Since I’m following & interacting with a bunch of fantastic Fallout blogs, I figured it might be helpful to post his verse here (rather than expect people to look for it on their own via his verses page). Details are below the cut!
Silas was born & raised in the southernmost part of the Wasteland . Though he belonged to a poor family of conservative, god-fearing farmers, life was hardly lonely once he befriended another farm boy by the name of Billy Thatcher. As teenagers, the pair fell in love & maintained a secret affair as they planned an eventual getaway. That dream ended once raiders invaded their respective farms. While Silas & Billy were spared in hiding, their families were robbed, violated, and slaughtered before their very eyes. They remained in hiding for days until hunger outweighed fear, forcing them to feed off their families’ corpses. The pair then fled north in hopes of seeking refuge, quickly adopting thievery, violence, and cannibalism in order to survive their various, treacherous travels along the way--including stops along the coast and in the Capitol Wasteland. Silas survives first as an independent & ruthless raider, both formidable in close combat & enduring in will. It isn’t long before he’s attracted to chem use, and eventually becomes dependent upon regular doses of Psycho to function. He happily feeds his addiction during a short stint in Nuka World, where he falls in with The Pack ( whileBilly finds his place with The Disciples). However, in-fighting quickly gets out of hand, and Silas & Billy decide to leave before someone gets around to murdering them in their sleep.
Billy’s sanity also begins to wane as the years pass them by, while radiation & the consumption of human flesh take their respective tolls on his health. By the time they arrive in the Commonwealth of Boston, Billy’s health is dangerously feeble. In turn, Silas desperately raids settlements throughout the Commonwealth for chems & medicine, albeit to no lasting avail. One particular raid inadvertently lands him in the crosshairs of the Brotherhood of Steel. Despite a fervent fight that take the lives of two knights, Silas is taken prisoner & forced aboard the Prydwyn by order of Elder Maxson, who’d witnessed his impressive efforts firsthand. In place of execution, Silas is offered a deal: medical aid and shelter in exchange for indefinite service to the Brotherhood. Left without choice, Silas is drafted as an Initiate while Billy is admitted, treated, and eventually enrolled as a scribe. Despite his initial reluctance, Silas flourishes as a combatant & ascends quickly in the ranks as he’s radically detoxed of his chem addiction.
All is seemingly well until Billy is killed in action months later. Silas, beset by grief, is unable to let go of Billy’s body amidst combat, and is pulled out with the corpse wrapped tight in his arms. Once the initial shock subsides, Silas is left with nothing but sorrow & contempt for his elder, who he blames for a meaningless death. He attempts suicide in turn by jumping off the edge of the Prydwen without power armor, but is caught before he can follow through. He proceeds to curse Maxson’s name while blatantly threatening murder and mutiny. In place of discharge, he’s put on close psych evaluation before being redeployed in the field.
Silas is currently AWOL from the Brotherhood, laying low in the Commonwealth with no intention of returning. However, he’s not sure what kind of life lies ahead of him without distinct purpose, and without Billy at his side.
