Have you ever considered... reverse plurality?
So, maybe you are thinking, 'isn't that just being singular?' Which, no, actually. Because, if you think of plural as 'one body = multiple people' and singular as 'one body = one person', then this is actually 'multiple bodies = one person', so actually reverse plurality, not just 'matching' it, if you will (by that logic, 'multiple bodies = multiple people' is just the plural of singular people. huh. so it's plural, but typically, not the ND type of plural).
Well, anyways, I point this out because it's like me and my husband.
I'm not great at differentiating people. I have a hard time remembering people, remembering names, what different things happened with them (like what they know and don't know about me), but, that's always been between other people, not involving myself / not between myself and others, so, I've never had issues mixing myself up with other people... I also like to think I'm pretty good about it, and it's more of a conceptual issue, one I can fix by just thinking harder.
But I keep doing that with him, it's gotten so bad. The fact I have intrusive thoughts / hallucinations + general cognitive issues does NOT help.
I have no issue mixing him up with other people, like I would normally do...
So, I only confuse him with myself, instead of others.
I'm being very repetitive, but I just want to be clear, since this is a very weird concept.
I guess I would say, there's always been two groups, people and me.
People means plural, of course, but I also think of them as a collective, especially when it comes to considering myself (which may sound weird, considering I'm always going on about how 'everyone is different' lol).
But then comes, well, him... And he starts as the people / not-me group, though he's always seemed at least a little weird, anyways, as I get closer to him, so, I know him better, and he knows me better, and I have proof of this (rather than the fucked up assumptions people normally make), err, I start confusing him with myself. It seems linear, the closer we are (and the better I work with him), the more he falls into the me category / gets mixed up with me.
So, I get other people mixed up, because they're part of the same group, but I don't get myself mixed up with them, because of the uh, magic line between us. And I get him mixed up because he's on my side of the line now...
Again, reexplaining myself a lot, but I guess being super duper clear helps me too, in building out this system (of a concept).
I really can't say this enough, it's really bad.
It started as just me 'forgetting' about him, but not in the sense I actually forget he was there / existed, but in the sense I 'forget' about, say, my own hand... I know it's still there, so it's not that kind of forget, but I also have certain expectations for it, it's only an extension of myself, with no will of its own, so, there is no need to pay attention to it (like it is some singular/unique entity). It's still there, just on the side of my mind, like myself... (duh...?) but I can also use it (whenever I want), and so I do pay attention to / 'remember' it in that sense.
So,,, I keep forgetting about him, while also remembering he's there, like I expect him to be there, and expect him to be able + will do whatever I need or be helpful? Or just not contradictory...
But, I mean, he is really helpful. Like really really helpful. He's still a separate person, that's how I conceptualise him, and how I want to conceptualise him, but I just... expect him to know things about me. Like I expect him to work with me (actually, I just accidentally said 'him' instead! Maybe sometimes I have to focus on other people's yous, but not me and other people! aahhhhHHH!), and just, have the same thought process as me, be able to figure out what he/I should do (uuuuhhhhhgh, I don't even know what pronoun to use there, but I guess both fit okay), basically, just be me+
Which, that's so weird... that's not how people work... and it's not how I think either of us work either (like, I don't think we have the same mind and can read each other's thoughts or something), but I also keep doing it in this weird way, like there's multiple of us, but also only one of us. Maybe, multiple in the same way a person can have multiple body parts, but is still one person/entity... hmmm
Yeah, I mix up our pronouns/terminology too. Not the gendered ones, but frankly, I think that's only because we use the same pronouns/terms, if I was a woman and doing this, I'd probably be accidentally calling him she/her and my wife all the time lol.
I get our names mixed up too... Sometimes I call him by my name, or think of myself by his name. And I got to stop myself, like why did I do that???
I also, and actually, both of us seem to do this, copy him a lot. If he treats me a certain way, I won't do it exactly (we have different needs), but I'll adapt and copy to match. It's, intentional and unintentional at the same time.
It does make me think of, like, some concepts of marriage, like 'union', you know? Or like, 'their body is your body'? Or that you could be considered a collective / the same entity...
But I'm not sure that's,,, quite the same? Or maybe it is... Er, I guess because sometimes these things are really nonconsensual, which, total opposite of what we have (so consensual, waa... redefined my definition of consent even...)
Yeah though, I do think about it a lot, and we do play around with those ideas of marriage, it's really sweet actually (like again, when it's consensual, instead of being about like, stealing people's rights bruh).
I guess there is also the idea of a 'right hand', like a right hand man. Like, as a close secondary, who is an individual, but still thought to enact their will (like, in the other's place / the other person's will). They just happen to line up really well, either because they are just similar or the right hand wants to please them really badly lol.
Well, in that case, he's my right hand, but also my left hand, and every other part of my body, and brain even (he's very smart).
I rely on him much too much, or maybe I need to rely on him more, we are married... and this is him... hm.
Yeah but like, he helps me too much. If it were possible for something not attached to you to be a vital organ, he'd be mine (he is already mine, but you know).
I also think of the phenomenon, where people who spend a lot of time together kind of become each other / become more,,, homogenous. Which again, I guess, but,,, it's not about either of us becoming like each other, changing to be like each other, it's about both of us being ourself & different from each other, we just,,, work well together. Uh idk...
IDK about anything man...
