there had been a time when dream had known every being he encountered. no one was a stranger, unless they neither slept nor dreamt. something had changed with the cryosleep. he was cut off from his realm, separated from the dreaming, and he could no longer access the dreams of others as well as he had been able to. yet not all was lost - even here, he received flickers, impressions; fleeting and easily lost, but better than nothing.
from the one who tended to the library, he sensed life, passion, and magic.
"a sorcerer, i see,” he commented, running his fingers over the edges of the books on the shelves. the library was big, yet so limited compared to the one of his own realm. his heart ached for the familiarity of it.
“did you arrive here by design, or by happenstance?”
@trailsblaze sent: “What a waste of a good pumpkin.” (paul for morpheus!)
morpheus had to agree with the sentiment. what had formerly been a lovely pumpkin grown in the gardens that he’d been taking care of, was now butchered; the victim of some amateur carving attempt that resulted in carnage. the pumpkin had broken apart entirely, leaving behind a dismal, half crumpled face.
"is this a tradition on your world?” he asked paul, as he knelt to examine the casualty. “i gather this is a tradition unique to a few countries on earth.”
🌙 - morpheus (dream) & caroline forbes || @realityquestioned reacted for a starter !!
unseemly and unfortunate wares
the artifacts here had real power - morpheus could feel their resonance in the air, lingering like siren echoes, calling out to the unwary. there were fakes here too, of course, and he could feel the gazes of the proprietors on him, sizing him up to tell if he knew what he was looking at. buyer beware, indeed.
others from the ship had passed in and out of here, but most had left, either uninterested or subconsciously ill at ease. one still lingered, however, and morpheus moved closer, wondering what the mortal saw in the various artifacts--
no, not a mortal. not entirely.
“you seem at home here,” he said. “did you come looking for something specific, or merely to browse?”
🌙 - morpheus (dream) & paul atreides ( @trailsblaze )
“your dreams are different from others aboard this ship,” dream remarked, the unsolicited sentence dropping like a deadweight into the space between them. social niceties were not foreign to him, but equally, they were unimportant; dreams began and ended as they willed, after all.
still, he reminded himself: he was part of the waking world now, trying to navigate this space amongst humanity. perhaps he could unbend, just a little.
“my name is morpheus,” he said. “in another place, i was dream, of the endless.”

THE QUESTIONNAIRE;
HOW DOES YOUR CHARACTER FEEL ABOUT BEING DROPPED INTO THE CAMBRIA PROGRAM? ARE THEY EXCITED? SUSPICIOUS? CONFUSED?
initially, dream was inclined to believe that he had been betrayed and captured again, bound to the waking world. however, he quickly came to the realisation that this was far different from his earlier imprisonment. now, he’s mostly just confused, but too arrogant to admit that he’s at a loss.
WHAT DOES YOUR CHARACTER HOPE TO SEE THE MOST DURING THE CAMBRIA ONE’S JOURNEY?
the voyage to the stars itself is hardly a new experience to the lord of dreams; what is new to him is the whole new situation - stranded in the waking world, curiously free from his responsibilities ... he thinks he would like to take this opportunity to find out what it is like to be just morpheus, without also being dream of the endless.
IF YOUR CHARACTER COULD BRING ONE THING OR PERSON FROM HOME, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
perhaps lucien, perhaps death (his elder sister, not death).
