought to atrophy yourself away like this.”
A spark of anger flew through the air, going out before he could act on it.
“You didn’t even like him.”
It was infuriating, how you didn’t shrink away from it. “No, we didn’t get along at all. Didn’t get along with you either. It’s an awful thing though. I’ve been wondering about you.”
The fact that someone who he’d thought of as his ‘enemy’ when he was young, was worried about him stuck at an odd part of Fred’s pride.
“I was an asshole to you when we were in school. That was just a few years ago.” Fred stayed quiet, and stared at his reflection from the window as you slowed down to a halt. “I can find you another healer. I’m sure having me as your healer is difficult, especially with your injuries, and George having passed on.”
Fred turned his head towards you, so far around that his neck stung and his eyes watered from the sensation.
“No. Got told you’re a brilliant healer. I’d like to stay with you.”
Three good points, about you now.
“Thank you Fred. I appreciate that.”
Fred stared into your face, and felt incredibly shocked at how open and honest it seemed to him now.
Somehow that felt very comforting.
“You’re welcome. Let’s get to therapy, please. I want to get it done with.” with a hum, you began to push him once more to your destination.
Fred frowned as he stared forwards.
It was odd how easily things seemed to change.
